Had a blast on Lee’s farm. Lots of privacy but Lee was there for whatever we needed. Rabbits, dogs, chickens, wild turkeys, lots of birds and a horse. Great view of the region’s mountains and Blue Lake, especially at sunrise.

Rabbit, horses, and chickens! Oh my
Great place to get away. Took our 2yo on her first camping trip and absolutely loved it. She hated the s’mores but loved feeding the horse carrots. Higher altitude so be sure to bring a heater if a sort for the winter especially during high wind. Grounds were clean, trash bin and picnic table at each camp (I ended up leveling it with some wood we brought for the fire ring), fresh filtered water definitely made things easier. Farm fresh Eggs were great. Our daughter loved seeing the chickens and rabbits as well. Great place to escape, amazing views and crystal clear skies to stargaze upon. Lee and MJwere very welcoming, very communicative and friendly.

Lee was super helpful and his property is amazing. Definitely check it out if you're considering it! Great access to the Glen Eden trail. And the camping spot stays nicely shaded in the mornings.

Incredible campsite! Had such a great weekend here. The spot is secluded from the rest of the property and offers great views of the surrounding area. The hosts made our stay welcoming and enjoyable and there was great wildlife around the area. Short distance to Blue Lakes to swim which was much needed on a hot summer weekend.

True wilderness camping experience
One of the best memorable camping experiences me and my wife have so far. The camp site has beautiful mountain and lake view. The unpaved single car windy path to the camp site is fun to drive; 4x4 is a must; I think it is impossible or very safe to attempt the trail in any 2WD, I had to engage 4 wheel and differential lock in my Montero and drive in first and second gear most of the stretch. Horses roam around freely in the camp ground add more to the wilderness mood. They do make noises at night that is pretty close to wuffing and noise of a bear, or it actually might be a bear sniffing around our tent, I could not figure out. The sky was spectacular and saw many shooting stars. Lastly, the host Lee is a wonderful warm person, a joy to chat with.

This is quite a unique place to camp. Lee is a friendly and generous host. The campsite itself is secluded and flat with an absolute beautiful view. The evening and early morning there were so lovely in the company of ravens, woodpeckers, quail, jays, rabbits, and of course—the horses! There’s a great big oak to sleep and seek shade under, but it’s still gonna be hot if you’re visiting during the summertime. As mentioned in previous reviews, the drive up to the property needs to be greatly considered before committing to a stay here. My car, a Subaru Forrester AWD, definitely struggled and there were stretches on the property when I didn’t have enough clearance to get up a hill without scraping the underside of my car. I’m not sure I’d personally be up for the drive again. All in all if you have the means and the will, this will be a cool and unusual place to camp.

Camping under the oaks
This is one of the hardest roads my SUV (FWD with all terrain tires) has ever gone up. In fact, I likely would have turned back if it were not for Lee’s help! Our AWD SUV had no problems at all. So heed that warning if you’re not prepared. But also know you’ve got a kind Host on the property! Pay careful attention to Lee’s instructions for finding the property. I’m very glad we persisted because, at the top of the mountain, Lee unveiled the grand view. Lucky us, we arrived during sunset so we had a clear and pretty view of the lakes, as well as the property and campsite in the valley below. The campsite sits at an entrance to Glen Eden Trailhead. There are picnic tables and a water trough on the trail, with a pool and outhouse up the hill — only a minute or so walk where you’ll pass by show rabbits, rocking out to country radio during the middle of the night. The rooster did wake us up well before sunrise, unfortunately, and the pen is close to the campsite. I expect this on a farm, though. What I didn’t expect is the outhouse stocking baby wipes, which is a small luxury that I really appreciated! This is a working farm, and like most farms, not every corner is neat, tidy, and Instagrammable. But the campsite is clear, flat ground and that’s what matters most! We strung string lights from the nearby trees and watched the bats wiz by, eating what bugs were drawn to the light. Best of all, the campsite is far away from the host’s home, so there’s plenty of privacy. The drive back to the main road is considerably easier than the drive in. Enjoy those views while you can!

Beautiful quiet views day and night
Lee is friendly and helpful, at the same time giving space to the campers (equally important in my view). The site is beautiful, truly a million dollar view from the top ridge. The only issue is driving in, just make sure you have 4 wheel drive and be alright with dirt. Everything else was wonderful: solitude, trails to hike or run to the lake (7mi), outstanding views, breeze, stargazing, and even a lovely swing to chill on at the tent site. Thanks Lee, I’ll be back!

Not Good
The host has excellent intentions and very friendly, easy to work with, however, the facilities are really quite subpar for the rate charged. The 5th wheel we rented for the evening had so many aspects that were unusable/broken (A/C, toilet, microwave, screen door) that it equalled that of staying in a tent. We did not stay the night, a rodent scurrying around in the oven area and mouse feces that fell out when the oven door was opened was the last straw.

Well worth thrashing the Honda :-)
We really enjoyed our stay. Our host was very helpful and available and the campsite was lovely. There are some nice hiking options offering a mix of mountainous single track and fire road terrain. During hunting season I can imagine the sounds of gunfire being present as there is a hunting club near by so plan accordingly if that is a concern for you. Our time there was incredibly peaceful and quiet. We did manage to get our manual 2xd Honda Fit to the camp but it could have just as easily not been possible. Plan accordingly. The camp is also accessible on foot from the start of the Glen Eden trail in Scotts Valley.

