Neighborhood description Santa Paula is like a step back in time, many films and TV have been shot here because it is like a throwback to old America. We have a small railroad that goes from Fillmore to Santa Paula and back again and they have special train rides throughout the year. My favorite is the murder mystery train ride. There is also a small private airport in Santa Paula which is famous in it's own right. Hang around the airport long enough and you’ll begin to hear about Santa Paula’s brushes with celebrity. On September 28, 1968, a 66-year-old Charles Lindbergh visited the airport at the invitation of an old friend, Bud Gurney, who had barnstormed with him in the 1920s and then taken over his mail route when he left to make his historic flight to Paris. Gurney, long since retired as a United Airlines captain, had hangared his Gypsy Moth at Santa Paula since 1963. Together, Gurney and Lindbergh went flying that day, and Bud’s son, John, followed in a second Gypsy Moth. John recounts that they had all flown up to a little country strip in the mountains, sat around on the grass and talked for a couple of hours, and then had flown back. Actor Cliff Robertson once had a fleet of antique biplanes here, and even though he now lives in New York, he still maintains a hangar at Santa Paula and a Stampe biplane in flying condition. Actors Gene Hackman and Leonard Nimoy and famed Lockheed test pilot Tony LeVier all used to fly here often. Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin visited several times, once thrilling the airport crowd when he arranged for a Boeing 747 carrying a space shuttle to fly by. And anyone can point out the hangar where the late film star Steve McQueen, who was taught to fly by Mike Dewey, kept his Stearman and his racing motorcycles. McQueen once described Santa Paula as “my kind of country club,” and he was no doubt attracted to the unpretentious atmosphere. There is an amazing restaurant right at the airport where you can watch the planes land or hang out at the Hangar bar at night and catch a game. Santa Paula is also known for one of the most haunted hotels in America, The Glenn Tavern Inn has been featured on many paranormal shows such as The Dead Files and Ghost Adventures. Most of these stories stem from the prohibition era in which the 3rd floor of the inn was a speakeasy and gambling parlor. There are two major claims. One is of the ghost named Calvin. Calvin was a cowboy that was gambling on the third floor. He was caught cheating at cards and received a bullet to the head in the dispute. Many years ago, during a remodel, a cowboy hat was found in a crawlspace with a bullet hole through it. The hat has since disappeared, but Calvin seems to have remained. Calvin's Room is Room 308. The second major haunting is that of a lady of the night. The inn during the prohibition era was also home to a small brothel. The lore of Rose, the lady of the night, is that she was beheaded after servicing one of her clients. Santa Paula murals are another very cool thing to tour and shows some of the indigenous cultures. And don't miss the many taquerias around town, in a town that's 80% hispanic, you are bound to get some of the best Mexican food that California offers. While you are here, check out the Santa Paula Oil Museum, Santa Paula put Unocal 76 on the map. Many cool antique shops downtown as well. Ojai is just over the hill if you are doing a retreat there and want to stay close. Learn more about this land: Welcome to Santa Paula Yurt. Located on it's own area behind our amazing storybook home, a real slice of paradise. Just 2 miles from downtown Santa Paula, 15 minutes to Ventura and over the hill from Ojai , 15 miles. An hour (ish) drive to Los Angeles and about 1.5 hours from LAX. Come experience Glamping in a Yurt with all the comforts of home. Come be a part of our ranch experience. We are just north of "The Oaks" in Santa Paula. The main house is a beautiful storybook home situated on the front property of the yurt. Our home has an organic garden and beautiful pond that we are happy to share. Also, in the front we have a labyrinth for you to do a walking meditation. There is also a hammock to enjoy the lovely cactus garden. Santa Paula Yurt is a 24 foot diameter Yurt with all the upgrades. It’s one large circular room in the manner of a traditional Mongolian nomadic dwelling but with big (real) windows and a chic interior. The Yurt is insulated but it’s still a temporary structure and can be cold in winter. Use the wood burning stove to heat you up in the winter and warm up your tea the old fashioned way in a cast iron tea kettle. It can get warm in the summer but there are two fans in there to help circulate the air and cool it down at night. There’s almost always a breeze at night and it normally cools off at dusk. The yurt is new with all new furnishings inside. All beds are organic with 100% organic cotton sheets. We have space for 8 (max). Two day beds that convert to California King beds, another trundle bed with 6" memory foam and a queen size sleeper sofa. The yurt is equipped with a nice kitchenette including a Ninja Foodie oven that can bake, air fry and dehydrate. Sink with a garbage disposal. Apartment sized fridge with a freezer. Slow cooker. Hot Plate. Mixer and cast iron cookware. Just outside the yurt is an amazing all natural stone & marble glamping bathroom with flush toilet and luxury spa shower. Yurt kitchen sink and bathroom are heated with propane. Dedicated Spectrum Wifi. Laptop, projector, karaoke, 100" large screen, Hulu and any other program you can log onto with the laptop can be projected and surround sound all included with your stay! Guest accessYou are welcome to sit and enjoy our organic garden or the zero gravity chairs by the pond with double waterfall. Yurt has parking available for two cars max (our neighbor has a lot you could park in if you had more than that, but I need to know in advance) But bear in mind, as nice as this yurt is you are still in nature and I guarantee you will see a lizard or two and there are also snakes if you decide to wander about the boulders on our property. We have been known to have a rattlesnake or two around here so beware of that if you decide to explore. I have lived here for 6 years and have not seen a rattlesnake but I think I may have heard one and it sounds like a sprinkler. Also, the yurt is next to Southern California Edison towers in our back yard but I have tried to make them hardly noticeable but I need people to know ahead of time that they are there. A nice picnic table that has a sun shade is there for your outdoor dining pleasure as well as a firepit where you can roast s'mores. There is absolutely no smoking inside the yurt. You may smoke outside and an ashtray has been provided for you. PLEASE DO NOT leave cigarette butts anywhere other than in the ashtray. You will be charged part of the security deposit if I am picking up your used cigarette butts. And I have a VERY keen nose for cigarettes so if you do smoke in the yurt, I will know and you will be charged a security deposit. We are next to the road and there is insulation but the yurt is made of vinyl walls so there is only so much noise that gets blocked, luckily it is not a super busy road but does get some motorcycle noise over the weekends. The curtains are also supposed to be noise cancelling. This is a very private area surrounded by a privacy fence so you will have the yurt, picnic table, bathroom and firepit all to yourself. However, we are in a HIGH fire zone so if there is ANY wind whatsoever, fires will NOT be allowed, no exceptions. Our land here is one big garden of Eden and as such you will encounter natural things like lizards, insects, ants (oh, the ants, don’t invite them to dinner, keep your food tidy) and the occasional barn mouse. You’ll often hear a chorus of coyotes in the night howling back at a passing siren (earplugs provided). They don't come close to the property so you’re totally safe. We keep the Yurt immaculate for you but the whole point here is to be living in and amongst nature. Close to world class hiking in Ojai and amazing beaches in Ventura, just 45 miles to Santa Barbara and an hour to LA. Other things to noteOur listing is open to families with kids as well as our four legged traveling companions (just select an extra person for your dog and let me know what kind of dog it is...don't worry I won't judge) Please book the exact number of people in your reservation that are planning to stay. Extra guests that are not on the reservation will result in immediate termination of stay without refund. Please note $50 charge per dog for your entire stay.

