Location is very pretty. Location as described. When we were there all 4 sites were booked. It was a bit hard to enjoy the environment because we were right next to the hot tub and it was in use a lot. With the frequent use came frequent conversations. But that happens with regular campsite too. The biggest downside to this site is that if more than one site is reserved you run into issues with the restroom. The bathroom is in the same room as the shower. They are not separate rooms that can be accessed independently. There were 7 people there the weekend we were there. People were in the shower, steamer, or bathroom a lot. We had to leave to find a restroom. Needs another toilet or a portable toilet if that many people will be present.

Great stay!

My husband and I spent one night camping in our camper van. Was very easy to find and access. Spot was perfect, we fit great and even had power. The bath house is stunning and we very much enjoyed the hot tub! Was beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommend!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Absolutely Amazing Stay at Roughlands Campsite! Our stay at Roughlands Campsite was nothing short of incredible! From the moment we arrived, Jo, our wonderful host, made us feel so welcome. She went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, she even offered us an extra pop-up canopy just in case, and her responses were always so quick and thoughtful. The campsite itself is stunning! set against breathtaking woodland scenery that makes every sunrise and sunset feel magical. The hottub and bathhouse were an absolute treat after a long day of exploring—clean, comfortable, and so well maintained. You can really tell how much care and pride goes into keeping this place so beautiful and inviting. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature with an amazing host who truly cares, Roughlands Campsite is the perfect spot. We can’t wait to come back! Thankyou Jo!

Overall the property and the hot tub were great! In terms of the site itself, it was on slope so it was a bit awkward set up for our tent but still made it work and enjoyed our time. My only recommendation would be the cleanliness of the bathroom, it was pretty dirty (dirty floors, shower, toilet, cob webs all over) and the hand towel and bath mat were pretty gross (being shared between all the camp sites) . Also the body wash was completely out. Outside of that easy fix I would recommend this spot! Beautiful and peaceful spot for a relaxing weekend away

we visited in early october. it's a great spot and jo is a responsive accommodating host! the sunset views were beautiful and a morning soak in the hot tub was excellent. light bedding is provided, so would recommend bringing your own sleeping bag or a heavy comforter for warmth if temps are a bit cooler. we hope to visit again and try out the steam room/shower!

Everything was great! I loved every part of it, it was spacious & just a great place overall. There are other camping sites that are close by (individual tents, two of them) but you’re still pretty far from them. You do share the bathhouse but it’s honestly a nice spot to go when you want be in the woods but not too far from other people. I recommend 100%!

Jo's set up is so wonderful and relaxing! Everything you need is there already, which made coming in for the weekend so relaxing. Plus the property is both close to downtown Nevada City and far enough from neighbors to feel like wilderness. We'll definitely be back!

Loved it here!

I had a great time glamping on the platform! It was really nice to not have to worry about setting up a tent, sleeping bags, table chairs, etc. This was by far the best bathroom I’ve ever had in any camping experience. Absolutely beautiful and clean shower and toilet. I was also super impressed there was electricity and wifi! I was a big fan of the hot tub, although unless you sit back you do get a view of the other tent decks, and them of you haha. The sites without pre-set up tents were looked nice and I would camp in those another time if I couldn’t book a glamping tent; the string lights at those are beautiful. If I were staying in a glamping tent again, I’d bring my own pillow and a bright lantern, but otherwise felt like the accommodations were perfect. Jo is very sweet and super responsive. Would def come back!

Overall, we had a positive experience. However, it was not made very clear that the bathroom and hot tub were communal. We weren't expecting that. Also, we did not have towels in our room and did not know that until it was too late to ask for them. The bed was fairly comfortable and the view was great, especially the stars at night. Might be nice to note in the description that there are not any outlets in the tent (or consider running extension cords to include them).

Beautiful, serene spot!

This property is stunning and it’s perfectly silent. The glamping tent is perfect for a couple (we had our two small dogs with us, too). Beautiful, serene place to relax. The bathhouse is gorgeous, too. It was the perfect anniversary getaway. We saw a doe (she came back multiple times!), turkeys, bats in the evenings, squirrels, and a few frogs and lizards. Would totally recommend this place and would come back! The only downside (and I know this is beyond the control of the owners) was that on our second night around 10pm, somewhere within a mile or so started blasting music and it went ALL night and into the next morning. We could hear the base for more than 12 hours, and it made it hard to sleep. I’m not sure if this is a regular occurrence, but it was unfortunate.

What a hidden gem. I had an amazing weekend at Roughlands soaking in the tub and enjoying the quiet. I was originally booked at Camp Hollyhock but Jo was kind enough to let me switch sites because Camp Lupine was much flatter. With Verizon I did lose service en route so download your maps ahead of time (although I had service on site). No issues driving on the dirt road in my Mini Cooper. I can't wait to come back!

