This special land is part of a multi-parcel wildlife corridor, helping to provide valuable habitat between the state parks, along the creek and river. Out your doorstep, you'll find more than 15-miles of private, groomed, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails and have an opportunity to reconnect with nature. Our solar-powered farmhouse overlooks the mountains and an organic orchard and garden, with two queen bedrooms lined with hand-milled sugar pine from the land, high speed wifi, waterfalls, and private network of trails to hike or bike. Walk to refreshing creek swimming hole or private Yuba river swimming access available at certain times. Included in your stay is seasonal organic produce to gather out your doorstep in our family's organic garden and hammocks to relax in under the fruit trees, creek and river. Relax and rejuvenate in nature. The two bedrooms downstairs have queen beds handcrafted of sugar pine milled from downed trees from the land and are fitted with organic sheets. Downstairs has a bathroom with tub and shower, living room with mid-century furniture, views of the orchard and a tv for cozy movie nights. Upstairs is a fully-stocked kitchen with gas stove, oven, and all chef's amenities, foldout queen sleeper, bathroom with shower and outdoor table for a sunset dinner. Cool mountain air refreshes your nights or feel the luxury of air conditioning on a hot summer afternoon. After a relaxing day in the mountains, perhaps star gaze from the patio or orchard. To get to the sandy beach and creek spot, called Barkhouse Beach, take an easy stroll through the forest. The nearby Barkhouse, close to the creek, is a reconstruction of a typical Maidu Indian dwelling. Walk inside to experience the traditional history of this land. Or cool off in the Yuba River at the South Yuba River State Park, just a 5-minute drive from the farmhouse. We are speechless! This property was above and beyond what we expected. You have private access to acres and acres of land, including a private stream and private section of the yuba River. It was absolutely peaceful and divine. We ate delicious fruit and veggies from the garden. We are already talking about coming back again!

I’ve been on Hipcamp for over 5 years and this is the best of the best on this app. The river, creeks, garden, house — everything was perfect. I’d highly recommend to anyone!

The garden house was lovely as was the property! The hiking trails right out the back door were so well maintained and a really magical experience. The bedrooms were comfy, and the internet, heat, and electricity worked well. The kitchen was a bit outdated and bare bones, but the grill was great. Would definitely want to come back and check out some of the other cabins on the property, everything was so beautiful. Also, the host, Alicia, was very responsive and helpful!

We spent a lovely weekend at Alicia’s organic farmhouse, mountain biking in the Nevada City area and on the property’s own well-designed trails, floating on the Yuba nearby, and watching the Perseids meteor shower while cooking some great group dinners. Picking our own fruits and vegetables straight from the garden was such a treat! One of the best Hipcamps around.

Our stay exceeded our expectations in every way. The river was heaven on earth. We made delicious meals featuring fresh fruits and veggies from the garden—blackberry crisp and tomato basil pasta, yum! The family’s stewardship of this land is off the charts. Forest Homestead at Yuba Retreat
What a wonderful house! Very spacious, very clean, very beautiful. The kitchen so well, equipped, plenty of dishes, everything you could need to feed a large group. It was a perfect place for our family reunion. Gorgeous hiking at various levels of difficulty, Beautiful swimming holes in the creek, amazing vistas. Couldn’t have asked for a better place!

Yuba River Farmhouse
We absolutely loved our stay at the organic farmhouse! We were 4 adults and 2 toddlers and the space accommodated us well. The babies loved picking strawberries in the garden and munching on fresh peas. It was a 20 minute hike down to the swimming hole with the kids in hiking packs and they loved playing on the grass and rocks near the water (with major supervision, of course!) Alicia was so warm, welcoming, and even offered to help us out by washing a few items after our son got sick in the car on the windy road in. We were so touched by her generosity throughout our stay and we can’t wait to return! Thank you, Alicia!

Forest Homestead at Yuba Retreat
This is just such a lovely spot, thankful for the nice weather in October too. I visited with my partner and dog and we had a great time biking and hiking on the trails, grilling and enjoying the canyon view for meals, playing a ton of ping pong, practicing frisbee golf throws, and squirrel watching/chasing in the dog yard. Also made it to the Yuba River which was so nice to basically have to ourselves midweek in the fall. It’s a perfect match of being a place to easily relax and also having so much to do!

Forest Homestead at Yuba Retreat
Just a short drive from historic, downtown Nevada City, on the shores of the scenic Yuba River, Yuba River Retreat is perfectly situated for relaxation or adventure. Peaceful, surreal, and astonishingly beautiful describes our stay at Yuba River Retreat. Our kind host, Alicia, warmly welcomed my husband and I upon our arrival, and gifted us with a thoughtful arrangement of fragrant flowers from her garden. Thank you! Alicia then ensured we had everything we needed to be comfortable for our stay at the Farmhouse. During our short sojourn at Yuba River Retreat, we lodged in a clean, spacious home on the property. The Farmhouse, as it’s known, was nicely furnished with a modern rustic aesthetic. Equipped with a full kitchen, generous bathrooms, comfortable beds, and even Wi-Fi, this home had everything my husband and I could possibly need. A thriving garden of fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs greets you just out the front door of this lodging, and Alicia encouraged us to pick any ripe fare. It was a pure joy to make meals from the veggies we harvested. The next morning, after a quiet, restorative rest, my husband and I were ready to explore the grounds of YRR. This place is, truly, beyond words. With over 100 pristine acres of land, Yuba River Retreat feels like its own universe-- or, at the very least, its own state park. There are exceptionally well-maintained hiking/MTB trails, gorgeous, panoramic river views, and amazing swimming holes.

