Come pitch your tent under the stars at Rancho de la Libertad! Located in the spectacular panoramic landscape of Wonder Valley, California, we're 15 miles from the East entrance of Joshua Tree National Park and all of the shopping and amenities of Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree, California. Enjoy hiking, stargazing, birdwatching, mountain biking, or just relax on the property: a regenerative agricultural project in its infant stages that attracts songbirds and other fun wildlife rare in the surrounding desert. In the morning and evening, you'll be met with stunning 360 degree sunrises and sunsets like nowhere else. Rancho de la Libertad is a young but functioning and flourishing desert regeneration project, a community-oriented ecological oasis where we integrate ancient knowledge and modern livestock to bring back biodiversity, soil fertility, sequester carbon, and build community sovereignty. We currently raise chickens and have plans to integrate goats and sheep in the next year. Our ultimate goal is desert restoration, so please come with the intention of respecting and enjoying this beautiful land! Occasionally offering spaces for HipCampers is a way for us to bring in additional funding for this pioneering project, and something we do selectively. Please read our rules carefully before booking. We're just North of the Old Dale mines, and set between incredible ancient volcanic mountains. Wonder Valley is an International Dark Sky Community. Book your trip during the new moon to see the Milky Way like you've never seen it before! This site is best enjoyed as a relaxing, rejuvenating getaway. Fully immerse yourself in the sanctuary that is Rancho de la Libertad and find yourselves among artists, writers, and seekers of all kinds. *Rancho de la Libertad has a resident dog, Diego, who works hard keeping our livestock safe from coyotes. If you love animals, this is a great site for you! If you are fearful of or dislike dogs, it may not be a fit. We'll manage him, but he will undoubtedly come say hi at some point during your stay as he roams and patrols the property. Please treat him with respect and reach out to us if you have any questions!Pitch your tent on our fenced plot, and enjoy walks on designated walking paths, access to outdoor bathrooms with compost toilets, an outdoor sink, and several scenic benches to sit and relax on! On low-wind evenings enjoy a campfire under the stars and wake up to incredible Wonder Valley sunrises. Take advantage of the proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, while coming "home" after your adventures to rejuvenating calm. Our lot is fenced, so your food and belongings will remain safe from coyotes or other wildlife during your daily excursions!

We loved our stay here! Close to the main road but not enough where traffic bothered us. Close to the town and also the parks. We loved the dog Diego! He chilled with us while we had a campfire, super sweet dog. Was also nice to have a bathroom close by that we could use! Definitely would recommend this for anyone taking a trip to JT!

Unique desert retreat

One of our favorite landscapes we've found on Hipcamp so far! Stunning 360-views of the mountains swirl around you here at Rancho de la Libertad. You'll find chickens, an open-air bathtub, an awesome fire pit, an airstream, and several unique, spiritual-themed features on the property. There's a Dia de los Muertos altar, and a sandy performance "stage" onsite. Sydney was very warm and welcoming both in prior communications and the day of, and made our experience really lovely. Would recommend!
