RV Campsite #15 - Scenic Sanctuary
We had a large group of adults and kids but the campsite and the camp hosts were very accommodating! We had 3 sites all right next to each other: #14, #15, & #16. It's great for all levels of camping, since we had such a diverse group. Water and electricity on all the sites were very convenient. Bathroom and shower were very clean and easy to use.
The views were amazing! We could see the lake clearly every morning and it was just fresh air all around. Cows were grazing down below and you could hear them every now and then which was nice because it made you feel like a part of nature.
We also were able to walk on down to Josie's have a few drinks and a good time as well.
The site host, Lana, called it a hidden gem and it truly was.
We will definitely keep this site in mind for future outings.

RV Campsite #16 - The Amphitheater
We had a large group of adults and kids but the campsite and the camp hosts were very accommodating! We had 3 sites all right next to each other: #14, #15, & #16. Bed was very comfortable and the AC worked really well which was needed on a 90 degree day! The outdoor space was really nice too and a pretty view.
It wasn’t very secluded if that’s what you’re expecting and you can def hear car noise pretty consistently. Weirdly the trailer was clean but still felt a little dirty— like one of the windows is cracked for example.
Overall I’d stay here again but not for the price. I think it’s pretty overpriced.

Lower Campground - Amazing views!
Overall a good experience. Views were amazing, no shade though. However the instructions for the location were incorrect. (Described The Cove instead of Lower Campground) we shared our site with another couple and their dog. No biggie, just the space seemed a little small for two cars and two tents and a sense of privacy. (We didn’t know the other couple) lots of horse tails around the camp. Bathrooms were great. I would come back just probably pick a different direction

RV Campsite #15 - Scenic Sanctuary
Upon arrival we weren’t given the spot we had booked online. That was a bummer because it had a great view of the lake. Luckily they had one spot left that our trailer would fit in.
Overall the place was nice, new and clean bathrooms/showers. The saloon on their property was awesome with live music. We really enjoyed our stay after the first hiccup.

The trailer was cozy, well-maintained, and well-appointed! Lots of kitchen supplies including plates, utensils, cups, a few pots and pans, knives, and cutting boards. Nights were super quiet and peaceful. We had a very restorative weekend. Another reviewer said the shower was cold - for what it’s worth, it’s nice and hot now! Definitely coming back.

Stunning View from the Perch overlooking Lake Henshaw, the Warner Ranch, Palomar Mountain, and Hot Springs Peak. 30 amp power, Water, and a very nice deck. Enjoyed the event this weekend with 4 bands at the Bar. The hike up and down the hill is not advisable for less agile individuals. Use caution entering and exiting this site as the transition from Mesa Grande Road into the dirt site scraped the undercarriage of our 30’ class C. No damage though. Beautiful view, friendly staff, great food, beer, and entertainment. We will be back!

Great facility & campsite! The location is wonderful and the site has a relaxing, small community feel. Francisco (the booking manager) was great to deal with and very accommodating. I'll definitely be back!

Reserved this site in addition to site 16. Great views and angle of the sunrise was blocked a decent amount to provide good shade in the morning. Reference site 16 review for more details.

Had an awesome time camping with a group of friends here for a weekend getaway!! The camp was exactly as expected. The directions provided to get there were clear. The bar nearby was a great escape from the mid day heat to enjoy some live music. The camp host was very responsive with all of my questions as a first time guest. The view was amazing, bathrooms very clean, and they even provide a trash can on site. Not sure if we were supposed to toss the trash at the front or not but we didn’t have room in our cars and didn’t notice garbage bins near the exit until we left. Had we caught that sooner we would’ve carried some of our trash down on our way to Josie’s. We did separate recycle and glad we did since there was also recycling bins available. Next time, we will make sure to take down ourselves.
Overall, I definitely recommend and looking forward to another visit in the future. We had a lot of dogs, cars, and people so we were suggested to get site 15/16. We went in June and the trees provided good shade in the morning to sleep in a bit at both sites.

The Cove#2: OakTree Shaded Campsite
Gorgeous views and very comfortable campground with nice clean toilets and showers. Well kept.
Easy access. Nice hiking nearby. Friendly people.
The bikers' bar nearby added a charm - we could hear a music that was not loud or obnoxious, but rather pleasant., and only during daytime.
The only thing to consider is the noise from nearby highway: if you want remote quiet location to disconnect from civilization this noise, that could be heard day and night, might bother you.
Overall, we liked it very much and we had a great time.

