Welcome to High Desert Protocol, a serene 6-acre sanctuary nestled within the stunning Joshua Tree landscape. At the heart of this desert oasis lies an impressive 80-foot swimming pool and jacuzzi, seamlessly blending into the untouched surroundings. With the property adjacent to expansive public land, guests can enjoy unobstructed views that stretch for miles. This private and expansive compound is ideal for intimate gatherings, retreats, dinner parties, or simply a peaceful escape for those who seek style, seclusion, and an unparalleled desert experience. The property features two guest rental houses and a charming vintage Spartan Trailer, all available for booking via Airbnb or our website. Guests are invited to indulge in all the amenities the compound offers, including a spacious outdoor kitchen with a 20-foot concrete dining table, an outdoor bathroom, an art gallery, a hot tub, the swimming pool, and, of course, the breathtaking desert vistas. For those seeking unique accommodations, we offer two RV hookups and options to rent an on-site Airstream, a Teardrop trailer, a converted shipping container, a van, or even a sailboat with a stunning wooden interior. Additionally, guests have immediate access to hundreds of miles of trails, allowing them to explore the natural beauty of Joshua Tree right from the property—no need to drive anywhere!

Bring your own tent and sleep under the desert stars on a private 6 acre compound. You get access to a shared pool and hot tub in a creative and communal environment. PLEASE NOTE BEFORE MESSAGING/BOOKING: The entire property is 18+ (no kids allowed) and the pool/hot tub area is clothing optional. It’s a 6 acre property with multiple rentals so the pool is shared with whomever has rented accommodations (including us, who live here), it is not open to the general public. Sometimes there are many guests, sometimes there are none at all. Beautiful hikes. 20ft concrete table with fully stocked shared outdoor kitchen available for your use. Creative, calm, communal place to connect with nature and other interesting humans. It's dispersed camping, so you can pick your camping spot! The most space and always available location being at the entrance of the property in a spacious dirt lot. Please be mindful to not set up camp in designated RV sites or too close to rental houses, both marked with signs. Please do not block any roads with tents or vehicles. Be aware there is a security camera pointed at the entrance to the parking lot, for privacy, camp passed the two trees in the center of the lot. A public semi-outdoor restroom and cold-water shower is also available for your use. Located in a tin building attached to a small house with a green roof, marked as "WC". Be warned we are up a dirt road that sometimes gets ruts from rain wash. Sedans without 4wd make it frequently, but drive with caution.

Wander down to the pool or adventure into the hills behind the property, where hundreds of acres of pristine government land stretch endlessly—just as wild and breathtaking as anything in the national park. Please note: this is an adults-only property. No one under 18 is permitted. Guest access Guests have access to the pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen, art studio, walking trails from the property, and our newly launched Quonset Hut - a multipurpose event space for music, screenings, parties, and more. I loved how even when camping we were able to have access to home amenities like a hot shower and full kitchen. We were able to take in the views of joshua trees in the valley and breathtaking sunsets and sunrises. We will definitely stay here again, it was so peaceful.

All of Tao’s spaces were lovely and we had a fantastic stay at HDP in the gallery. Loved the outdoor kitchen that was pretty well stocked with all the basic cooking necessities and then some. Tao was responsive and friendly and the property was beautiful, night time under the stars in the hot tub was sublime. We will be back 😊🤟🏻

A magical experience
Spartan Imperial Mansion Trailer
This place is so magical and so happy Tao shares this space he's created with the world. The Spartan had great vibes! We roamed around the lot exploring the pool, hut and outside kitchen. We met some fellow hipcampers and chatted and it's just an awesome community that's going on here. The road to get to the entrance is a dirt road with soft patches, my little Nissan Kicks was able to make it through no problem. It is extremely dark at night so be mindful going in and out. Also a previous reviewer made a comment about too many lights and couldn't see stars. Maybe Tao made changes, but I was able to see stars just fine at night. Can't wait to come back!!

We very much enjoyed a 3 night stay at vanarchy 1. Magically created and curated place for those wanting a unique stay in one of the most beautiful high desert locations within yucca. It's way off the road, secluded and provides the type of quiet that a desert dwellers and city dwellers crave. We happen to hit it just at the tail end of a storm and got graced with rainbows and mystical skies but it would serve us just as beautiful had it been a bluebird weekend. We enjoy the jacuzzi and all the other shared spaces were inspiring. Also appreciated getting to wander off and hike and enjoy the vast indigenous plants this place has to offer. Thank you for making our first hip camp stay the best! We will be back!

