***Read carefully before you request to book this site. This is dry camping…further than you think. There are no services, no water, no trash pickup, no toilet, no EV charging and no cell service. Just beauty…lots of it, so plan carefully. Higher clearance vehicles and pretty good driving skills are recommended, like SUV or 4WD. *** If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. Completely removed from civilization surrounded by barren land that is alive with a subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, Spring wildflowers burst across the landscape. Cave paintings of Chumash Indians at Painted Rock remind us of those who lived before us. Here is where the deer and the antelope can still play. The Pergola is surrounded by the Carrizo Plains National Monument, and truly a get away from it all camping experience. This sole site has a picnic table and shade pergola and fire ring. Please don’t break off bushes for your fire, and don’t leave your campfire unattended. Put it out. Campfires are not allowed during Red Flag warnings or high wind events. This is a PACK IT IN/PACK IT OUT site. Please take your trash and your poop with you. You'll find vault toilets at Traver Ranch, Soda Lake Overlook and the Visitors Center if you you aren't self contained. There is no water, and no services here, so you will need to be well supplied and be sure to download your reservation to your phone for proof. Cell service is not reliable at the site, and you may find people camping or picnicking at your site that you may have to politely ask to bump. You'll definitely want to do some exploring at Painted Rock, Caliente Ridge, and the Soda Lake boardwalk. Keep an eye out for the Elk, they're a majestic sight! Be sure to check out the visitors center. That's it. You and the coyotes on your own private moon.***Read carefully before you request to book this site. This is dry camping…further than you think.
