We enjoyed the peace and quiet here. The cabin was perfectly cozy and provided all the necessities for glamping. We also really liked the host’s recommendations in town - we tried Java John’s for coffee and Lola’s for a nicer dinner our last night. Russ and Kim both greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. The property was very easy to find.

another incredible stay. kim was so kind and welcoming. she even left me a goodie bag since i’ve stayed there multiple times. it wasn’t too hot even with the heat advisory. i love the new little additions too. the little overhang over the door for when it rains. the little ledge u see the mirror. the stone tiles in the kitchen area. all lovely! i always find peace and rest here, which is why ill always return

I loved the Russric cabin! It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Even in cold rainy March it was warm and toasty with blankets and a heater. The kitchen has everything you need to stay in or make a solid breakfast for a day of hiking. Russ is kind and welcoming but absolutely gives you your space. Highly recommend!

Peaceful and quiet place to relax after a day of MTB and exploring Nevada City and Grass Valley area. Russ and Kim were friendly and helpful yet never intrusive. We look forward to staying again in the future, thank you 🚵😎

I loved staying with Russ and Kim in R3! The cabin shelter is super cozy and cute, but includes all the plumbing and 'comfort of home' amenities (including a shower, flush toilet, kitchenette, bed and linens) that you need to fully relax and completely enjoy your stay in a beautiful spot - and, at just a short 20 minute walk into town, it really provided the perfect getaway for me to extend my long weekend and see some local sites while visiting town for a wedding.
I would 100% stay at R3 myself again when visiting Nevada City, and would strongly recommend it to anyone else - even if they're camping novices!

I felt welcomed and safe. It might be rustic but really nice sheets, blankets and towels. Also great coffee! Warm shower was a plus after a great hike with my dog.

Another wonderful stay! I might have just count how many times I e been back, and it is truly so peaceful and serene. Lots of rest and time to myself to just cook and read and be. Hope to get back before rainy season! It was so cute set up for summer outside!

We had a lovely time. Russ and Kim provided a pamphlet with their recommendations on places to eat and visit - one of them being Lika's Quarter Cafe. It was great to have some ideas being it was our first time visiting Nevada City. The town is super dog friendly and we loved it. We definitely over packed because their cabin had everything
we needed - towels, bed, blanket, hammock, picnic table and lawn chairs. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for having us!

My partner and I loved the mini cabin and Nevada City! Everyone was very sweet and the hikes around are not too challenging. A wonderful place to relax and explore. 10/10

A lovely basecamp for anything Yuba. Close to Nevada City downtown for a lil shopping or food. Cozy interior, kind hosts. Easy to recommend.

The cabin is a beautiful place nestled in the middle of the woods. It's very comfortable, and Russ was a very attentive host. I highly recommend it! This was my second time staying here, and it's conveniently close to town.

We had a great night with our large dog at Russ’s mini cabin. He greeted us when we arrived and was super helpful with local hikes and restaurant recommendations. Theres plenty of blankets, a heater, a camp stove and water heater, outlets and wifi, and a hot shower as well. Overall an amazing experience!

They were very welcoming. The hut was very clean and quaint! I was surprised to find a small stove, electric kettle, and coffee! It was very warm at night because of the heater and heated shower. We loved the patio lights too! Very cute and peaceful.

Wow. I cannot recommend staying at Russ's Roadside Retreat enough. 🌞First of all, Russ exudes sunshine and was a wonderful host-- greeted us on site and provided recommendations for our stay. The cabin is beyond dreamy. We encountered quite a bit of rain during our stay but the insulated walls and space heater kept us cozy the entire time. Nothing beats watching the rain and twinkling outdoor lights through the glass windows at night.
As other hipcampers have noted, the shower was perfect and heated up super fast. We enjoyed making breakfast in our kitchen nook and fresh flowers on the windowsill when we arrived was the cutest touch.
The location is perfect! A short 20-minute walk to the most charming town with trails nearby.
I had the perfect birthday weekend and can't wait to come back again soon. I felt myself tear up as we packed up our belongings on our last day... that's how special this little cabin is.
And for all my swifties... it's literally the Folklore cabin. ✨

Russ is the epitome of what a hipcamp
Host is. He loves his land and his cabin and he shares is so openly and with such loving and zen like touches. I stayed an extra night just so I could come up after work and have peace. It rained again like crazy, but the vibe was so so good. Absolutely will keep coming back here

We absolutely loved our stay at the Rustic Retreat! The cabin was surprisingly equipped with everything we needed and more for a cozy weekend stay. It actually ended up snowing during our stay but Russ provided 2 heaters that kept the space toasty for us. It was also plenty spacious for me, my husband, and our dog and thoughtfully decorated. The bathroom and sink are fully functioning and hot water came almost instantly. He had a stove holed up to propane and we bought mostly canned foods so it was easy to whip up a meal. In addition to being easy to find, the cabin was located just a 5 min drive to downtown Nevada City which was filled with tons of cute shops and cafes to check out. Russ and Kim were super sweet and made us feel welcomed the moment we arrived. I’d absolutely come back to stay as there were so many trails we still have to explore out there! The cabin does a great job of giving an off the grid vibe while still being super close to any amenity you would need. Book it and you won’t regret it!

I’ve stayed in a lot of cabins in the 4.5 years I’ve been hipcamping. This spot was truly one of the best. So much love put into the cabin and the entire property. It’s truly so cute and cozy. Has all you need, minus bringing what is not included to cool and keep food cold. Russ is so kind and such a testament to what hipcamp is all about. Getting people outside! I loved the rain on the cabin. It created such a vibe and mood. I definitely will return next year

For my last stop on a 10,000 mile journey I was able to nab this awesome little spot! Russ is a good guy, helpful and friendly and made me feel at home and I had total privacy . Bonus that Nevada City is an easy place to hang out for a minute. Perfect spot for me.

This cabin was so cozy and definitely the perfect stop for my road trip. Russ and Kim were great hosts and I really appreciated the guest book with all their recommendations. The area was also super cool I loved exploring the Yuba river and the historic district of Nevada City.
