Terrific! The spot is 10 minutes from Durango and far enough from the owners home that it felt private. And there are endless acres of forest for the dogs to explore. We had no problem accessing the site in our rwd Ford Transit. Verizon signal was adequate. Tree coverage made starlink useless.

Beautiful spot in the hills above Durango! Directions were clear, site was level, firepit and utilities all as advertised. We drove a 2 WD Ram Class B and had no issues accessing. Will stay here again when we are in Durango next. :)

Very convenient from Durango, and along a great route to Bayfield. Gravel road with switchbacks - fine with a 21' camper van, just take it slow.
Wooded lot. Fairly private RV pad, past the house. Friendly resident dogs. Elect and water at site, dump access near house.

Great spot not far from town. Beautiful views! Note that the wifi isn't very strong at the site, if you're planning on working from there. Would definitely stay again!

Michael's property was amazing.
Quiet, in the woods, on top of a big hill, yet fairly close to town with a great view of the surrounding hills.
He was very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Durango.

Beautiful and very private campsite. My husband declared this the best place we’ve ever camped. As others mentioned, it is about 1 mile up a gravel driveway to reach the house and the campsite. We tow a 5000 pound two axle trailer, and didn’t have any issues going up or down.We used the water and electric hook ups, which worked great. I think there was sewer on site, but it didn’t appear to be in the same area as the others. Host was very communicative and very much left us to ourselves. It was wonderful to be so close to Durango and not in a large RV campsite.

Nice spot. Advertised as close to Durango, although you’d never know it while you’re there. It’s quiet and feels remote. We had a nice stay and used it as a basecamp to hike near Silverton.

Loved the solitude and the view. Loved being surrounded by pine trees — not enormous RVs! Hook-ups worked well. We had a fire in the fire pit in the morning (night was windy).

Amazing spot to stay and explore the Durango area!!
The spot is close to the house but as others said, you’ll be facing out towards nothing but forest and valley views for 180*+ on the other side. There is an unmapped trail system connected to the spot, it is pretty steep down into the valley and back but was a lot of fun, super private and our corgi actually handled it fine. Easy drive into Durango to hang out for the day, and you’re close to lots more to do!
First time renting and driving a 25ft class C didn’t give me any issues. The dirt road leading to the property has at least one switch back that might be tougher for larger vehicles or trailers not sure. Michael and Shannon were easy to reach for questions and friendly.
Great spot, we would stop again on our way through town!

Great place to stay in Durango with awesome host! I arrived late and Michael met me as soon as I pulled up to make sure I had everything I needed. Campsite is just down hill from house but no issue with privacy. Site is surrounded by woods with beautiful views. Highly recommend and will definitely stay here whenever I am in the Durango area!

Beautiful location … 15 min from downtown. It has a very long several mile long gravel road to get to and a rather steep drop off to the actual RV spot. Had a tough time pulling out even with turbo. Owners very friendly and accomidating.

Michael is a wonderful and helpful host. The site is beautiful. The driveway to get there is not for the faint hearted. We recommend you come in the daytime to safely make it up. It is worth all the effort.

We stayed at Michael’s for 3 nights and it was fabulous. Easy to get to Durango and local hikes and the camp spot was very peaceful with hikes right on your doorstep, so if you wanted to chill at camp for the day, it was the perfect location. The views were fabulous as were the stars at night.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at Bear Springs. The location was great for exploring Durango and nearby trails. Michael was a great host and the property had us feeling like we were on our own land. It was beautiful, spacious, and much more private than a campground. We pulled our 23 foot, 5500 pound camper with a ram 1500 and had no issues. While camping pad is near the house, we still felt as though we had our own private site. We will be back if we are in the area and whole heartedly recommend Bear Springs!

You won’t find a better spot or a nicer host! We loved Bear Springs. You can hike right from the campsite, and the views are unbeatable. It’s super quiet out there even though you’re not too far from the heart of Durango. In addition, Mike was truly awesome. Our van had a hard time pulling our camper up the dirt road to the site, and Mike came and hitched the camper to his truck, pulling it up and backing it into the site. And he hooked it up on our way out, too, just to make sure we didn’t have any more trouble. He went above and beyond—super nice guy. Don’t think twice about booking this place. You won’t regret it! Our favorite hipcamp to date.

This is a really great spot for a center of operations for recreational and other activities in Durango. It’s about 10 miles from Downtown, but the spot is peaceful and remote. It’s a single site, which is situated below the host’s home, and about 75 yds or so from the house, on a large tract of wooded property. We did a little hiking around the trails which are accessible from the site, and feels very remote. Good star gazing on Monday night. The hosts are extremely accommodating, but not at all invasive. No RV Park neighbors! No noise (other than maybe my family), firewood is supplied. Nice, flat pad with plenty of room to set up tables and chairs just outside of the camper. The weather was perfect, nights were really cool - low 50s, maybe high 40’s - with no need to run the RV AC, which is too loud anyway.
Michael was really easy to work with in that we tried twice to come up in the early spring, but weather put a damper on both trips, and we had no problem canceling the reservations. This time we made it !
We will definitely look at returning to this site in the near future.

We had an awesome time at Bear Springs. Mike was a great host. Very knowledgeable about the area and willing to help. While the spot is close to his (very beautiful) home, once set up our view was to his many acres of forest and felt secluded. Great views, close to everything and a bit cooler up there! Would definitely recommend.

I loved camping on Michael’s land. The space was away from the main house and provided privacy. Michael greeted me upon arrival and instructions with Google Maps were clear. The campsite was clean and welcoming, with water and electricity available. Easy 10min drive to downtown Durango, while still in nature. I am a solo female camper and felt safe for 2 nights there.
