This land was home to the Miwok, then European and Chinese miners, then a cattle rancher. It was also home to a former nun who quit the dominican order to purchase this land for inner city kids to have a chance to ride, swim, hike and fish. We moved here in 2017 and purchased this land with the main goal to raise our large family here, but we have found that good things must be shared! There is NOTHING like being in the wilderness of this area for a good re-centering of the soul! We have found it to be a true blessing for our family, and we hope you can experience this blessing as we share this space with you. We feel certain you will not be disappointed with this beautiful river canyon. Our property is situated right on the middle fork cosumnes river. We have 2 sleeping cabins and several tent sites (can be rented separately). The cabins offer a rustic/minimalist type vibe - bring your own bedding/pillows to sleep on the comfy futon. A table and chairs are provided for the cabins. Tent sites have a wood table (bring your camp chairs) and a fire pit when the season is open for burning. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe! Many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting. It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. The recent Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the cabins. It is still as beautiful as ever but please know there are lots of slash piles. Falling trees and burned up stump holes are also a risk and it is presumed campers will be cautious and use at their own risk. Please don't hesitate to shoot us a message if you have any questions!

Tent site 3
A little slice of heaven!
Campsite 3 at Somerset Camp was such a delight. It was large enough to pitch an 8 person tent w/porch and 2 person shade tent with room to spare (another 8 person tent could have easily been accommodated on this relatively flat site). The two rustic tables were a nice spot to make a camp kitchen. I would recommend bringing a folding table to use for eating and games, etc. The walk to the river was about 3 minutes and about 5 to swimming hole. The restroom was nearby and nicely kept. At Campsite 3 you'll fall asleep to the babble of the river and wake to the crows of chickens. :-) Noleen and her family were welcoming and very communicative. My kids are already decided camping in Somerset will be a tradition.

Absolute nightmare!
This was our second stay and sadly it was absolutely atrocious compared to our first stay. We are city folk so the idea that I could enjoy some nature while having a grill, mosquito net, electricity, a bathroom, running water, and a fridge sounded like a dream to me! (which are included in the listing)Unfortunately our stay was more like a nightmare. I know how to camp but I packed and planned to glamp. We got there and the mosquito net was not there. Then there was no propane for the grill so we went up to the house and the host weren’t home but the person watching their kids offered a bbq but there were no coals. We were told in the morning we would have a propane, we did not get propane until 2. So 2pm we had propane but the running water was not working and neither were the bathrooms. We went up to the house and told one of their older kids the water wasn’t working and they assured us they would let their parents know. By night fall all the other campers were using the restrooms(which were in smelling distance from our tents) and they were not able to flush. When we woke up it was 95 degrees and we were rationing water so we wouldn’t run out but we did. The closest store is a 30 minute drive away and its tiny general store that sells 16 ounces of water for 2 dollars. I reached out and asked to discuss the issues and a refund and the host was very rude and mocked me. I really loved this place and I’m sad we will not be returning ever.

Enjoyable Camping Experience
The camping area is great, with enough distance from the neighbors to provide some privacy. The river is less than a 10-minute walk away, super calm and the trail is super easy. We bought a dozen eggs from them, which made things a lot easier, as we didn’t have to worry about carrying eggs in the car during the trip. The only downside was the bathroom—at some point, the water either ran out or was turned off, making it unusable. Luckily, it happened at the end of our stay, otherwise, it would have been quite unpleasant. Aside from that, I liked it and would definitely recommend it to a friend!

Tent site 3
We loved it! Was so awesome being by the river. We were able to get two pop up tent campers into the spot and it was very shady. We rented spot 2 and 3 because others said they are close together. I would recommended booking those two together if you have a big party. ❤️

Tent/RV Site 2
Loved it! My family and I had a wonderful time. We had site 2 & 3. Perfect if you want to be away from others. You have to walk up and down a hill for the water and bathroom. I have disability so was rough on me but the 20 something & children had no issues. Loved the water! It was so nice and relaxing. Brought out paddle boards.