We've gone to a ton of campsites and this place is definitely one of our favorites! Our only disappointment is that we wish we could have stayed longer! Fantastic location and that view was unreal! It could have been a painting. Pictures do not do it justice. Very private location and plenty of space to relax and spread out with our group. Comfortable and quiet. Conveniently located near bathroom and shower. We would absolutely come here again!!!

Josie's Hideout Backyard Camping
It was a beautiful experience I originally was at Josie’s backyard. This sweet Argentine man let me and man set up our tent by the lake view it was so beautiful to wake up to. Everyone that worked there was nice and attentive I will definitely be back

The Cove#1: OakTree Shaded Campsite
My friends and I had a great time at Hideout Mountain! The location is super convenient, the grounds are well kept with open campsites and clean bathrooms, and the staff is helpful and responsive. Thank y’all so much for a great weekend!

We were looking for someplace to stay locally for a holiday getaway, and when we found that the site was nearby to Josie's Hideout we knew where we wanted to stay.
The Crossing description was accurately described. It does not have a view of the lake, but the trees all around were lovely to take in nature. There were many birds flying around and it was wonderful to sit back and relax and watch nature around us. There is a fire ring and a sturdy table available. The site is ample and easy to park our trailer into.
The nice part about this specific site is we were able to sit in the shade behind the table and listen to the band playing at Josie's Hideout. The band faces away from the campsite, but the audio was surprisingly clear so we could be in our own chairs while enjoying the band of the day.
Julian is about a half hour down the road and is a fantastic town to shop in antique stores and get their famous pies.
We hiked up to The Perch, and while the posting says there's no potable water, there was water up there (not sure if it's drinkable). The views from that site are phenominal and the road up to the site is paved better than the Crossing. However, I don't think that you'd be able to hear the music as well and it isn't as easy to walk down to the bar. There are pros and cons to both sites. I'd stay at either site in the future.

I'm giving a 10/10. Me and my family enjoyed our spontaneous trip to Hideout. We were extra happy with the view, the outdoor lighting, the A/C unit, the outdoor shower with hot water, and the comfort of the camper.

Lower Campground - Amazing views!
Loved the view! The space was easy to find. My only issue was that the path to go up to the bathroom was steeper and slippier than I had expected. I would totally go back but I am probably going to choose one of the upper sites instead.

The perch was a stellar view. We were the only ones to book out of four open spots which was ideal because we had full access to the site’s campfire ring and lookout point. It was strange that many other campers from tent spots down the hill came to the lookout and stayed for hours at points… I guess my point is, there may be other people around even if you’re the only one to have booked the Perch area.

I took my son to San Diego to visit the college he will be attending next fall. We decided to stay in a campground. After researching for a while, we decided on Josie’s Mountain Top Hideout. Great location, amazing views, firm, but comfortable bed and great, peaceful atmosphere. We had a great time.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would love to come back and check out other sites or the cabins.
Pros: Beautiful, beautiful views around the campground and nearby. Easy to access! Bathrooms, showers and dumpsters on the property. Josie’s hideout was a fun spot to listen to music and grab a bite/drink. The camp host, Francisco was very kind and helpful! He had even invited us to a group meditation he had planned for campers.
Cons: We booked the Josie’s backyard spot and were told 2 other groups were coming to share the space - it ended up only being one other group but there’s not a ton of privacy to be sharing the space with other groups and the other group setup in a walkway and nearby our tent, which we had setup tucked away. Luckily they moved but it was a bit ‘awkward’ being so close by. Perhaps marking spaces for multiple groups would help to avoid any awkwardness for future campers! This site is also near the road which we could hear cars driving by throughout the night.
Overall, we really enjoyed our time and would love to come back to check out different sites on the property.

I had the pleasure of discovering Hideout Mountain Lodge during a break between work assignments, and it turned out to be such a delightful getaway. I was impressed by the variety of accommodation options available, from camping spots to RV and cabin rentals, all with incredibly scenic views.
Initially, I had planned to camp for my entire stay. However, the weather took an unexpected turn with cold temperatures and rain on my last night. The lodge staff were exceptionally kind and offered me a cabin at a discounted rate, which I truly appreciated.
I'm already looking forward to a future visit to Hideout Mountain Lodge and hope to bring along some friends and/or family next time to share the experience.

RV Campsite #1 - The Crossing
Great weekend at the hideout! We stayed at campsite number one. Francisco, our camp host was there when we checked in we were able to back into the spot without any issues. There is definitely a grade so when leveling your trailer bring extra leveling blocks for height. We went down to Josie’s for lunch on Saturday and enjoyed some music and a delicious tri-tip sandwich. Hiking nearby is fantastic as well. Highly recommend!
