Was a wonderful and relaxing stay. The place had sheets, pillows, a mini fridge, etc. which was super convenient. Beautiful area and all around 10/10 stay! Our dog loved it.

I had such a wonderful stay at California Woods by the Sea – Ashram. From the moment I arrived, I felt surrounded by peace and quiet—the tall trees and natural setting make it feel like a true retreat. At the same time, it’s so convenient to get to, which makes it easy to slip away without much effort.
The host was fantastic—very communicative, helpful, and welcoming. The site itself was neat, clean, and thoughtfully set up. The beds were surprisingly comfy, and I really appreciated the basic coffee setup in the morning. Having a flush toilet and internet on-site were such great perks that made the stay even more comfortable, while still keeping the simple, outdoorsy vibe. The outdoor shower was another highlight—refreshing and such a unique experience with the trees all around.
Overall, it was the perfect mix of nature, comfort, and convenience. I left feeling relaxed and refreshed, and I’m already looking forward to coming back.

We had a wonderful time! The cabin is cute and cozy with a very comfy bed. The outdoor shower is fantastic- I wish I had one just like it at home.

Perfect cabin for a weekend adventure! Stayed here and went on a wonderful bike ride in the area. Got great tips from the hosts on where to go nearby and best route for our bike ride. Cabin was very cozy and the outdoor shower was super fun.

This little gem was actually the perfect getaway for us including my 2 dogs. The cellular reception was abysmal and the WiFi was spotty which was exactly what we needed. The cabin is tucked into the woods on the same property as the owners but still felt secluded. Based off other reviews, I anticipated that we needed to bring our own cooking gear as we didn’t want to frequently leave the property. Towels, shampoo/conditioner was provided. Nicole, our host, was receptive to our needs and even had an electric blanket set up for the bed. I was super cozy without turning on the space heater (seeing as my dogs are northern breeds, they love the colder atmosphere). What I really loved was the outdoor shower and its piping HOT water and it felt private. In addition, the redwood trees that surround the cabin was magic and my dogs enjoyed sniffing everywhere - honestly the biggest plus and the main reason we booked.
A couple things to consider if you want to book here is to bring whatever you think you need in order to feel at home. I’m a notorious over packer and I still would have brought other stuff. Regardless, I would stay here again!

I loved absolutely everything about this little gem in the woods! Nicole’s exceptional communication and very well detailed directions were a perfect start to my solo retreat. Came up with my little dog and enjoyed exploring the beautiful beaches, forests, and trails in the area. Ideally located with easy access to anywhere you’d want to go but I enjoyed just hanging out in the cabin most of the weekend. The outdoor shower was a delightful bonus and I felt both perfectly isolated and safe the entire time.
Nicole was a perfect host and was kind enough to offer to interrupt her children’s dance party if the music interfered with my peace - which it did not, I didn’t hear a thing :)
I loved feeling so small amongst the trees and waking up every morning to the most peaceful forest sounds. The string lights outside gave the place a lovely ambiance to wind down in the evenings as well. It’s a truly magical little place and I will definitely be back!

We loved our two nights at this adorable cabin. Waking up (and outdoor showering) amongst redwoods was super peaceful. The cabin itself is quite spacious, very clean, and has everything you need. Nicole was a super responsive host and provided us a space heater and heated blanket. Even though it got around freezing temp at night, all we really needed was the space heater to stay warm (the cabin is really well made and well insulated). The internet (which is such an impressive bonus) cut in and out a bit but when it was it worked it was super fast. The cabin is a short drive to highway 1 and also not far from Anderson Valley, so we had easy access to Mendocino, Fort Bragg, adjacent hikes and wineries. Dog friendly was a huge plus.

We stayed in the cabin for two days and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The cabin is nestled in the woods, very quiet and peaceful. It was very warm and cozy, perfect for relaxation. I especially loved the small decorative lights around the cabin, which made the atmosphere very romantic. The outdoor shower is the cherry on top—it’s very interesting! The location is also great, it's close to the coast.
Nicole was incredibly kind and helpful. I accidentally left my favorite bracelet in the cabin, and she found it and kindly mailed it back to me. I highly recommend this cabin to my friends and look forward to returning in the future.

Nicole’s cabin is a piece of heaven! Great location, close enough to the coast and state parks while hidden away and peaceful. The cabin is cozy, quaint and clean. We brought camping cooking gear and a cooler and were set for two days in the redwoods, under the stars. The outdoor shower is the cherry on top…. Absolutely amazing. 100% recommend and will be back

I absolutely loved this space. Being in the middle of all the redwoods was amazing and peaceful. The outdoor shower was the best. I felt super vulnerable but it was so nice and warm. Great area to explore. A lot of sightseeing to do. I love the coast and The Woods by the Sea Ashram.

