Our property is just minutes from Mendocino's beaches, parks and sweet town, yet private and quiet as it is surrounded by 50,000 acre state forest with world class hiking and biking trails directly accessed from our place. Around the giant redwoods and meadows we have sprinkled in the most amazing little cabins, camp sites and deluxe bath house. We have a great outdoor camp kitchen available for your use. The redwood tree shower must not be missed! This is a very special experience for us to share with you. We are a family of campers. We agree, there's nothing better than a rest in a hammock following a hike or a beach day and a night under the stars without the constant dinging of cell and internet! Guests love staying here: "Such a lovely getaway! Our family of four and little dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heartwood. The cabins are great, with comfortable (warm) beds, very clean and cozy. It’s well worth the visit even in the winter! Really appreciated being outdoors surrounded by Redwoods, hiking the trails around the property, the modern bathrooms with hot showers, and the indoor sitting area to make coffee in the mornings. Our stay was relaxing, memorable and special!" Please remember that we are in the woods and there is wildlife around. This site is flat and easily accessible with a beautiful hand made redwood picnic table and dappled sunlight. You have access to all of the Heartwood facilities including our luxurious bathrooms, the common room and the outdoor camp kitchen. The redwood tree shower is also available for your use. You don't want to miss it! This site is offset from the cabins, but has visibility to the larger grounds. This site can hold up to 4 people and one vehicle. (Additional vehicle if added on can park in the main parking area which is nearby). Please make sure to add your total headcount to your booking. When we pulled into Heartwood, my daughter was asleep in her car seat, so I stayed seated while my wife wandered around the misty grounds. She came back 10 minutes later and said “this place is really special.” She knew right away how much love and effort Tim and Kamoor have put into this place. Heartwood is special. From the tiny details (like great body wash) to the vast, open meadows that demand a good frolick, it continued to exceed all of our expectations. It’s inspiring, magical and full of thoughtful amenities. Highly recommend for families with young kids. Sit by the fire and let the littles run feral around this beautiful spot.

Heartwood was a magical place to visit. Amazing hosts, facilities and natural surroundings. It was pouring one night/ following day and we really appreciated the heated common room with kettle and game table. We also liked that other campers were friendly and quiet but also supportive and welcoming of polite (but adventurous) kiddos. Will definitely be back!

NEW! Luxe cabin 8 - Forest View
What a stunning glamping experience! We’ve never “glamped” before, and this was a great introduction. Firstly, that bed was 100000000/10 INCREDIBLE!!! More comfortable than our bed at home! It was a complete surprise that the bed was heated, and even better that we could each control the heat on our separate sides of the bed. We visited during very cold, rainy weather, and that heat came in clutch! Second, huge surprise that our door could lock, we felt very safe at night. Third, bathrooms were well kept and versatile. We were provided towels in our campsite, which was super helpful. We didn’t get a chance to cook so the communal kitchen was not used by us. However, we noticed the “common space” was well equipped and had a toaster oven, tea kettle, and coffee machine, there were blankets and games too. Across the way was firewood, as well. Only negative note… READ THE DIRECTIONS FROM THE HOST!!!! Drive very slowly and follow the directions very carefully. We were naive to think it wouldn’t be that hard, and missed it completely. You truly have no service. Do not arrive in the dark, it will terrify you. Plan to arrive in the daylight so if you miss it, you’re not scared… Despite this, would still recommend this place in a heartbeat. The proximity to Mendocino is chef’s kiss. Great listing!

Our New Favorite Getaway

Heartwood Mendocino completely blew us away. From the moment we arrived it felt like stepping into a peaceful, thoughtfully designed escape that somehow balances comfort, nature and community all at once. The cabin was incredible. Cozy, nicely set up and the heated sheets were next level, especially after a cool and rainy evening. The outdoor tree shower was an experience, equal parts relaxing and unique. The property is perfectly set up for both adults and kids. Our 6 year old son loved the wide open space to run around and the hiking trails right nearby made it easy to stay active without having to go anywhere. One of the unexpected highlights was hunting for banana slugs which turned into a full on adventure and kept him entertained for hours (nice break for mom and dad). The communal vibe at Heartwood is something special. The shared space feels welcoming without being intrusive and the hosts are genuinely kind, thoughtful people who clearly care about the experience they’re creating. You can feel it in every detail. Evenings around the fire pit making s’mores were a perfect way to wind down and the peace sign meadow is great for relaxing or playing tag. If you’re looking for a place that feels peaceful, connected to nature, family friendly and still elevated and unique, Heartwood Mendocino absolutely delivers. We’ll be back without question!

Returning to heartwood

I was so happy to return to heartwood this time with my sister. We stayed in the cabin this time and it was so cozy during the rainy weekend. We got to shower in the outdoor tree shower that was magical. We already have plans to bring my sisters baby next time :). This place is truly one of a kind.

New! Luxe cabin 7
Heartwood was a fantastic, and magical spot. Used this as a spot to sleep while exploring the area but quickly set the stage for the whole trip. Super easy check-in. Such close attention to details with gnomes, fairy lights, and heated bed that makes it all oh-so cozy. It was a quick and easy drive from Heartwood to Mendicino proper, did a hike :15 min away in the Russian Gulch to see a beautiful waterfall through the fern canyon, and a short little stop away from Fort Bragg and the glass beach. Would definitely come back and bring a group to each have our own cabin.

I had a good time camping here! The Oak site was in a nice quiet spot and very level for a tent. The bathrooms were very nice and I loved the kitchen sink area to wash dishes. Good spot for camping with a dog and easy access into town.

