Very private and quiet area. Loved being able to see the stars at night. Hearing the waves crash as you cook up some bbq ribs next to the campfire. The trails to the beach area were accommodating. Would go back again in an instance! Felt like a movie.

Really clean and organized campgrounds! My partner and I actually stayed here two separate times on our roadtrip, and we’d come back again in a heart beat. Helpful hosts, really nice bathrooms and showers, and really close to some pretty cool tide pools! We loved it so much that my partner and I actually got engaged by the lighthouse at sunset! Really beautiful views around sunset when the fog clears out. I’d recommend this campsite over and over and over again!

This was a tough one for us. Some of the sites seemed to have a little breathing room but many are too close together. I’ve camped my entire life and managed to avoid a site this tight. We arrived approx 5 pm at the self checkin to find our site had been changed from the one we booked which is fine. Upon arriving at our newly assigned site however there was a truck partway in it as the person next to us had an extra vehicles parked at their site. We could open our doors of our camper van by parking directly in the middle of this rv site. Most campgrounds keep an eye on this. If someone is paying for a space no one should be using it and/or have excess vehicles that don’t fit in their own site. After a long day driving then tacking the road to get there in lower gears and wearing down our brakes, we were tired and wanted to set up camp. So the truck was eventually moved and then we plugged in to find no power at our site. All fine as things happen but in such a cramped space it was a bit much. Like anything how you’re greeted upon arrival makes a huge difference in one’s experience. The staff was gracious in finding a new site but at this point we didn’t bother unpacking and found another campground to move to the next morning.

My family and I had an amazing time! The camp hosts were friendly, attentive, and very gracious! Aurora at the Restaurant/Store was so welcoming and friendly, it felt like home! Make sure to visit Jessica in the Arts House!

Tent sites were a little small, but the campground was relatively empty, so it wasn't an issue. Check-in was simple, and the site was easy to find. Wi-Fi wasn't the best at the east tent sites, but it worked. Local food was good, as were the ocean views. The only negative I have is that the drive in is a bit ridiculous, lots of twists and turns and steep hills. If you don't have a lot of experience with driving such roads I wouldn't recommend driving in a larger travel trailer or RV.

Shelter Cove Campground was beautiful! The rv sites were nice! They have a little store for the necessities and souvenirs! With a deli and indoor and outdoor seating. Boat launching ramp, walkable shoreline with natural springs coming down the mountain side.
The camp hosts and camp manager were great, knowledge and helpful! A big must for us, was that it was dog friendly, but had strict leash rules, that we appreciate.
Would definitely recommend and will be coming again!

My only regret is not stay more than one night. This is a very unique camp ground and we loved the time we spent there. On our way out we sampled the mountain bike trails which were also noteworthy. We will be coming back for a longer stay in the future.

This is a beautiful site right on the coast. The sunsets over the ocean are amazing. Restrooms and showers very clean. Camp host friendly and helpful. Deli and shop great with lots of take away options. Wonderful wildlife on the beach and in the sea. Great restaurant just up the road. We loved it here.

Campground was well kept in the hosts were very helpful, we were there in the off-season so not much to do, we thought we’d be able to sit at the beach, but the waters were way too rough and it was extremely windy. The only reason we would not be back to this campground is because of the tight windy 24 miles of Mountain roads to get there we were traveling in a 19 foot trailer our breaks overheated and we had to stop at the general store, which is the only place to get gas.

Awesome location. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. Not sure if always like this since the campground is so close to the water, but it was pretty windy when we stayed. Also, not the most level ground, at least in the spot we were. All in all though, would recommend.

The beautiful ocean view and wonderful people.
The cove has excellent coffee places and restaurants. You will see seal, sea lions and deer. Maybe even a bear.
The staff at Shelter Cove Campground is excellent. Shout out to Jim, Auroa and Micah.
Make sure to visit Black Sands beach.

Nicely spaced sites, ultra clean showers and bathrooms. Great gift shop, we took a copper etching class. A true hidden gem on the lost coast. Jim the maintenance guy was outstanding, goes above and beyond! A bit of a crazy road in and out, but that just works!!! Great spot for camping.

Absolutely LOVE it here!!! Tiny coastal town, amazing sunset views, and great food nearby. We enjoyed the tide pools, even after the tide started coming in. I found my very first sea urchin shell!!! It is a bit windy, depending on the weather.

Fantastic RV spots looking out over the Pacific and the Cape Mendocino lighthouse. Grassy area for RV parking, picnic tables and fire pits. Loved the deer that roamed the area daily. Staff at campground is amazing, friendly and very helpful. They went out of their way to help us when our fridge died. Small town vibes, super friendly locals. Not much to do in Shelter Cove, but we loved dinner and bingo night at Gyppo brewery. This quiet town is a perfect place to relax and unwind, go for walks and spend the day reading.
The drive into Shelter Cove is not for the faint of heart. We tow a 32’ rig and it was intense. Narrow, windy roads without a shoulder. Totally worth it, but know what to expect. Definitely bring all of your groceries! It takes an arduous hour to drive back over the windy mountain pass to Garberville. There is a local market about 5 miles from Shelter Cove with a great selection though.

We spent 3 days at Shelter Cove in February & enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s remote in a quiet community located on the Lost Coast area of CA with a great ocean front. We had a full hookup site and it all worked & the laundry was good, there is a nice bar resteraunt nearby & a small market up the hill. It’s a slow drive in but for us well worth the effort.

We tent camped here and it was AMAZING. The pictures don’t do it justice. It was very easy to find, the staff were very helpful and all around amazing. We ordered firewood from the general store and they delivered it right to our campsite (in less than a minute!). The facilities were new and VERY clean. Site was very dog friendly with multiple receptacles for poo bags. It doesn’t get much better than this! Will be definitely be back.

Beautiful sleepy location, placed a few hundred feet or so from the bluffs with a view of waves crashing and right above the runway, though no flights came in during our stay (darn). It felt quite secluded yet very inviting. Great intertidal zone to explore too. Soon after arrival the camp host came to bring us a map and inform us of the amenities offered, including where to find the bar and karaoke! It is also worth mentioning that the bathrooms were exceptionally clean..

We absolutely LOVED this campground! The site has awesome views, the deli is delicious and the beach is incredible! Waking up to the ocean, walking to watch the sea lions and biking to the black sand beach was something I’ll never forget! The local brewery and bar are awesome too! Everything you need to feel immersed in nature yet still have everything at your finger tips. Will absolutely be coming back.
