This is a beautiful 2.8 acre secluded group campsite with a geodesic dome, just minutes away from the ocean, giant redwood forests, and the beautiful Smith River. Surfing, paddling, hiking, biking, ocean or river activities abound. Surrounded by pastures, with frequent herds of elk roaming nearby and sometimes through the campsite itself. This is a primitive campsite. It is a grassy area to park your campervan or set up your tent. While work is going into the site to improve it's functionality, it is not up and running yet. we have a toilet onsite and tables where you can set up your kitchen, however there are no showers and you wil need to pack it in and out. You will certainly enjoy this nature getaway!

Get away from the summer crowds on our secluded campsite. The furnished geodesic dome sleeps 2 with pullout couch. Minutes from the ocean and local surf spots, giant Redwood forests, and the incredible, pristine Smith River. Redwood trees and forested elements on the property make for interesting exploration. Surrounded by pastures, easy access from 101 to local shopping and restaurants. You won't find a better campsite anywhere nearby. This is definitely a glamping experience. We have set the dome up to easily accommodate 2 with a pull out couch, but our family routinely uses it to sleep 4. We bring camping pads. the pull out bed is a bit firm, so it could benefit from a sleeping pad. The spot is beautiful. This is self supported camping. no internet provided but cell phone reception is good. No power onsite. There is a spigot on the edge of the property, but no running water provided. We have an outdoor kitchen with tables and a sink, but no stove. you should bring your own kitchen, sleeping bags, camp chairs, etc... please be courteous and clean up any messes and sweep before leaving.

This is a quiet area next to a KOA and easy to locate. It is fairly primitive except for a porta-potty. Setting up a tent was my option and I had the whole area to myself.

Nice Alternative to KOA

Despite being right next to KOA, we felt like we got a great view of the stars and the Persteids were peaking as well. We were 2 girls in a tent with no one else so we were naturally scared momentarily, however we felt safer as we set up. I bet this camp site is booming when they get everything set up!

Nice and quiet with a good kitchen set up. We saw a tiny baby bunny too! We were the only ones there which was really nice. It might feel different with more groups there but overall it was good!

We loved camping here! We were sharing the campsite with one other camper which made it feel all the more special. The bathroom was well maintained and though basic the amenities worked out perfectly for our stay. Stargazing her was beautiful. WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK! Thanks for having us :)

Loved the site. I enjoyed the convenience of the outdoor kitchen though it would be nice to have a tank we could fill with water. But it's just a short walk to the hose bib at the KOA. My dog and I had fun exploring the trails and finding the small cove of giant redwoods.

The camp site was great. I was headed north into Oregon and needed a place to crash for the night. Aaron was quick to book and reply with instructions which were easy and clear. I had no trouble finding the camp site. The site itself served its purpose as a primitive camp spot. It was clean and felt safe. I would stay there again if passing by.

Spent a night at the Crescent city campsite. Very peaceful, had the whole place to myself. easy access from Hwy 101. Aaron was very easy to communicate with and responsive. Barely heard a peep from the KOA campsite next-door that others have mentioned. I would recommend this site and would be happy to stay there again.

We loved camping on Aaron's land. It is adjacent to the KOA, but we weren't disturbed by any noise. It was the perfect spot to stop off the 101 and perfect for some stargazing. Would recommend staying here!

Overall the site was a good location. For the price, I would try to find something better. The “hot shower” and other amenities listed are part of the KOA that require an additional fee. Kinda shady to not include that detail. Seems expensive to park your car and sleep on the ground with basically no amenities…

Very close to Crescent City and a very nice and quiet, well maintained spot with a couple of fire pits and a wonderful dome structure which can be rented. If you don't like seeing deer going through your Campground or elk in the field next door, then this place is not for you!

Not the best for tenting. Ground is uneven and you will require a thick air mattress. Normal foamy or air pad not going to cut it.

Surf Dome Smith River
Great host, the dome is awesome. Pretty close to amenities and state parks. Temps were in the 60’s when we went and it was very comfortable day and night. We had 2 large dogs and they had plenty of space to roam, but keep in mind that tent campers may be pretty close by and there is no full fence separating the KOA so they’ll need to be well behaved dogs.

Nice little area to camp. Porta-potty was SUPER clean and well maintained which is a nice little extra while camping. The host was very responsive to questions too! Felt like a safe place to camp! Got to listen to the elk one night as well.

Easy to reach, plenty of space, felt secluded yet safe. Noise from KOA was minimal and didn’t disturb me or my pup. Cleanest portapotty I have ever used, which was a relief.

Surf Dome Smith River
We loved staying in the dome! It was nice and warm during the cool days and stayed pleasant at night. The deck is wide and spacious. Plenty of space to spread out yourselves and your gear while it dries. Great location close to the redwoods and the beach.

This was a great hipcamp experience! The space is huge and could fit many different groups without them interfering with each other. We lucked out and had the space to ourselves for most of our trip. There's plenty of shade and abundant blackberries enjoy if you hit the timing right. Water, showers, and trash are nearby and the port a potty was surprisingly clean. Great spot, easy to get out and enjoy the area, and very little noise from 101.

We brought our little travel trailer and camped in the field. Our dog came with us and loved being able to play fetch while we relaxed at the site. Saw plenty of elk as they pass through the adjoining field. It’s right behind the KOA so you get some of the noise from kids using their play area but that didn’t bother us at all. I mean, it’s basically camping in a field. There’s an outhouse that is serviced regularly. It worked for us to be able to book on short notice and the host was responsive when needed.

Peaceful and quiet glamping

Staying in the white dome was really wonderful. Secluded enough, yet having access to bathrooms, showers, laundry and a kitchen sink really helped. The stars were amazing and loved the spaciousness and light in the dome. I was worried it would be hot at night, but it cooled down quickly once nightfall happened. I definitely recommend staying here! The only confusing thing was the description mentioned something about wifi and starlink, but there was no internet. Cell phone signal worked well though.

We had the best time camping in Aaron’s land!!! This is a super special find, 3 acres all to yourself, absolutely stunning. Would be perfect for a larger group, he also put a porta potty that is regularly serviced, super clean and it was an amazing perk. Couldn’t reccomend more

Site was very spacious, private, and quiet. Thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the camp fire at night and star gazing. Also very close to the nearby Redwood parks, Crescent City, and the ocean. 100% recommend staying here if you're visiting the area.

The property is big and easy to find, being attached to the KOA campsite. The campsite has great amenities that we had no issues using, including flushing toilets, showers, a heated bathroom, laundry, and outdoor sink. The dome does a great job at shielding from the elements, however it's not weather sealed or pest sealed. Inside the dome is a couch that has a pull out bed. Be sure to bring your own bedding as there were no sheets/blankets provided. The dome has a large deck, chairs, and a hammock for lounging outside. This is still very much a camping experience, so make sure you come with the necessary equipment

This spot is going to be a 5 star spot as work is being put into the property. However if you plan to stay before the property is done be wary of the developments. Currently the field is not safe to drive on due to mud and rain. There is an open vent on top so the entire dome was cold and hard to keep heated. When we arrived there were tools, personal items and trash left behind. The host however gave us the courtesy to use the dome, since we reserved a tent spot and there was torrential downpour. The showers and utilities are back towards the front of the property and you are more in the back. Excited to see this property when completed!