We really liked this spot! The host was able to accommodate a super last minute booking and is very responsive. The bathroom is awesome (but could use a bit more attention from the cleaning staff) and steam room option is super fun and relaxing. We didn’t get to use the hot tub but other campers seemed to love it, we wish we had another night here to explore more and use all of the amenities! It’s a bit out of the way, but we liked that. There is cell service and WiFi. The single toilet is kind of an issue when there are big groups, tents are a bit small and simple. Not too buggy at the peak of summer. They also have a really beautiful greenhouse garden, not sure if guests are allowed in, but if we had more time we would have asked about it. They allow dogs which is a huge perk as well! Overall good value for the price! We actually didn’t expect the shower & steam room to be so awesome, it was a very pleasant surprise after a night of camping with no showers (never again). Definitely stop by!

Breathtaking Amenities !

My friend and I chose this spot because it has a hot tub and WOW did it deliver ! Not only is the redwood jacuzzi well maintained and stylishly “rustic” feeling but the whole bath house experience was a huge vibe. Definitely had the nicest bathroom facility out of any hipcamp I’ve visited. You’re tellin me you get to use a world class steam shower after a dip in the hot tub ?! Nahhhhh quit playin with me ! Hahaha it’s real though and it is awesome. It feels real crispy and modern in there too. Besides the bath house there’s not too much to write home about besides the grounds being well kept with some pretty trees surrounding you. Not a whole lot to keep you entertained on site but it is WELL worth the $$$ for a stop overnight if you’re cruising through Nevada city. Awesome hip camp right here would definitely come back !

Jo's land was so sweet, quiet, and perfect for a restorative night... The canvas tent and bed were comfortable and cozy. The shower was gorgeous and so pleasant. The outdoor hot tub, looking up at the stars through the tree silhouettes, was divine. Jo's communication was so helpful. Thank you, Jo, for sharing your little oasis in Nevada City!

Great little escape!

The camp was beautiful, and the host was incredibly friendly and answered all my questions promptly. We had an incredible time at the bathhouse with its steam shower and hot tub. Definitely would recommend 🏕️✨💗!

Anything but Rough!

The Roughlands is a sweet camp spot, anything but rough, and I would definitely stay there again, in a heartbeat. The host is thoughtful, responsive, accommodating, and made my week on her land extra comfy. The wash house is super lux, the large group camp site is flat, shady, has power, and the drive to the river is easy and reasonably close, making this campground an excellent value.

Beautiful and easy camping

This tent was lovely. I thought it was going to be to far away from the activities we had planned but it was really not far out of Nevada city. It was perfect. The tent and bedding were great, easily accessible and luxurious, living truly up to the glam camp definition. The bathroom is truly amazing for a camper. It feels like a luxury hotel in the woods. It is nicely designed visually and perfectly designed as far as functionality. I could go on and on but don’t write well. I love the flowers, which turned out to be an unexpected benefit. Flowers left in front of the tent and a beautiful greenhouse / Quonset hut near platform to replenish the bouquet. Going into the greenhouse was awesome as well…it was filled with life. Big chubby bees and different birds… I will definitely return, thank you for creating a wonderful space. And say hello to your adorable pup.

Camping at Jo's land was a really good experience. Jo's sent us detailed instructions in advance and finding the spot was pretty straight forward. The tent was all setup and clean when we got there, and everything in the bath room was also clean and functional. We had the opportunity to enjoy the hot tub and outdoor shower which are ideally setup on an overhanging deck with a really nice view of the woods. Overall we had a very peaceful and relaxing time at Jo's land, we would definitely go back and recommend it to friends.

Beautiful spot! This camp has amazing views, is super quiet, close to fun things to see and do. The hot tub was a great place to watch the sunrise. The bathroom was spacious. I would recommend this camp.

Easy stay w/luxurious bathhouse

This was a great spot to crash for the night. 15 minutes from Nevada City while still feeling pretty rural. Highly recommend you arrive in daylight - trying to find our campsite in the dark was tricky. The bathhouse is gorgeous and luxurious. The cedar hot tub is delightful. Fresh flowers on the picnic table and were a lovely touch.

I’m so grateful we found Jo’s beautiful camping spot at the last minute. The glamping site is scenic, the platform really allowed us to see the surrounding woods, mountains, and starry night sky. The bathroom was impressive and the shower was nicer than most fancy hotels. Having a hot tub to relax in after a day outside was such a treat. Jo was a great and responsive host. relaxing and luxurious glamping

i was lucky enough to book during the week and had the entire place to myself, though it would be absolutely perfect for a close-knit group of friends! the property offers truly beautiful forest views and super comfortable glamping tents. but the real highlight? the luxurious bathhouse and hot tub, which felt incredibly indulgent in such a relaxing setting. everything here is so aesthetically pleasing and well thought out. on top of all that, jo was a kind host and seemed invested in the property and making it a nice place to be. i thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would return in a heartbeat!

Amazing campsite

We really enjoyed staying at Jo’s campsite and would love to stay here again. The site itself was very large and flat and more than enough room for our 2 large (and could easily fit more) tents as well as our chairs and a picnic blanket to spread out. The string lights also provided great mood lighting as the sun set. The view of the hills were beautiful. Despite the summer heat, the campsite is really well shaded by trees even at noon. Our host was extremely responsive and came right away to deal with a water issue and had it back working in no time. Finally, the bathroom was a short walk away and very clean and well stocked and there was even an indoor and outdoor shower.
