Jones Bar Farm is a quiet little seven acre hobby farm at the end of the paved section of Jones Bar Rd in Nevada City, CA. We have 4 alpacas and about a dozen chickens, who free-range all over the farm. The farm is perched near the edge of the South Yuba River canyon at about 2100 ft elevation. We are "above the fog, and below the snow (usually)." Summers are hot and dry here. Daytime temps in July and August are typically in the 90s, and night time temps are in the 70s. Spring and Fall are our favorite seasons. There is, however, potable water, and the campsites are easy to access and relatively flat. Past our property, the unpaved, and very rough, section of Jones Bar Rd continues down into the South Yuba River canyon for about 2 miles, to a lovely swimming hole. Bicycling and hiking are very popular activities in this area. If you are bringing your dog with you on your travels, you will want to be aware of the many unpleasant sticker weeds that are prevalent everywhere around here. Foxtails, filaree, and hitch-hiker weeds will all find their way into your dog’s fur. The farm is about 6 miles from both Nevada City and Grass Valley. Both towns have lively and interesting down-towns with good shopping and restaurants.

Site 1 at Jones Bar Farm is easy to access and is relatively flat. It has a picnic table and potable water. There is no bathroom onsite. Camping here is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who want a convenient base camp in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The farm is located just outside the famous gold-mining towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City. Scott's Flat Lake and Rollins Lake are not too far away. The South Yuba River is a very popular destination during the warm months. This is a great launch spot for all of the outdoor activities for which Nevada County is famous. Drinking water is available at the campsite. There is no dump site here. Quiet hours are 10pm to 8am. The RV parking is easy access, unpaved ground. It is mostly level, but you may need to fine-tune the level of your RV. Tent camping is possible, but the site is rough, and there is no bathroom The spot is near a lightly-traveled road, and sometimes tractors or other work vehicles pass by. Having said that, it is quiet most of the time, especially at night. We have alpacas that are fenced off from the camping area, and are not intrusive or loud. They do make a mild squealing sound when they feel threatened. There are free-range chickens and roosters roaming around, although they usually don't go into the RV field area. The roosters crow, as roosters do, and will likely be the first thing you hear in the morning. There is a pond on-site, which is not fenced and has no safety guards except the migrating Canadian geese. Swimming and fishing in the pond are not allowed. Dogs and other pets are OK. If they are aggressive towards livestock, they will need to be on leash or controlled at all times. They will need to be kept from swimming in the pond, as there is some danger of getting trapped in submerged ropes.

Site 2 - Jones Barn Farm
The farm was such a great place to stopover in our travels! My dog loved the open space to run around and explore all while being totally fenced in. The site was cute, with a picnic table, swing and running water. We took the drive down to the river (4wd needed) and the swimming hole was magical. Didn’t swim but definitely a place to be in the summer! Camp host was super helpful and quick to respond with knowledge of the road down to the river. We had a great time and would love to come back again!

We found Anne's place without any issues and it was easy to get setup. Anne offered some things to do in the region and was helpful. We especially enjoyed the remote feel of the property and the various farm animals and wildlife. We biked to the Yuba River on a road that was near the property. Next time we visit Nevada City we will stay with Anne if available.

Great place to relax and unwind! The property was spacious and quiet with the most amazing sunsets. Ann was very friendly and accommodating, letting us know about great places to visit in the area. The temperature was pretty warm the weekend we visited so we spent ample time cooling down in the local water holes at Bridgeport and Jones Bar during the days. The wide open space also made stargazing at night quite delightful. Definitely recommend!

Ann’s hobby farm was an excellent place to stay and play. We made the 16 drive into Nevada City times for the coffee/cocktail scene and it was a lot of fun. We also made the 2 mile trek down to Jones Bar for an incredible dip in the beautiful Yuba-Sutter River. Overall great experience!

Tranquil Spot
Site 2 - Jones Barn Farm
Site 2 was a great site for our RV --- had plenty of shade, plus a swing, picnic table, and park-style bench. Being in the middle of the summer, there were a lot of dry and prickly things around that we had to be careful of when walking our dogs around the property, but Ann did make that very clear in her description on Hipcamp. It was July when we visited, so the weather was quite warm, but I imagine it's really lovely and temperate most other times of the year.

