Shabin
Be prepared…
… to be amazed by all the beauty you can take in at almost 11k feet. Stunning!!! And the Shabin? Not shabby at all!! A very cozy and warm cabin awaits you in the middle of our incredible Colorado mountains.
The wood stove was easy to manage and cook on. I was going to bring my backpacking stove and glad I didn’t as it was not needed.
The hike in was a steady uphill, nothing too steep, and our 7-year-old daughter managed it easily. We did it in less than 2.5hrs.
I am not sure you will find a better hip camp experience - this tops our list and we have camped in some amazing places in Colorado. I almost don’t want to get the word out and keep this place a secret, LOL, but Olof deserves a top review for sharing his amazing land and Shabin.
We will return. Again and again.

Shabin
Dog friendly tranquil getaway
What a great cabin and location! The Shabin was not too hard to access (stick close to the river) and it was great to be alone in mountains with a roof over your head during these late summer storms. We spent two nights at the cabin, we spent one day exploring to the last waterfall (worth it) and the other in the loft playing games while it rained. Wildflowers were in full bloom. Bedding and cookware are provided and I think the toilet might be the best toilet I’ve ever experienced while camping - 10 out of 10 experience.

Shabin
Great experience for nature lovers
Definitely worth the hike, the view is great, the Shabin well equipped, and you are truly in the wild (we even went face to face with a moose).
I would however insist on the fact that the hike to get there is no joke, if you plan to go there I would highly recommend to pack lightly, and make one trip with all your stuff/food. I would advise inexperienced hikers to get some good gear (at least backpack) and seek for advise from the owner. Ask Olof for more information about the trail, the equipment already up there or anything really, he is a great host. But keep in mind he is also a world class athlete, him being able to do the trail barefoot does not mean you can too (learned that the hard way).
I would highly insist on starting the hike way before night (like 4pm max for the summer).
But if you are up for the challenge go for it, it is absolutely worth it. I would recommend to spend 2 nights up there if you can carry the food for it, so you have time to explore but also to rest.

Secluded paradise
My group and I loved camping at Olofs shabin. For out of state-ers the hike is pretty difficult dealing with elevation. We downloaded the gaia app and were able to follow Olofs trail which made getting lost an impossibility, but having him as a guide would have been comforting. The shabin itself is extremely well maintained and in a perfect scenic location. He has every necessity there, without feeling like glamping. You're still out there in the middle of the wilderness. The wood stove made a night rain shower cozy and the stars were unbelievable. I would be delighted to stay again, it's an unbelievable experience.
