Darryl's farm has great vibes & he's a very accommodating host. I've stayed there twice & will probably stay again. Woke up to deer eating apples in the yard, wild turkeys running around, and a hawk circling the orchard.

Love the wildlife!

The host was super hospitable, and answered all my questions I had about the area as someone looking to move here, he was always consistent about checking if we need anything (without being over bearing!) and just helpful in general. Beautiful gardens, loved watching the deer graze around the apple trees, all the birds, etc! Very peaceful experience (which is ideal since buying property is up there in terms of stressful life events!)

Darryl’s Slice of Heaven

Darryl is a wonderful human being. His place was magical for us. It checked all the boxes, which were toilet, privacy, tranquility and wildlife. Darryl is a very attentive host and made sure we had everything that we needed or could ever want during our stay. After that, we hardly saw him or anyone else. Once booked, he reached out immediately and was quick to respond to every message. Directions were great - property was easy to find. The whole place was super quiet and tranquil. It was exactly as pictured. We go camping to get closer to nature, to get peace/quiet, and get away from people and the chaos of highly populated areas. Darryl‘s place does not disappoint, if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s off the beaten path and secluded. Our camp spot was perfect for us because it was right in the middle of all the wildlife. We had deer coming through our camp frequently. We got to watch the turkeys go to roost in the trees every night and glide down to the ground first thing in the morning. We fell asleep to the sound of the wind blowing in the trees, the birds chirping, and an owl hooting in the distance. It was like we were all alone on our own private island in the mountains. It was so nice that we decided against a motorcycle ride to Shelter Cove because we just wanted to stay in our campsite and enjoy it to the fullest. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you Darryl!!

Excellent communication, directions and hospitality. We enjoyed that is feels away from it all but not too far off the beaten path for exploring the redwoods and coast. Will go back when the orchards are in bloom!

Darryl is lovely and his property is way up there in the hills above redway. He gave me a little tour around the property and a bagful of delicious pears from his trees. No complaints. the only reason I give an "OK" as opposed to fantastic is paying $50 + fees ($65) to pitch a tent in an orchard, with a spigot, a (clean, unsmelly) composting toilet and a table with chairs. this is my first HipCamp so I dont know what to expect value::price, and it was a holiday weekend so my options were limited. If I had my druthers Id take a morie developed campground with mroe facilities (for less $) in the redwoods, or go back country for $0 and expect zero infrastructure

Tent camping by the apple trees!

Beautiful bit of land for camping! There are permanent residents nearby, but the site felt very private. Darryl gave us a great tour of the property on arrival, you can tell he puts a lot of love into the land. Close to town but far enough off the beaten track to get some peace and quiet with the trees. Lots of turkeys and deer but not bothersome. Great stargazing too!

The site was absolutely wonderful. The hosts were incredibly nice and easy to talk to, and the camping site was gorgeous and close to cool native wildlife. I couldn’t have asked for more.

This is one of the best places I have stayed. Darryl was so kind, he meets his guests, and offered me fruit from his garden and orchard. It has a fun vibe, lots of colorful art on the buildings. Thank you Darryl.

Very Sweet Spot in the Mountains

Darryl was a very welcoming host at his beautiful peaceful land! Sleeping in a quite orchard with a sweet cat romping around was very restful. Darryl was very accommodating and kind.

Beautiful little site up in the woods. You'll most likely wake up to deer and turkey munching on some apples but you'll have everything you need even a provided tables and chairs.

Darryl was super welcoming and the property/campsite was great. Easy to get to and close to the redwoods. He even took the time to put together a list of redwood related sites to visit in the area which he emailed over. I highly recommend staying here if you’re in the area.

Darryl was very communicative and informative. The campsite is very close to the Redwoods park, which was perfect as we had a morning race there. It’s on a beautiful road you can walk up and down. You will have to use a compost outhouse and you will be camping in a yard vs a park - expect playground structures etc. Overall a good experience that met our needs of being close to the park.

So. Humboldt Cabin Experience

Darryl’s land was great! I was a little worried about the roads to get there since I drive an old van but it wasn’t too bad. Not hard to find either. It’s super beautiful and Darryl is very friendly and accommodating. His cats are so sweet, especially Wonder who I got to hang out with pretty much the whole time. I spent the night in my van and it was very quiet and peaceful. I would love to come back some day, highly recommend it!

Hip camp with pets!

Meeting Daryl and finding the property was very easy. He was so nice and showed me the cabin. We felt very safe and at home. Our girl (dog) was welcomed. Daryl accommodated, all of our needs We would definitely come back.

Wild Turkeys and Deer!

We enjoyed the wild turkeys and deer that roam the property. Additionally, two beautiful cats will come to greet you, one particularly friendly! We found a nice level spot with plenty of sun for solar and no trees restricting Starlink, so I could catch up on some work I had due. Things to be mindful of: There’s a steep grade with loose rocks and a lot of dust on the way up to the property. There’s even a sign recommending 4 wheel drive. We have a Ram Promaster with front wheel drive and we we’re fine but the weather was good and my husband a good driver. A less experienced driver or a lot of types of vehicles may have struggled, so just be mindful that you can get there. I highly recommend having a self-contained toilet. The toilet closet was not something as a woman I would use. However, nice to have if someone really needed it. We didn’t get a chance to meet Daryl but he sounds interesting from other reviews.

Charming, friendly, welcoming place

We had a wonderful time staying at Darryl's. He was so kind and accommodating. We booked quite last minute, late on a Saturday evening and he generously welcomed us. His property is so vibrant and lively, as is he. He's a wise soul and has really made a beautiful and genuinely welcoming space to share with guests. He has some adorable animals, including an extremely talented dog, and majestic deer eating apples in the orchard right beside the tent. If you go, do yourself a favour and ask Darryl about anything you're curious about, and stay for a while!

I truly enjoyed my stay at Darryl’s HipCamp. Darryl took amazing care of us and he was super fun to hangout with. The property was nice and in a good location. I loved all the wild (but nice) animals I saw on Darryl’s and all the other people and visitor there were friendly and happy. I would go back for sure!

We tent camped in front of a refurbished, colorful RV which was super fun! The land was absolutely beautiful and fun to navigate. The redwoods were gorgeous on the way up and the actual site was in a clearing.

It was plenty spacious and at night we truly enjoyed the quiet and the stars. Darryl is very knowledgeable about the area and always willing to have a friendly chat. Darryl is a welcoming and interesting host. Showed me all around the place and told me the stories behind it all. Very helpful and kind, I was eve offered fresh fruit from the orchard and fresh veggies. Big field and static rvs to sleep in or just camp or truck camp. Darryl is a part of the community and a conservationist and knows the area well if you need advice. Had a great stay and will stay again when in the area.
