Sierra Meadows stands out as a unique glamping resort, having evolved from its origins as a golf course and RV park into a vibrant destination that celebrates nature and art. Nestled on a sprawling 1,300-acre property, this resort offers guests a chance to unwind in a serene environment while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The land has a rich history, once inhabited by the Miwok Native Americans who spent their summers in Yosemite Valley, known to them as Ahwahnee, and their winters on this very property, where they established two large villages. In the 1860s, William Crooks transformed the area into a cattle ranch, creating three expansive ponds and an intricate water diversion system to sustain his cattle through the dry California summers. Fast forward to 1991, when Alan Thomas and John Jameson opened a golf course, marking the beginning of their ambitious vision that included plans for two 18-hole courses, 600 RV spaces, and numerous homes. Today, Sierra Meadows is undergoing another transformation. Portions of the former golf course are being revitalized with a drought-tolerant mix of native wildflowers, and large-scale sculptures are being installed throughout the property.
