Great spot, the firepit and lights really made the experience. We went with our dog and had a great time. Lots of deer, beautiful property!

The Salty Fox Retreat
We booked super last minute and Laura was able to fit us in on short notice. She is the most amazing host that I've ever met. she was so kind and even brought us some sausages that were amazing. The space itself was absolutely gorgeous and had the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen. The beach is super close and it's a beautiful walk to get there. The sunsets on the beach that is super close are also amazing. everything that I needed was there provided by the host and the bathroom was super clean.

The bathroom was clean when we arrived, and the campsite had lots of space, which we really appreciated. It’s a dogs-on-leash campground, but we still enjoyed it a lot! We didn’t use the grill this time, but it’s definitely something we’ll try next time. Just a heads up — we did hear quite a few coyotes at night, which added to the adventure! The campsite was easy to find and easy to access. Overall, a great stay!

This was the perfect spot for us in our sprinter van. Laura was quick to get in touch when we booked last minute to walk us through getting to and setting up at her property. It was very cool to see deer, owls and turkey vultures while cooking dinner on the patio as the sunset.

It's a really nice and private space. The string lights are big plus at night. Owner is very helpful. Would recommend anyone who want to hang out with friends here.

Great spot close to the beach, either Manresa or Sand Dollar😀. The central pad with the chimenea & BBQ was perfect, under all the string lights. Deer, wild turkeys, owls, hawks all visited us. Plenty of space to spread out. Clean porto-jphn. Neighbors have horses and sheep. Great for small -medium groups. Host was super communicative. Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

OPEN FIELD TO PLAY, THROW BALLS, ETC. FOR UNDER $90 A NIGHT!
The site is priced accordingly, but the real value is the location and the fact there is a huge gigantic field where Turkeys and Deer happily graze and say hi on occasion.
Real Estate in this area, along the Santa Cruz coastal areas are absolutely imsane.
The KOA's on the weekends are also insane, with e-bikes and e-scooters everywhere. They pack you in spots tighter than sardines in a can, with a lot of noises
We went to the Boardwalk, only 22 minutes away for a day trip and the parking lot was $70 for RVs and $35 per car. Dip n Dots for 5 people was well over $60! So just parking and buying snacks/lunch cost us well over our entire stay at Laura's HipCamp - she is an amazing host, and I say this as we almost got kicked out because our dog got off her leash and started checking other dogs in the neighborhood. I spoke to the neighbor and he was really cool about it. And so was Laura, so we had a great rest of our stay.
The site does not have much, but it has just what you need. To be in an area that is hyper. Expensive with your family and enjoy the savings from the site, which help pay for the expensive tourist attractions, for example. Taking, there are three boys and grandma, to Monterey Bay aquairum was almost three hundred dollars.
This place is great if you use it as a base camp and explore the surrounding area, but my family enjoyed The vast OPEN FIELD to play wiffle ball in. A GREAT VALUE INDEED

We enjoyed several nights here in July. Communicating with Laura and getting into and out of the site was quite easy. Laura's instructions for the 1-2 mile or so walk to the beach from the campsite were clear and helpful.
The site itself is spacious and open. We were the only ones at the site during our stay, which made it feel extra private. But there would be ample room to spread out even with both sites occupied. The common platform area and lights were a nice convenience.
The portapotty was very clean and also convenient to have nearby. There is some cell reception, but not very strong, so be aware in case you are counting on that.
As for the surroundings, it's a beautiful area with plenty of trees. There was some friendly wildlife around (turkeys and deer) and a couple of the neighbors in the homes nearby walk their dogs and horse off leash on the road.

We had an excellent experience. Last minute booking, location was perfect. We saw wild turkey, so many birds, deer in the morning. We couldn’t ask for a better time. Laura was so easy to work with. Highly recommended and thank you Laura for the easy graciousness

This is seriously just an open field. There is nothing there.
When we pulled in the one other person had parked right on the one concrete slab with the “communal “ fireplace as if it was his own private Idaho. 🤦♀️
Santa Cruz is silly expensive so I guess that explains why this is a $90 a night spot.

We camped during summer and Laura's land was pleasant and easy to access. It's few miles from Hwy 1 and about a mile from the KOA - a great location. Laura was also wonderful to work with. I would recommend.

My stay at Salty Fox was absolutely wonderful! The property is amazing, especially the concrete flat with a fire stove—it made for the perfect campfire and cooking experience. The setup was ideal for relaxing evenings under the stars while still being comfortable and convenient.
The location couldn’t be better—close to all the must-visit spots like Monterey, Santa Cruz, and the Bay Area. Whether you're looking for outdoor adventures or coastal exploring, everything is easily accessible.
Laura, the owner, was fantastic—welcoming, helpful, and clearly dedicated to making guests feel at home. Her attention to detail and hospitality truly stood out.
I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend Salty Fox to anyone looking for a unique, cozy, and well-located getaway!

Great spot and great host. Laura was amazing and made us feel like hime. Wide open space with fire pit and bbq grill. Short distance to beach, animals around. Woke up to singing birds. Would definitely camp here again.

We loved camping on Laura’s land! It was close to the beach, and close to our friends! There was plenty of room for our 35 ft school bus to park and turn around. Laura was also very kind and helpful! Would definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful stay on Laura’s land! She was a great host and even brought us some free firewood! She kindly gave us directions for a short hike to the beach which was beautiful! Clean porta potty on site and pretty views of farms down the road with sheep. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the area or passing through like us! Thank you, Laura!

I passed through the Santa Cruz area on a weekday in my Sprinter van and stumbled upon Salty Fox Retreat — what a great find! I was simply looking for a flat, quiet spot near the beach to park and relax, and this place checked all the boxes.
The camp spot was perfect: peaceful, level, and just the right distance from the coast. It's also a great setup for group camping or hosting small events — definitely keeping that in mind for the future.
The host was incredibly friendly and responded extremely quickly, which made the whole experience seamless. I’ll definitely be back.
Highly recommend for vanlifers, small groups, or anyone needing a coastal recharge!

The Salty Fox Retreat
Laura was a wonderful host and was receptive the whole time we were there. While the site seemed pretty exposed from the small country road at first, once we settled in, the size of the property made our space more intimate. The concrete pad with the fireplace was our home base and we spent all of our time hanging out there and had our tents far enough along the trees we didn’t bother anyone if they were still sleeping in the mornings. We had a wonderful time! We went to Menresa Beach (paid parking) and got an incredible whale watching show! Would recommend.

The Salty Fox Retreat
I recently booked the Salty Fox Retreat as a place to camp with some friends and to get our dogs away from the Fireworks. Laura was super easy to work with and gave us advice and a map so we could walk to the beach with our four legged friends. The location was super quiet and the weather was perfect. We appreciated the paved area where we could set up tables etc.
I would definitely recommend staying at the Salty Fox if you are visiting Santa Cruz.
