The Pauma Band stands out as a unique and culturally rich community, federally recognized since 1891 and officially established in August 1892. Located in the picturesque regions of San Diego and Riverside counties, the Pauma Band is one of seven Bands of the Luiseño people, with a history that spans thousands of years. The tribal lands of the Pauma Band encompass four parcels totaling approximately 5,800 acres, providing a serene environment that reflects the Band's deep-rooted heritage. In 1985, the Band initiated an agriculture project, starting with 5 acres dedicated to Hass avocados. Today, they cultivate Hass avocados, Valencia oranges, and lemons across roughly 60 acres, showcasing their commitment to sustainable agriculture. In May 2001, the Band opened Casino Pauma, which has become a significant source of employment for Tribal Members and the surrounding communities. The casino's revenues play a crucial role in enhancing the Tribal Government's capacity to meet the essential needs of its members. With its rich history, agricultural endeavors, and economic contributions, the Pauma Band continues to thrive while honoring its cultural legacy.