Great little getaway! If you're in the LA area, it is very convenient to take a break for the weekend and enjoy your time in the desert. This location is on your way to Joshua tree national Park, so it's very convenient to stay here if you're visiting the park.

The stay was awesome the grounds layout was thoughtfully designed, there was plenty of amenities From the fully stocked kitchen to our door grill. Showers and bathroom were centrally located on the grounds making it a short walk no matter where you stayed. I would love to return!

This space is truly splendid and rejuvenating. The grounds are well-maintained, and the scattered Joshua trees are beautifully highlighted by soft lights at night. Tao's property was an incredible, picturesque stopping point on a long drive. The pool area is spectacular, there was lots of beautiful land with Joshua trees and bats galore, and there were plenty of spots for tent camping. You definitely won't regret watching the sunset in the hot tub! I will certainly be back the next time I travel through the area or visit Joshua tree.

What a well kept property and I have to mention it's 18+! So nice to mentally get away from innocent minds, I'm a mother myself and being able to just be an adult and not worry about being appropriate around little ones was so nice. I was so impressed with how well kept the property was, cute little touches with disco cactus and a warm fuzzy around to lay down on inside the Hut, the communal areas were inviting. Sara was present and was so nice to talk to happy we got to meet her. We will defiantly be back! We brought out pop up trailer and used electrical hookups and ground was leveled nicely for our trailer.

EVERYTHING went well, literally no complaints. Can't even believe how amazing, magical, mesmerizing and wonderful this place is. The prop. Manager was so nice and caring. The amenities are top notch for any camping style you choose. We could not get out of the pool it was so beautiful and breathtaking. So many times we stopped talking to just stare at the views. Even at night, the lighting around the kitchen and pool and the Joshua trees in the distance created the vibe of my dreams. The attention to detail with the design of this place is true art. I absolutely loved this stay and location and hosts. I've got gratitude to the moon and back, Thank you thank you! Knowing there are amazing locations like this in the world, created by thoughtful and caring artist and visionaries gives me hope for humanity. Would 100% come back. <3 Thank you again for this space, and what is now cherished memories.

Gorgeous site and a very cool little compound, we had a great time lounging in the pool! Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Amenities were great too, having a real bathroom with a shower was a big plus, and we got lots of use from the kitchen area. Would love to go back!

I honestly don’t know where to start. This place is so beautiful and special, everyone is so welcoming and it is just such a calming and zen place to be. Watching sunsets in the hot tub, chilling reading and looking out at the incredible views. Me and my partner never wanted to leave and stayed an extra two days. Really was paradise!

The land is beautiful and the pool area is breathtaking. It's lovely to see the sunset, moon and sun rise, in such landscape. We stayed in one of the trailers. After it finally cooled off with the AC in the bedroom, it was more pleasant.

10/10 This was the perfect getaway from LA. We only stayed one night, but it truly felt like a vacation. The pool was amazing, hot tub was plenty hot, the grounds and facilities were super nice. All in all this place is a really cool setup that is nicely curated and thoughtfully setup. Great spot, highly recommend.

This place was amazing! Tao was a great host and I don’t think you will ever find a set up like this. Truly one of kind. We chose a Vanarchy site to test out our new truck camping set up but will definitely book one of the air stream options for future visits. The pool, the communal areas, everything really felt like home!

High Desert Protocol Camp
Tao and his spot were awesome! The place looks just like the pictures. The pool and hot tub are well maintained. Tao was very good at communicating the amenities and how to get there. This was the perfect weekend getaway! I would definitely stay again!

Tao has a lovely spot very close to Joshua Tree National Park. We stayed 2 nights. The day we stayed on the property we enjoyed bird watching and hiking up the mountain behind his place for spectacular views. We cooled off in the pool during the day and enjoyed stargazing in the hot tub at night. The road in is bumpy but fine if you are prepared. We came in late at night and originally missed our turn to the exact camp spot b/c the sign had blown down, but it was easy to turn around and figure it out via Google Earth imagery/Taos instructions. There are a few other airB&B's on the property and kitchen is communal. We were off grid so didn't utilize this but it was nice to fill up water bottles at the tap. A nice basecamp for anything in the surrounding area. Tao was very responsive via text.