Really awesome spot - much more beautiful than the pictures. Camper was cozy and warm and Lee was welcoming. I wish I had booked 2-3 nights, but I hope to come back soon! One thing to note before booking: If you don't have all wheel drive, it's a tough drive up/down the mountain and is rough on cars. I'm not sure its possible if you don't have front wheel drive. I wouldn't recommend driving a nice car here unless its awd. Lee was upfront about this, so if you are unsure if your car will make it, I would shoot him a message.

Gem overlooking the valley
Lee has a large property in the hills overlooking the valley so the view in of itself was worth the trip. He was very accommodating and our spot was secluded enough from the other campers and had two friendly horses to keep us company. The site did have an decent incline, but wasn't a deal breaker. Would definitely say you need a 4x4/AWD for the trek up to/from the property.

This was a great weekend getaway. Lee was very welcoming and took the time to show us his animals on the property and was kind enough to suggest a couple of good trails to hike. No regrets here! We would recommend driving here in a 4x4 capable vehicle since the driveway to the campsite can be a bit steep and bumpy.

We were so happy to find this site last minute and could not recommend it enough! It’s exactly as described and Lee sent us clear arrival instructions. When we arrived he greeted us at the gate and made us feel very welcome. Taking the time to point things out as we made our way up to the campsite. Watching the sunrise over the valley is an absolute must! During the days we checked out nearby towns, hikes and stopped at hot springs on our way home. Really awesome site/camp host, perfect for a quick weekend getaway :)

Camping at Horse Lovers Ranch
We loved it! Beautiful views, very private camping site. We loved the horses right next to camp site. They’re so sweet. We brought them carrots and apples and kids had so much fun feeding them! Lake is 5 minutes away and you can park on the side of the road if you would like to go for a swim. Lee ( host) was very nice and patient with us. We had so much fun ! Road up to the property can be challenging if you don’t have AWD drive but it totally worth it! Definitely would go back :) Thank you Lee for a great weekend!

Wonderful mixed bag
My 7 year old son absolutely loved this place!! It is kind of a mixed bag though. There are animals everywhere and the property is beautiful, but it is hard to get to and required all wheel drive to climb the 3 mile driveway. There were also big dogs that were very friendly, but also kind of bulldozed there way around the camp and wouldn't leave. There is a pool and nice hiking trails. I enjoyed myself, but it was a little chaotic.

See all the stars!
Lee was extremely accommodating for everything - helping me get into and out of camp, making sure I was safe and comfortable, and introducing me to all the intricacies of his place. I really appreciated the hospitality - though it essentially is off the grid, there is cell service, fresh water, and at the same time amazing stars because of zero light pollution. Highly recommend! BUT: let Lee pick you up at the base of the ride in, if you can! No reason to try the drive in yourself.

Good spot - some challenges
Lee was super welcoming and gave very helpful, specific directions because we definitely did (like he said we would) lose reception once we got off the exit. We did have service again once at the sight. Entering this place, you definitely need all wheel drive. The driveway is in good condition but it is pretty much all desert gravel and very steep grade in some parts. It's a JOURNEY. If you don't like heights - I do not recommend staying here. My tip is to arrive before it gets dark out and that will remove a lot of the anxiety and fear driving up that driveway (I say driveway - but it is really a road and takes about 10 minutes to reach your site). The site itself is cool. It's a working farm (I think) so there is a lot of stuff/equipment/vehicles just kind of everywhere. There are goats and roosters (that will for SURE wake you up) and three giant, friendly dogs. One of the dogs, Huck the puppy, is probably 115 pounds. He is enormous. He's as sweet as can be, but took a big interest in trying to play with our 30 pound poodle mix, and our dog was terrified. The dogs kind of do whatever they want, so Huck was trying to eat our food and play with our dog (who was not into it) for most of the night and I had to call Lee and ask him to come get the dog. I felt badly about it, but Lee was very kind. Huck came back in the middle of the night, stole our dog's water bowl and ran away with it. LOL. The tent site is better than the site we had - more of a view. There is running water out of the ground. The outhouse is kinda far and uphill. There is a hiking trail that runs right through the sites - which seems great and I would have loved to check it out if we'd had more time. Overall, the place was just what we needed. A safe, nature-filled place to sleep with a super nice host.

Nice spot near Blue Lakes
We had a lovely time at Lee's property. We were so glad it was available because we are able to get out of town and have a great time at Blue Lakes (there is no public access, really, so we rented a boat from the Lodge at Blue Lakes). While the site totally worked for us, there are three things I would call out: 1) the driveway is no joke and although we made it up with our front-wheel drive minivan, in retrospect, we prob shouldn't have tried. I would suggest that Lee put in the listing that the driveway requires AWD (he totally told us, just after we had rented the site); 2) the actual campsite is a bit down from where we parked so expect to carry your stuff up & down. Kyle very kindly lent us a wheelbarrow 3) the outhouse is pretty far from the tent site. Our two families (4 adults, 5 kids) had a memorable time here.

Great View from edge of Remote Farm
Lee was helpful with directions and coordinating arrival. The Dirt road was not rocky, nor was it eroded. Dirt was loose and it was sometimes steep, but no real problem for small front wheel drive SUV. The little goat farm was basic, and the few people friendly. The walk from car was maybe 100 yards, and downhill on a path. Views of an unoccupied ravine, with Clear Lake in the distance. Woodpeckers, jays, and songbirds. A well-placed small rope swing for two, enjoyed the view towards Clear Lake. A great getaway. Enjoy!