Pretty great two night stay. Cozy little rustic cabin set into a quiet, serene redwood forest. Cabin is close to the main house but it feels private and peaceful. Wood burning stove and outdoor shower in the woods are great touches. Easy drive to downtown Mendocino and gorgeous beaches.

I needed a few days of solitude and Nicole‘s cabin was perfect. I felt safe being on a solo trip with just me and my dog. The accommodations were beautiful. It gets pretty chilly but the fireplace and super warm bedding helped to keep nice and toasty, a mini portable heater fan was also available. The outdoor shower was great, I was a bit skeptical at first because it was mostly chilly during my stay but the hot water made the experience great, shampoo, soap and fresh towels included. Love the little modern comforts here and there: mini fridge, water kettle, French press, assortment of loose leaf teas/coffee, cute little mugs. My favorite part was having the windows wide open to the forest while enjoying a meal and watching the outside hanging lights turn on at night. Overall a great stay, and would absolutely recommend!

My partner and I adored this cabin! We spent so long looking for something that was simple and didn’t have too many bells and whistles, and this cabin was the perfect find. We are both trans men, and felt extremely welcomed by Nicole and her family. The cabin is extremely well-built, and keeps out the cold. The blankets provided on the bed were wonderful to keep warm. We felt so cared for when we first got into the cabin to find that there was a heater that had been left on to warm up the space for us. The woods stove is also so charming and lovely, we used it the whole duration of our stay. Nicole is also very respectful of privacy, even when we requested new towels. We never felt intruded upon, and always respected throughout the duration of our stay. Additionally, the directions provided were extremely helpful and detailed, making the cabin easy for us to find. If you’re looking for simplicity, peace, and a welcoming, warm feeling, this is the place to go 💙🌲💚

The cabin was so amazing! I loved the outdoor shower and literally wanted to live in it haha also the wood burning stove inside kept us super cozy even though it was pretty cold outside. With the bed being super comfy and stocked with warm blankets we slept very well. The area is a beautiful spot tucked back into the big redwood trees. We would definitely love to come back and stay again!

We had such a great time at Woods by the Sea Ashram! It was dog-friendly with wifi (I was able to work a full workday!), while the outdoor shower and wood-burning stove were standout features.
We loved the setting—a charming little pathway through the redwoods leads around the main house to the more secluded cabin. The kitchen has a mini fridge, French press, two mugs, and a kettle—otherwise, we brought our own camp stove and cooking utensils and had some nice meals on the deck. It was also easy enough to pack out our own trash.
Linens, warm blankets, towels are provided, as are shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for the incredible outdoor shower, which is right out the back door. No cold walks outside to get to it!
Even though we felt very tucked away in the redwoods, Mendocino and Fort Bragg are only 20-30 minutes up Highway 1. We hiked down to the property's creek, did the Skunk Train in town, and had a lovely 3-day stay.

Staying at Nicole's cabin is a dream! The wood-burning stove makes the cabin all cozy & warm, the woods around it are lovely to explore, and the outdoor shower is a pleasure. Nicole is a very responsive, very friendly host, who was very helpful when we needed it but would otherwise give us our space to enjoy our stay. The cabin's location is close enough to Mendocino & the surrounding areas to make planning your day easy, and the directions to find the cabin are simple. I would recommend this place to a friend.

We loved Nicole’s cabin in the woods. It had everything we needed in a cabin. Wood burning stove is amazing, easy to toast bread or make basic food if you bring some cooking equipment. Outdoor shower is really magical. Even small details like coffee cups, warm bed sheets were really well thought through. We would definitely come back.

The cabin was exactly as described: a clean, private location in Albion within a reasonable driving distance from Mendocino. I enjoyed the thoughtful layout of the location, with string lights strewn across the property which set a nice ambiance in the evening. Outdoor shower worked a lot better than I thought it would.

My husband and I wanted to have a little private Mendocino getaway and this small cabin was a great way to relax and get out of the city lights! My favorite touch was the redwood outdoor shower, haven't stopped talking about it and how cool and zen it was to shower all while looking at the trees!

I almost don't want to share how awesome this place is, but the pictures don't do it justice. It's a place that has had a ton of love put into it. My wife and I had a magical anniversary weekend there.

Nicole's cabin was so cozy and the perfect getaway for the weekend. It was easy to find and she was very responsive to all our questions. The fireplace and outdoor shower with hot water were the highlights! For the price, wish a few more items were included like firewood, trash takeout, and basic kitchen utensils. We brought everything we needed for the weekend and it was a great time!

Overall we had a great time here. The host was very responsive and the directions to find it were spot on. Everything in the cabin was as described. Our only comment for future guests would be that this place is pretty bare bones like the listing says. Outdoor shower, wood stove for heating... nicer places can be had in town for cheaper, but dont have the wonderful vibes in the woods that this place does.