Site 2 - Jones Barn Farm
Ann's place is wonderful! A peaceful bucolic setting. I enjoyed the shade of the big oak tree, the tire swing, and the chickens and llamas for neighbors. Although we did not have a lot of interaction (I was only there one night) Ann was very friendly and welcoming. She also provided good advice about a grueling hike to the Yuba. I very much enjoyed my stay at Jones Bar Farm and hope to be able to visit again

Our family had a WONDERFUL stay at Ann's--Jones camping spot! It was just what we needed to catch up on some sleep and have some quality family time. The scenery is beautiful; our 10-year-old loved the swing under the tree and we painted rocks as a family on the picnic bench. The alpacas are super cute to look at! We did hear the rooster, but he was not annoying at all, our roosters actually make a lot more noise 😁. The surrounding land is beautiful and well taken care of and, although we didn't meet Ann in person, we texted and she was VERY accommodating to my family's needs! (THANK YOU SO MUCH ANN)! 💜 We had a great time touring Nevada city, Grass Valley, Auburn, and Sacramento, AND experienced our first ever escape room in Grass Valley which was a ton of fun. We visited two local candy shops, and had AMAZING Thai food! It was the best mini vacation we could ask for and we are grateful for Ann letting us stay on her land....We certainly look forward to coming back again!

This was a sweet spot to spend the night. Peaceful, with beautiful sunset and sunrise views, sounds of nature. A great place to unwind. Ann communicated quickly and thoroughly.

Jones Farm was an easily accessible and spacious site. While it was very hot when we were there a two big oak trees on site number two provided ample shade. The farm animals and the unobstructed views of the sky made for beautiful evenings. I can’t wait to come back again.

Great place to camp! Quiet, flat, and I loved being near the alpacas. We arrived late at night and the hosts gave us clear instructions to find the site. Note that there is nowhere to go to the bathroom besides the ground (that I saw)

Ann’s place was so private and big! I appreciate how clean and easy it was to get around. We especially loved picking some blackberries! It was so great to meet her and her husband as well. The alpacas were another favorite! We loved having our pups with us too- they loved running around :)

Great time camping here. Ann was a great host. There is a beautiful swimming hole 2.5 miles down the road - it's a challenging hike back up but we enjoyed it. If you drive, you probably need 4WD.

Ann was extremely helpful and accommodating during our stay at this Hip Camp, she greeted us and even went as far to let us borrow a table and some camping chairs when we forgot ours. It was easy to find with directions, super close to the South Yuba River and the Alpaca's were great! We'll definitely be back.

I had a wonderful stay at Jones Bar. It is a secluded, peaceful area of Nevada City. Ron and Ann were personal and attentive, leaving me saddened I couldn’t stay for longer! I would wholeheartedly recommend to anybody passing through the area.

Serene , Bucolic , Getaway. Many birds visit the pond & pasture . Enjoyed the Bicycle rides on country roads ,esp the 8 Mi "back way" to Nevada City ,thru the trees for sightseeing & Lunch in the little town ! Their Alpacas made me chuckle with their SILLY faces and curious nature & there is something special about watching colorful Chickens "hunt & peck" The Hosts are "Chill", There if needed, Good people . . Jones Barn Farm
This is a beautiful property, and the owners are very kind. It is also very close to a nearby winery and statehouse. Both are fantastic. .winery especially is a hidden treat. The whole place is Very private and quiet, and lovely. If you are looking for a great spot, near a few great hidden gems, can’t go wrong.

We spent a night here in our truck camper for a lovely evening at the farm! The land is beautiful, and there are all kinds of animals around (llamas, chickens, dogs, and cats). Overall, this was a great campsite to stay at to explore Nevada City, the Yuba River, and beyond!

What a great spot! It was conveniently located to both Nevada City and Grass Valley, yet in the beautiful countryside. The sunset was amazing and the farm animals adorable. There was plenty of room for our dog to play and it was well kept up. I especially loved the red barn, and the crow of the rooster! Admittedly it was early, but he’s just doing his job! Thanks Ann, I had a great time and I hope to be back soon!