I rarely leave reviews anymore (feedback fatigue), but this place is so wonderful I'm compelled to. It's such a beautiful site, so well crafted and thoughtfully designed. Each campsite and cabin had plenty of personal space (each with its own beautifully carved picnic bench), the bathrooms and showers so pleasant and well maintained, with nice smelling soap. The outdoor kitchen was being renovated when we were there but it's clearly going to be stunning. And don't miss the gorgeous outdoor shower within the stump of an old redwood! The hosts were relaxed and kind and it is clearly a labor of love. Will be returning!

What a fun spot near the downtown of Mendocino. We got the Huckleberry camp spot. Great showers inside and out! Nice flushed toilets, a great heated community room. Nice and quiet, a great choice for the nicer amenities while camping!

Small community forest glampground

What a special place! There was a campfire set-up and we just needed to light a match when we arrived. We stayed in Cabin 2, and I'd say all the cabins are about equal in terms of privacy/proximity. The heated mattress pad has two controllers (woohoo!). There's a small, heated community room if you need to warm up, or want a warm space to make coffee (tools for french press, pour-over, and coffee maker available). There is a place to store food, a couple of refrigerators, a few small BBQs, a 2-burner propane stove, and a small supply of pots/pans. There are short hikes and longer hikes through the forest right from camp, which feels luxurious. This is basic, old-school, feel-good glamping, in a great location, with attentive hosts. It was perfect.

Best hip camp find so far Very clean brand new All amenities Shower- toilet building is brand new and well maintained with cotton towels Almost no cell coverage - enough to send “I’m ok” messages and enjoy scenery Very adequate pricing for rv site Idea with communal fire place amazing- since no one smoking in your tent/rv Fire wood also provided Didn’t use redwood trunk shower but looks very pretty

Recommend 10/10 the weekend was perfect we got lucky and had the best weather possible. You can tell they really care about their guests and the way everything is kept in the premises. I was hesitant about booking since I love having my own camp fire however I was glad that we went along and meet some amazing folks during our stay. Will be planning on coming back and having a few other friends join us next time around.

Amazing find!! Super secluded but not too far out where you feel isolated. The amenities made it feel very luxurious. I was skeptical about the tree shower but it was magical. Beautiful area for all kinds of campers. Abundant firewood and a stocked kitchen. Will def come back!!

I just love this spot. It’s my second time here and I had to bring my mom and sister for a shower in the tree. It’s truly magical!

Very cool property. We tent camped in the Oak Camp Site and enjoyed the experience. Really appreciated the cool little communal kitchen area and nice bathrooms. Beautiful grounds and pretty close to Mendocino.

The Redwood Trees where amazing. The outdoor shower was inspirational and the grounds, common areas, and tents where clean and nicely set up. And those heated beds.....wow! We stayed Jan 5, 2026 in the rain. Looking forward to our next staycation as we live only 15 minutes away.

Redwood Camp Site
We really enjoyed tent camping at Heartwood! It’s a peaceful site with indoor and outdoor bathrooms, an outdoor kitchen with a gas stove, toaster oven, and all the kitchen equipment you need, and a communal fire pit with firewood provided. On the day we were arriving, there was a power outage, and the hosts generously offered to let us postpone our trip. We decided to stay, and thanks to a cozy campfire that Khamoor helped us start, we made it through the chilly night. The experience was memorable, and we really enjoyed this lovely location.

We were there in a camper van during an atmospheric river. The bathrooms and shower were great, and we checked out the outdoor kitchen and firepit and would love to go back with better weather.

Heartwood Camp’s Huckleberry site was an absolutely incredible stay. The scenery alone is worth the visit—towering redwoods, peaceful forest views, and a truly serene atmosphere that makes it easy to unplug and relax. The facilities are top-notch. The camp kitchen is well thought out and very convenient, and the bathrooms are clean, comfortable, and clearly well cared for. Everything feels intentionally designed to enhance the camping experience while still letting nature be the star. One of the highlights of the stay was the unforgettable outdoor redwood tree shower. Showering among the redwoods is magical—private, refreshing, and easily one of the coolest outdoor showers I’ve ever experienced. The hosts are wonderful, and their sweet dog Lola deserves a special mention. She’s incredibly friendly and gentle and may stop by your site to say hello, which only adds to the charm of the place. Overall, Heartwood Camp at the Huckleberry site offers a perfect balance of natural beauty and thoughtful amenities. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, memorable camping experience. 🌲🐾🚿

A true gem in the forest of Mendocino. The attention to details and hospitality was amazing. The communal spaces are well thought out and create an almost hostel like experience. Being pet friendly was a huge plus. We can't wait to visit again!

Redwood Camp Site
We had a great time car camping with our dog at Heartwood this weekend. Beautiful site, with many handy amenities. The heated bathrooms were a lifesaver this chilly weekend, but we still took advantage of the redwood shower! It was great to chat with other campers and easy to drive out to explore beaches and hikes during the day, and run to Harvest Market if we needed anything. We will definitely come back again to camp or stay in a cabin.

Beautiful place.
NEW! Luxe cabin 8 - Forest View
Beautiful place. The room was nice. The bed was comfy. The bathrooms were well maintained. The place had an awesome view of the night sky. Defiantly will be planning a future stay there. Mendocino is like 10 minutes away and fort brag is about 20. There’s not even a real need to bring food so long as u wanna go buy food everyday.
