New Sky’s bones are those of an old settler’s homestead in the San Luis Valley that dates back to the early 1900’s. Nestled up against the Rio Grande National Forest, it is a high mountain desert oasis that holds the original dance hall of the county and a whole lot of history. We are currently fixing up what is already on the property for an eco-experiential retreat as well as a space for like minded artists to take refuge and create magic on the land. We currently have our workshop and studio space up and running as well as the first of several livable structures completed - an 100 year old rehabbed miners cabin using Hempcrete and other natural materials. We also have begun hosting our first artist/maker residents who are using the shop space and land to bring their own creations to life. Over time, we have dreams of permaculture farming, eco building workshops, community collaboration, and the ability to host gatherings – however, we are committed to taking it all one step at a time and allowing only what is meant to be to unfold. For now it is simply our home, a maker space for art and experimental eco building, a gathering spot for friends and a quiet Hipcamp spot. Our ranch is an 100+ year old homestead and maker-space that we are slowly rehabilitating using permaculture practices, eco-building techniques, and lots of creative love. Located on 100+ acres of Southwestern Colorado high mountain desert terrain, staying in the Shady Grove Tent will provide you a safe and cozy retreat as you do whatever it is you came here to do. Learn about our land project, meet one of our on-site artist/maker residents, explore the countless natural wonders in the area, give yourself a creative retreat, or simply kick back and relax! There is truly no such thing as a bad time at New Sky. And each month will provide a different unique experience - blooming cactuses, Milky Way skies, crisp Sand Dune views, daily double rainbows, and native wildlife are all seasonal sights depending on the month you choose to stay with us. We can't wait to host you and share this little slice of heaven!

Shady Grove Tent @ New Sky Ranch

All paths and locales were beautifully lit with Solar Lanterns, making night navigation simple. The tent was spacious, and fully equipped with all the essentials, including sufficient bedding for a cold evening, a storage chest, two portable meditations seats, two camp chairs, a workbench, a campstove, a wash station with soap and water, two towels, and all the utensils necessary for camp breakfast lunch or dinner. The outhouse was clean, simple, and well constructed. The site campfire ring was idealistically nestled in a welcoming grove of weathered but sturdy trees and featured a great assortment of seating options, large variety of grand scale cooking accessories, and a buffet style prep/cleanup station.

Nature paradise & amazing hosts!

This is one of my favorite camping spots I've ever visited. The tent site is tucked against a gently sloping hill with awe inspiring views of the valley & foothills. Great for solitude or if you want to hang out with two awesome people, the hosts, Gigi & Victor. I definitely plan on visiting again, 10/10 enthusiastically recommend.

New Sky Ranch is an absolute gem. Rustic and somewhat remote, just peaceful and beautiful high desert. Owners have created a really cool space for guests to relax and enjoy the peace and almost complete silence.

My family and I stayed at New Sky Ranch, passing through (found via HipCamp). New Sky was incredible. the hospitality of Gigi and Victor were second to none. Such an amazing property... and at night. the view of the Milky Way is breath taking.
