Nestled in a canopy of redwoods, less than 10 miles from the beach sits a private and cozy campground. Fern Ridge Flats combines the best of Santa Cruz county. Abundant trees and misty mornings await you at our property in Aptos. Equipped with electricity, water, and a picnic table for your convenience. There are trails on the land for you to explore, animals, and nature to dive into. *************** Smoking and the use of drugs are strictly prohibited. This is a safe and quiet neighborhood with many families including my own. Please do not request to book if you have the intention of partying or using illegal substances. If these rules are violated, local authorities will be called and you will be removed from the campsite. *************** The campsite is less than a 5 minute walk from the parking spot but is relatively steep. Although it is paved it is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. *************** As an added precaution to protect the lush landscape, the firepit at the campsite utilizes clean burning propane. We chose a burner that closely replicates the size and heat of a wood to enhance our campers' experience.Nestled in a canopy of redwoods, and only 5 miles from the beach and the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park sits a private and cozy campground. Fern Ridge Flats combines the best of Santa Cruz county. Abundant trees and misty mornings await you at our property in Aptos. Equipped with electricity, water, and a picnic table for your convenience. There are trails on the land for you to explore, animals and nature to experience. While staying at the secluded Fern Ridge Flats, It’s easy to forget that only a 10 minute drive gets you to downtown Aptos with trendy new restaurants and coffee shops to enjoy. Camping with a baby
The site is magical! Loved how it was nestled back in among the trees and the string lights were a nice touch to add a warm glow in the night. The propane fire pit was a nice easy substitute to a wood fire. We were worried about lugging our gear from the car but it is not a far walk at all and we had a baby. We would definitely consider staying here again!

Super cute lights!
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at fern ridge flats. The lights were sooo cute. The site was small and private. And there was a trail system nearby. The only downside to the spot was that you have to drive up a very windy road to get there and it is a little hard to find. I suggest you follow Matt’s instructions to a T. It helped us find the camping spot and Google maps would not have taken us to the correct place. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. I came for my 21st birthday and got to hang out in Santa Cruz (20ish min drive) and go to some bars with friends. It was a really great experience!

Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping
Such a convenient place to stay for our one night camping trip! LOVED the outlet accessibility to blow up our mattresses right in the tent. The option to purchase the propane tank was nice so we didn’t have to have firewood. Loved the outdoor lights as well to provide ambiance and light for the campsite at night. Overall, beautiful land & the host was very friendly and helpful! Thank you😇

Lovely stay at Fern Ridge Tent Site
Matt’s Hipcamp at Fern Ridge Flats was fantastic! We loved the warm welcome, gorgeous scenery, easy access, and beautiful site full of thoughtful details. It felt very private and secluded and the site, toilet, and fire pit were clean and well maintained. It’s a great place to stay in the Santa Cruz area and close to hiking, food, and beaches. The site is protected from the wind, surrounded by greenery, and we heard and saw so many birds! Thanks Matt!

Very very lovely experience
Matt’s place is very lovely - it’s private and well set up. We had really good time and in fact our 6 year old wanted us to extend the trip. Matt responded to us very quickly and super helpful which made our first camp trip even easier. I definitely will bring family back with more nights, we can just go to beach during the day and come back late night for relaxation. Plus, Aptos down town is very lovely with lots coffee shops and stores. Can’t wait to be back!
