ARTAX Campsite – Black Hills and Badlands Views, Epic Sunrises and Sunsets, Tent and RV Friendly ARTAX is our tent and RV camping site, located beside the soon-to-be BADLANDS BUNKHOUSE near the front of the property, just past our garage building. This site is perfect for guests who enjoy a simple, peaceful camping experience with wide-open views of the Badlands, the Black Hills and incredible sunrise and sunset skies. *The Site - Pitch a tent or pull in with your RV, camper van, bus or overland rig if you're looking to enjoy a more rustic stay. *Hookups + Water - • 220 power available via an extension cord from the garage building (let us know if you'd like to use it) • Potable well water spigot located just steps from the site *Amenities - Guests have access to: • Warm backpack-style solar shower • Composting toilet in the hut beside your site • Stock tank tub nearby that can be filled with fresh well water to cool off *Explore the Land - Guests are welcome to walk the designated outdoor land and trails south of the home. Please stay within any fences or gates, as neighboring property begins beyond them. *Good to Know - We ask guests to be self-contained, pack out all waste and help us leave no trace, so this land stays beautiful. Cozy BADLANDS BUNKHOUSE with sunrise, sunset and starry skies—a peaceful South Dakota retreat, with unobstructed views of the Badlands and Black Hills. Experience the beauty of the Badlands and Black Hills from the comfort of the BADLANDS BUNKHOUSE, a cozy 12’ x 14’ insulated cabin with a basic tiny kitchen, stovetop and sink. Perfect for a peaceful getaway, this spot offers stunning sunrises, glowing sunsets and incredible stargazing under wide-open South Dakota skies. The BADLANDS BUNKHOUSE sits near the front of the property, just past the garage building, and provides easy access to designated trails and open land south of the home (please stay within fences and gates). Guests have access to a warm backpack-style shower and composting toilet in the hut beside the BUNKHOUSE. A stock tank near the water spigot can be filled if you'd like to cool off. This is an ideal retreat for those who want a comfortable, nature-focused stay with epic views, quiet nights and a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. Great spot with super nice hosts! Lots of amenities to offer - views were gorgeous, and it was very peaceful. Beware of the gravel roads (as the host points out) make sure your car can handle them:)

The property was gorgeous! Grasslands as far as the eye can see. Long dirt road to get there but easy access once you arrive. Was welcome upon arrive and thoroughly enjoyed staying here!

Wonderfully remote, quiet place. Excellent for star gazing. The location is on a long dusty gravel road (15-20 min at least). Not too far from the Badlands. Susi is very accommodating with all kinds of personal touches. Excellent communication. Composting toilet was fine, water on site.

BADLANDS BUNKHOUSE
My friend and I stopped here for a night while visiting Badlands. The views were phenomenal from the campground and check in couldn’t have been smoother. The guests were lovely and even shared some cheese sticks with us! We went to bed with a beautiful sunset and awoke to a field full of prairie dogs. I will definitely stop in again if visiting the area in the future. The hosts are renovating so I can only imagine what improvements would be made to an awesome stay already.

Susi was a great host; she was very hospitable and sweet. I felt incredibly safe camping on her site and the sunset was beautiful. It’s very remote, safe, quiet, and the perfect spot for a little getaway. The wildlife at dusk was noticeable and the birds chirping as the sun set was just what I needed to hear. I would definitely recommend camping here!

Susi was very interactive and the communication was great. We were able to try out the fresh greens from her garden plus fresh eggs. Meeting all the animals were great but what was best part for us was learning about Susi and her husbands lifw story. Place was kept up amazing. What a place.

The hosts went above and beyond to help us have a delightful stay!! When we arrived, the hosts had a welcome gift for us and invited us to pick our own salad, which was uniquely delicious! We were the only campers in the pasture, so they offered us to upgrade to MORLA, which had a hammock, cool stock tank for tired feet, picnic table, lovely composting outhouse, and solar powered lights. It was very thoughtfully arranged! We didn’t choose to stay in the A-frame, but we really appreciated the site. FALCOR would be more private but a bit rougher with less of interest for kids. This is a beautiful high plains pasture setting with rolling hills and mowed paths for walking. We enjoyed communing with the domestic animals from goats to Guinea fowl and saw some wildlife, also. The nitty gritty: Expect no cell coverage and pay close attention to the directions. I should have put my phone on airplane so it wouldn’t use up battery life searching for signal. High winds and sudden storms are not unusual out here, but things dry quickly. Bugs were after us during part of the evening, but they calmed down after dusk.

Upon arrival we were greeted with homemade gifts and the opportunity to cut our own salads from Dan and Susi’s garden. We were also shown their many animals they keep on the farm! Really great hosts and the property is beautiful. Would stay again

We had a great stay with Dan and Susi at Falcor! They had a kiddie pool filled and waiting for us when we got there for my kiddos. They also invited us to have dinner with them and showed us around their garden and we met the animals. We also got to meet their sweet pups and we purchased a book about Makai that Susi is the author of. We really enjoyed their kombucha and had fresh eggs for breakfast. They provided 6 gallons of potable water in a jug and we had a toilet available on the site. Falcor does not have a formal picnic table but did have pallets to prepare food on. Also, remember to bring wood when there isn’t a fire ban. We were woken up several times by thunder but that’s the season and being in the plains and cell reception is very very spotty but it’s nice to disconnect. We would definitely stay here time and time again. Susi and Dan are great hosts and we really enjoyed our stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Suzy and Dan’s. We spent the night in the A Frame, which is cozy and well equipped. Their land is beautiful and they were amazing host. We even had the chance to enjoyed a dinner made with their fresh eggs and vegetables. Thank you so much for your hospitality !

Absolutely loved this camping spot! Susi went above and beyond multiple times on our one night stay. We arrived amidst a pretty bad storm and she camp out in the rain to meet us and guide us to our spot. We were supposed to be in our tent but the winds were so bad that she moved us into her A-frame structure, which saved us from a rough night of lightning, hail, and storm winds. The campsites were all very well taken care of, and the lean-to structures are a unique touch that make cooking a lot easier in bad weather. I would absolutely recommend this stay to anyone. Despite the weather we had a wonderful time.

Susi's camp was a much needed get away after being stir crazy thus late winter. The cabin was cozy and had all me and my 2 dogs needed for a night's escape. Views were gorgeous and hospitality was lovely. Guest tip: try the booth! So good. Thank you Susi 💛

If you are looking for wide-open, 360-degree prairie views and big skies, this is the place to be! I had missed the note about arriving before 4 pm, so my reservation got cancelled unexpectedly while I was on my way, which was a bit of a shock. After contacting Susi directly, she was very accommodating and let me stay anyway. Thank you!! This is definitely something to be aware of and to keep in mind when making a reservation, out of respect for the host. The campsite was peaceful and super quiet, and in the morning, I got a tour of the vegetable garden and the animals. Susi and Dan, thank you for a wonderful stay!

I had a great stay. I like how friendly the hosts were and that they showed us their lovely animals. The campsite was set up nicely and there were a lot of stars at night. It was also fun to walk around the property and see all of the other campsites as they were all unique.
