Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
This 3+ acre property located in the Rio Cucharas Subdivision is situated just north of Lathrop State Park and just west of the town of Walsenburg. The property is surrounded by picturesque mountain ranges and boasts stunning views of the nearby Sangre de Cristos, Spanish Peaks, Silver Mountains, Sheep Mountain, Little Sheep Mountain and Greenhorn Mountain to name a few. The property is located on Cielo Azul Dr (identified as Cello Azui Dr on Google Maps) and has well-graded dirt/gravel road access. There is a dirt driveway off of Cielo Azul Dr to access the property (2WD accessible). Lathrop State Park is located only 5 minutes south of the property and offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, wind-surfing and general relaxation on the beach. The lake features a number of species of fish including rainbow trout, walleye, catfish, blue gills, tiger muskies and the regrettably names crappie. As you drive onto the property it gently slopes upwards and then flattens out for some nice camping spots and beautiful views of the surrounding area. The property is in a very quiet and secluded area where you will not be bothered by noisy neighbors or busy roads.Best view of the Spanish Peaks in all of Colorado! If you want to explore the property it is highly recommend to use protective footwear and be cautious with pets. For anyone tent camping, a durable tarp is recommended If you love cacti, then you’ll be in heaven.

Great place to camp. Pretty easy to access, only difficulty is if you come in at night it can be a little tricky to locate. Otherwise, it was great. Watch out for cactus!

I'm going to try to be really fair. This is an out-of-the-way spot that is super quiet. The area, though, tends to be very windy and I saw another post about it being so. It was SO windy the night i was there that it would have been unmanageable with a tent. My jeep doors kept slamming shut as soon as I let go of them, if I let go of something light it would have been gone. It howled all night, it was bad. Maybe 40 MPH and still going into the morning when i left. The driveway is not obvious so i missed it and the person before me must have ripped it up after a rain cause there were deep divots. My jeep could have made it but I didnt bother putting it in 4 wheel drive to continue up to the fire pit. I walked up there, though, and it's just like the pictures. I stayed near the bottom since it was just 1 night. Grant was a bit unresponsive in a timely way. He did respond but it was 2 hours later and I had already found the spot. I left him my # and asked him to call so I could find the driveway and he never did. So, there's some work to be done to make this a better experience but it is very affordable for a private spot and the view is amazing. There is a "Private Property" sign near a 10 foot wooden gate, that is the "driveway".

Overall terrible experience. Directions were unclear and the closest driveway to where the coordinates led had a fence in front and a no trespassing sign. There was a very faint trail to the right of the fence so we entered after determining there was no other possibility of where the site should be. The drive was so bad we almost got our truck stuck in 4L, and we determined if we kept going any further into the property, there would be no coming out. The host was no help either and was unresponsive when messaged. Do not stay here.

We are thankful to have a spot available when we were in need. It was challenging to find in the dark, and through the night the neighbors(?) or someone out there made us pretty uncomfortable.

Site was very private and has an amazing fireplace. Unfortunately this site is not pet friendly for tent campers. There are small cacti all around the even bordering the fireplace. Great place if you're willing to wear shoes, but we did not feel it was safe to have our dog wandering around
