Welcome to Salty Dog Ranch — a peaceful, rustic escape nestled on 8 scenic acres 10 minutes from the iconic American River, local eateries with live music and wineries. Stay in our charming barn apartment, where comfort meets country character. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable bed, lots of pillows, warm wood finishes, and thoughtfully curated rustic décor that creates a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The bathroom is a standout feature, complete with a classic clawfoot tub and shower, a handcrafted whiskey barrel sink, and an eco-friendly, top-of-the-line Nature’s Head composting toilet. Step outside onto your private deck and take in the serene views of horses grazing nearby. As the sun sets, the ranch glows with soft solar lighting, and the night sky opens up to brilliant stars—offering the kind of quiet and calm that’s hard to find. You may experience hearing coyotes, owls and other farm life sounds. Salty Dog Ranch is a true working ranch surrounded by beautiful oak trees, where you can experience the rhythm of country life while experiencing the magic of Equus. A horse can tell you more about yourself in 5 minutes of silence than a human can in a hour of talking. A horse’s heart-field is massive and its intuition is even bigger. They have a way of looking past our amour and see straight into our souls. At Salty Dog Ranch, we believe healing happens when you simply are. If you come to a horse with an open heart and your true self, you’ll find they are the world’s most patient teachers in the art of looking within. Our herd is here to help you ground yourself. Horses are incredibly sensitive, they mirror our internal state, helping us find the quiet corners of our own souls. When you meet them with authenticity, prepare to be amazed at what you find in your heart and soul. Whether you’re looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, or enjoy a unique ranch experience, Salty Dog Ranch offers a memorable and relaxing getaway. *Guidebook with QR code provided with more information, eateries, wineries and more!**10 minutes from: The American River, Coloma The South Fork of the American River in Coloma is one of California’s most iconic whitewater rafting destinations, known for its exciting yet accessible rapids and stunning Sierra foothill scenery. There is no AC in the barn apartment but we do provide fans. Opening the windows at night allows the cooler evening breeze in. We will provide ear plugs for those with sensitive hearing. You may hear the neighbors feeding their animals in the early mornings. They have donkeys that “Bray” with excitement but this last less than a minute. You have private parking in our driveway. There will be solar lights/lanterns to guide you through the barn to the barn apartment. Since we have cows and horses, there will be flies in the summer time. We do our best to mitigate this but they will be around. We have fly traps and will provide the apartment with all natural bug spray. You may hear/see me feeding and cleaning.