Santa Paula Yurt
We loved this spot so much! We had a group of 9 girls stay here for 2 nights. The bathroom was amazing and we still had hot water on the 9th shower after a dusty camping trip. The outside space for eating and socializing was beautiful. There’s a great spot to hang your hammock if you want to sleep outside, but we fit 9 of us comfortably inside. The small kitchenette had everything we needed to make sandwiches for dinner and bagels/yogurt parfaits for breakfast.

Santa Paula Yurt
If you’re looking for a unique yet comfortable stay then The Santa Paula Yurt is the place for you. This modern rustic yurt is surrounded by beautiful landscaping and is well equipped with amenities. The central wood burning stove brings an old fashioned way of camping and heating to your stay while the karaoke and projector provide a home away from home element. The bathroom shed is ideal for any glamper looking for a luxurious 4 shower head experience. Although the yurt is quite secluded there is some nearby urban noise. Overall this yurt is a great stay!

Cosy, fun filled yurt stay
The Yurt stay was so much fun. Was cosy and well equipped with a great little fire place, beautiful bathroom just outside, glamping plus! Our kids had a ball with the karaoke and board games and we loved watching the huge range of DVDs on the projector screen every night. Delicia was very pleasant and friendly and provided so many little touches to make our stay more enjoyable. The one thing I'd say to be aware of is that there is a noisy highway next door to the property which we weren't expecting. So if you're thinking a quiet idyllic retreat, this location is not that but there is enough greenery around the Yurt to feel like you're away from it all and all of the other features make the stay worth it. Would definitely recommend!
