Near Redwood National Park
Within a 30-minute drive from the Hiouchi Visitor Center.
The campground land is remotely located on private property and perfectly located for excursions to the Pacific Ocean, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River National Recreation Area, and the Pacific Coast Ranges and mountain lakes such as the Devil's Punchbowl, Buck Lake, and Raspberry Lake. Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, mushrooming, berry-picking, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water, an outdoor, cold-water Artesian shower, and an outhouse. Bundles of wood are available for an extra charge when you book. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat only so no water activities are permitted (that is, no swimming, fishing, boating, etc.) The property owner has a dog, two cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

Rustic and Wild Camping
Very remote location, requires driving on gravel roads up a hill. It definitely feels you are going to a jungle. Host had provided a large water jar for drinking, this was super nice. There was also a bucket of water near firepit. this was safe and thoughtful. We could see stars at night because it's so far away from settlement. The camping spots are not very isolated from each other. Our spot was narrow so it felt a bit strange. The lock is manual at the main entrance and has a tendency to get stuck, this was a bit annoying. The bathroom requires packing out single use plastic in the trash can outside, this was weird. Lots of mosquitoes because it's a true jungle. I would definitely camp here again for the rustic and wild experience.

The campsite was beautiful and very quiet, BUT be aware that it is about 2 miles down a dirt road, aside from that 100% will be returning it was very peaceful!

Quiet and Peaceful Spot
Super quiet, felt very remote although close to services. River access just a few minutes down mountain. Bring bug spray, it’s a banner year for mosquitoes in the PNW this year!

We stayed at this camp for multiple days and will definitely return! Situated in dense, mixed forest, the property is beautiful. Kirk, our host, was a volume of information about the local area, the Smith River was a great place to swim and fish. It was a short drive to the Pacific Ocean, restaurants, stores, and fuel. This was the best camping spot we have been to for many reasons! The firewood “add on” was a great deal, we got more firewood that we burned in an evening for a great price.