An amazing opportunity to have a private oasis next to Rock Creek. We spent a lovely day there and then enjoyed the fruits and vegetables from the organic farm for meals. We drove to Bark House Beach because had a 4 month old. The drive is not easy coming back with a front wheel drive car. But we made it!

This property is really a treasure! It’s rare you find something so beautiful and remote yet close to civilization. The trails are meticulous and well marked. The river is gorgeous and has everything you need to relax. Picnic tables, chairs, river floats, etc… Picking veggies from the garden is a nice touch along with a super comfortable house. Would definitely come again and plan to rent the larger house on property one day also! Really great find, hosts were awesome.

The Organic Farmhouse far exceeded our expectations! We had seen the photos and read the reviews but neither quite capture how special this place really is. The hosts are friendly helpful and incredibly responsive! Many thanks to them for opening their home up to us for this experience! The farmhouse is large and well equipped. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room with a TV (which we did not use during our stay), a collection of board games, fully equipped kitchen, a wonderful Webber grill which we used frequently and of course the organic farm! The house is really well furnished with high quality furniture, appliances and amenities (like Turkish beach towels, Staub cast iron pots, crate and barrel dinnerware, excellent AC, to name a few) with a particular focus on sustainability! The farm! What a dream! We arrived during a particularly productive period allowing us to make dinners, almost solely from the vegetables we picked on the farm. A few highlights included assortment of tomatoes, lettuces, kale, chard, eggplants, peppers, onions, squashes, basil (OH THE BASIL, it was divine!!!), blackberries (ripened to perfection by the sun), and so much more. This is all to say, we LOVED our stay here and cannot wait to return. Thank you Alicia, Michael and Scott for your hospitality and for opening your beautiful home to us!

Absolutely loved our weekend here getting to hang out with my family next to the lovely garden. We really enjoyed making some top notch meals with the freshly harvested produce and hanging out by the creek. The farmhouse is quite spacious with comfy beds, couches, and a really well equipped kitchen. The trails on the property are SO impressive - I hear they are building more every year. I'm an intermediate mountain biker and had a blast on them. The nutmeg trail is not to be missed! Can't wait to return :)

The property was incredible. The overlooks, trails, river, waterfalls - everything - stunning! The owner was helpful, welcoming and thorough. The organic farm felt like home. We enjoyed every part of our trip and will be back in May for a full week. Cannot recommend enough.

Sublimely beautiful. We hiked the trails two days in a row and could not stop marveling at all the shades of green. The moss and lichen down by the creek are simply stunning, and I have never seen so many madrones and manzanitas, with their beautifully colored bark, in one place. Don't miss the gorgeous mossy rocks all along the Nutmeg Trail to the waterfall: easy flat trail that my 7 and 11 year olds navigated with ease. We didn't spend as much time at the Barkhouse Beach but could see this being divine in the summer time when it's warm enough to jump in the water. Our kids spent a lot of time lounging in the garden, playing with the two cats, and munching on the cherry tomatoes and raspberries in the garden. As a gardener myself, I loved seeing the diversity of foods grown and the amazing number of pollinators buzzing around. Even in late November, there was a huge amount of variety to harvest. It was an easy 15 minute drive to downtown Nevada City for lunch and dinner, but next time we would bring more provisions to cook and grill on site. The interior of the farmhouse was cozy at night. We had a relaxing movie night under the warm blankets provided. We can't wait to come back to see the manzanitas in bloom! Huge gratitude to Alicia and Mike for sharing this piece of paradise with others.

A Delightful Forest Retreat

The Organic Farmhouse was a truly enjoyable place to visit! My family and I loved exploring the beautiful and well maintained hiking trails, and snacking from the garden on our return. The creek pools are relaxing and lovely places to sketch or get lost in a book. Surrounded by the sounds of water and birds and the wind through the forest, it could sometimes feel as though we were miles from anywhere, but we were a convenient driving distance to town, and a top-notch grocery store. Highly recommend unwinding here!

Oh man, what can I say - “water, land, (nature in general!) meets luxury” - could not be more true. Felt the abundance of the farm at every meal. kids asked to harvest, and harvey and harvest again! Pristine waters were incredibly healing, and the dirt roads and 4wd added to the adventure. Feels like a secret, that I don’t want to share!!! Yes it’s that special! Cabin was perfect for our family of 5. Appreciated seeing a summer camp and other visitors in the garden. Alicia was a great host, communicative and helpful, especially during the fires (20+ miles away) that broke out during our stay. We got to enjoy our last full day but got smoked out early on our last day. the organic farmhouse let us really enjoy and take in the beauty of nisamen land. Booking our spring getaway now.

We weren't sure what the crowds or COVID rates would be like this summer when we were booking our vacation so this seemed like an ideal option. The property is very secluded and has private water access, hiking trails etc. We picked fresh fruits and vegetables for our meals every day. The layout of the house was perfect with kids because the sleeping area was on a different level from where we hung out in the evenings after they went to bed.

Beautiful setting, our group had a great time lazing by the private creek, swimming in the Yuba river, and hiking the trails around the property, so many activities to choose from. Organic garden was a wonderful bonus with fresh berries and greens. Will definitely come back. Recommend a car with clearance for the short drive to the Yuba river.
