THE WIDERNESS CABIN - Caliente
What can you ask for more? Last minute decision to get away from DTLA and booked it and packed our stuff and left. It was awesome driving to location and seeing beautiful scenery. Oh yes you will see some cows out on the road and just drive slow and observe them. Such a nice way to get away from city life. The location is very relaxing and private. Had lots of fun with my wife and my dog. Definitely my dog had the best time. Would recommend this host and location!

Camping LoCali
The views and seclusion are everything! Beautiful easy drive. Well marked and described. Drive slowly going up the mountain because of the free range cattle. Bring everything you need before going up. No cell service. Hot and Windy during mid-day; plan accordingly. I suggest bringing shade sails not a canopy. Very clean site. It was my very first time camping and it was a great experience. I would totally do it again.

Fantastic Vistas in the Walker Basi
Remote? Check. Beautiful vistas? Check. No light pollution? Check. Campfire rings? Check. As the second guest on Nathan’s land, a fire pit had been built by previous guests, and everything else was bare bones. If you’re looking for quiet, remote time away from the city, this is for you. However, be aware this is rustic... no services, no toilets or water, no cell service. The owner came out during the day and installed some solar lights to mark the campsites (plus he built another fire pit down at the lower site.). Although these lights can distract from the serenity of clear stargazing. They can be pulled off their stake and covered with a blanket/tarp/towel, which is what I did after getting settled. He even left a note to say sorry that he missed me, as I had taken leave of the 90F temperatures plus wind to tool around in Seqouia NP (which is less than 3 hrs away). There’s also a nice Lake nearby, but it was crowded (July 4th weekend). Access: you don’t need 4 wheel drive. Directions from the host were perfect although do heed his advice and screenshot your map in case your nav goes Wonka. Be sure to watch out for cows especially when driving through Caliente (first ~20 min off of the freeway). This is free range territory and cattle roam freely. Subtitle: don’t speed. Locals were generally very friendly- lots of waves as we passed each other on the road! TLDR; remote camping in the Walker Basin with beautiful views. Hot during the summer days, cooler at nights. Quiet and peaceful getaway with several flat spots for tents amidst the rolling hills of SoCal.
