Welcome to Red Tail Ranch (newly listed on Hipcamp), a stunning 90 acre property in the Sierra Nevada foothills, just 25 minutes from the Yosemite entrance gate. Among the oak woodlands, meadows and coniferous forest, there are numerous trails to explore the property and direct riding access to a developed mountain biking area nearby. Great birding, botanizing and wildlife watching opportunities abound. Use Red Tail Ranch as an ideal launching off point for Yosemite or stay on the property and enjoy all that it has to offer. We have RV sites with hookups, a four site drive-in campground with clean, flush toilet bathrooms, hot outdoor showers, indoor camp kitchen and gathering space and two walk in sites with more privacy that still have access to all the campground amenities. Whether your pitching a tent or parking a campervan or rv, there are opportunities for everyone. We are 10 minutes from the small town of Groveland with a market and restaurants and just down the road from the put in for rafting on the Tuolumne river. Our pricing is a little higher than other places nearby and this is due to the property's great locations, incredible beauty, and all of the amenities added for a great experience.

Larkspur Walk-in Camp
Quite and Nice Place
I was at Red Tail Ranch campground at the start of June, 2023 with three other friends. We were the only one camping there at that time. The place is very nice, restrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen. The place has wifi as well. Robb is very kind and gave us clear directions. It was full moon that night and the weather was perfect about 60/70 deg F. We were planning to go to Yosemite from here but 120 was closed so had to take a longer route. So we abandoned that idea and instead visited the nearby Lake Don Padero.

Lupine Walk-in camp
Sleeping with owls.
This is truly the best campsite I’ve ever been . My girlfriend called it GLAMPING. You can not beat a hot shower after a long day of exploring! Clean restrooms. So much campsite to explore and a very nice hostess! This will be my go to spot to bring a large group or just me and my lady.

Memorial Day camping
Had a group of 20 that stayed over Memorial weekend. We rented all the campsites. Property is beautiful and very well kept. Bathrooms are flush toilets and are the cleanest we have ever used. The even have a tiny sink in them. Showers were great! Lots of hot water and amazing rain shower heads. We had use of the barn which was great for our large group. We cooked and ate dinner there on the two large tables. Even set up a screen for movie night. Robb met us on check in and showed us around. Very knowledgeable about the area and holes to go on at Hetch Herchy and Yosemite. Sites were level. We will definitely be back again. Thanks Robb!!

Great Gray Owl Camp
Beauty, peace, birds and plants
This is a very special place, far more than a campsite. Sites are spread apart giving each camper lots of privacy, some among trees, some tucked in around a meadow. Nice hot showers and flush toilets, a hang- out spot in the barn, a list of plants and animals recently seen on the property, marked hiking trails throughout. Don't just stay here and move on to Yosemite - this is a destination of its own! From here you can walk or bike on to federal lands and keep on exploring, or you can hang out and enjoy the peace of nature. All the sites are very nice, and if you want electric hookups or a view out your door of the lava cap field, get RV site #1 (it wasn't available for us, but I included a picture so you can see it's view). The wildflowers are amazing this year!

The best camping outside Yosemite
This camp is an absolute gem. I stayed in site "Headwaters RV1" which had full RV hookups, good wifi, overlooked a meadow, and was an easy walk to a community hangout area and kitchen. There are views for miles! The on-property hiking and biking trails on the 90-acre property is pretty amazing, or there's trails on the neighboring national forest. It's a quick drive to Groveland and the Yosemite National Park HWY 120 entrance. If you like off roading or off-the-beaten path drives, there's the national forest, Cherry Lake, and the very scenic drive to Hetch Hetchy, all which pass meadows and rivers. The campsites are spaced out, some shadier than others from which to pick, and based on the season. It's absolutely quiet and there's plenty of wildlife to enjoy. The camp host, Robb, is a nature photographer, environmentalist, and really puts his whole heart into maintaining the beauty of the land. He keeps the property feeling like a true camp (with amenities, if you need them). I will return to this spot anytime I'm in the area.

Pine Siskin camp
Beyond impressed
Red Tail Ranch is honestly off the charts cool. I can’t express how well equipped the camp is for guests. Our host Robb was amazing. He greeted us on arrival too and ensured we were content with our setup and location. This camp really has it all. A dedicated kitchen/dishwashing building, brand new restroom facilities, beautiful outdoor showers with hot water, and full hookups for RV’ers. After we got settled in Robb took the time to take us for a nature walk throughout the property, teaching us about its unique natural history, and had a wealth of knowledge about the wildlife that can be spotted throughout. You’ll find yourself impressed to learn what kinds of animals frequent the property and or live there year round. Bird lovers especially!! There’s a dedicated place for dogs to run that safe and enclosed, this came in super handy after our long drive the day of our stay. There’s so much to enjoy on the property, I find myself already figuring out when I can come back for another stay as I write this. Do yourself a favor, stay here over all those overly crowded and noisy campgrounds in Yosemite if that’s on the travel plans, you’ll thank me later. I’m definitely coming back and will stay here on all future visits to the park.

Headwaters RV #1
The Red Tail Ranch is a hidden gem in the Groveland area. It has great access to town and to Yosemite but is back off of the main road providing quiet and serenity. The site looks out over a lovely lava cap. The property also has a beautiful meadow where deer meander and hawks soar overhead. It is a lovely spot to get away from it all.
