Surprise Mothers Day plans kept me from enjoying the beautiful wild flowers and the cabin. However I would recommend this to everyone because of how wonderful Coopers communication is! I felt very comfortable before my trip about everything and look forward to planning another one.

Cute little camping spot! Would’ve loved to stay another day :). For our first time camping this was perfect. Amazing sunset, loved hearing the birds chirp, and having other campers nearby was comforting.

The area is full of wonderful sounds of birds, frogs, and crickets. It’s very close to Soda Lake but a bit too close to the road. Luckily, the rain kept the dust under control. We had to leave early due to weather conditions.

Wonderful host, very welcoming and good communication. Great location too! Near Soda Lake and Wallace Creek trail. Loved that we had the whole place (area around the cabin) to ourselves - very private & easy to find.

We loved how remote it was. The proximity to the national monument and soda lake was a plus, but for us we mostly wanted quiet, beautiful, and after sunset: darkness. And that’s exactly what we got. We loved watching our dog sit and watch the gophers (I think) pop up and then scurry back under into their burrows.

Beautiful area, though I suspect that the hosts did not expect anyone to reserve this space this time of year. There was a significant amount of industrial waste and the outhouse was secured and inaccessible.

I did like that there was phone service so I was able to use GPS and Spotify for entertainment. I recommend bringing your own restroom if you don't already. I'm familiar with Soda Lake already so my stay was for enjoying the day hiking around the lake. Other campsites are fairly close to each other. Hopefully you don't mind the company. There are coyotes at night so beware.

Nice elevated shed with no insulation so it can get chilly at nite and bugs get in easier than a tent but it’s nice to sit in the porch and watch the stars. Nice spot for the minimalist

Cooper's site is in a great location if you come for wildflower viewing—the wildflowers were actually at the site! The coordinates were accurate, and the place was easy to find. I would recommend placing a wooden block with the site's name as stated on the map—this would help find the correct site as there seemed to be more sites than on the map. I was there on my own, so there were no issues. It's very basic and does not offer thrills, which is what I was looking for. Finding sites reasonably priced for solo travelers is hard, but this one made the mark.

This was not my cup of tea (an older female traveling alone) but it could be fun for a group looking for wide open space to camp. I came in at night and even with the gps coordinates I missed the entrance. The outhouse was a large trash can under a plank with a hole to sit on - and it was quite full. Fortunately I travel self-contained. That said, the wildflowers in Carrizo Plain are magnificent and worth the visit

What a beautiful camping site! We were surrounded by wildflowers and green hills in the distance. The firepit was large enough for our group of 10 people. There was plenty of space for 4 tents. We did catch a storm for a part of our trip so the campsite got really muddy. We got unlucky with the weather (forecast didn’t warn us about it) but it’s was still fun!

Easy to find. Easy to park my 5th wheel. Close to seven mile road, but only 3 cars went by all night so it was not an issue. The camp was covered in wild flowers. Bortle 3 light pollution for all you astrophotographers out there. The host came out and said hello when we arrived. Very nice guy. Just fuel up on your way to the spot- it's very remote. But that is just what we wanted!

Very secluded spot which has its pros and cons. The closest grocery store being 45 minutes away make sure you have everything. Views were pretty good, but it’s obvious this is more of a seasonal site and I didn’t do enough of my research to find that out. Even then the starry sky was incredible and not something you see every night. The bathrooms situation was alright. Reading some old reviews about the door not working I can tell the host really took those into account as there was a brand new (working!) door on the outhouse. Bathroom was covered in spiders however. Lots of bugs and you could hear coyotes howling which is pretty cool. Other than the fact there’s not much to do around here, I think it’s best you plan accordingly and try and come during the super bloom. Still a pretty good site and we went to Pismo beach and made a little day trip out of it

So many spiders and big bugs! Location was easy to find, right off a dirt road. We unfortunately missed super bloom so it was quite brown and dusty, but the campsite itself was well maintained. Host was incredibly communicative, so appreciated quick responses. Cell reception is decent, nearest town is about 45 mins away. Soda Lake was beautiful, but not a lot to see in the area so we were only there for a few minutes. We ended up driving out towards SLO/Avila and made a trip of it.

Great spot to crash, everything as advertised! A few camping spots around 30 yards from each other, fire pit and level ground for parking and a tent. The directions are accurate and the site is immediately off the street, but might be best to get there during daylight hours. Not much cover out there, of course, so make sure you're set with wind and sun exposure!

Great location at the north end of the Carrizo plain. Beautiful views. It is directly on the road but the traffic was fairly minimal. The appeal of this site was having something guaranteed versus trying to score first come first serve at the 2 campgrounds within the monument. The two sites, Sunset and Sunrise are fairly close together and there is no indication as to which is which. It doesn't really matter i suppose and we were lucky to have great neighbors during our stay. The grounds were easy to locate in daylight. Really the only drawback is the toilet situation. I've dealt with countless primitive toilets and am no stranger to digging my own cathole but this was just at the edge of acceptable. Aside from not being a proper pit or vault toliet, the seat is wooden and is splintering apart. Quite an unpleasant sit in the mornings despite the beautiful views (due to lack of a door). All things considered, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

This was such a cool spot! We were in the middle of a field of wildflowers!! We explored our field and enjoyed the sounds of nature. Speaking of nature, we came across a number of snakes, including two rattlers so keep your eyes and ears peeled!! They blend in SO well. We were also looking for tarantulas and did find one! It was such a fun trip and I felt so lucky to have such a great spot, basically to ourselves! We had neighbors both nights but there's plenty of distance between the two and to be honest, it was nice knowing someone else was there as it does feel quite secluded. We had our camper which worked just perfectly. We were happy to have our own toilet as the on site potty was pretty "rustic." The owner stopped by to take measurements for repairs so it's on the up and up. And he was very nice ;)

Location: 5/5 Amazing spot in the middle of the valley, woke up surrounded by flowers and fell asleep covered by stars! Hosts: 5/5 Never met them but they were responsive and friendly in their messages. Outhouse: 0/5 I've used a lot of primitive/rustic bathrooms in my life and this was by far one of the worst/grossest. The door falling off the hinges was the least of the problems, and no roof was actually a positive because of the air circulation. The pit was a shallow hole in the ground with essentially a bucket inside, but no way of keeping waste and TP from landing on the bare ground next to the bucket (of which plenty had), which means there is no actual containment of waste--it's basically s****ing directly onto the ground, there just happens to be a few pieces of plywood around the spot you're doing it. The bench with the toilet seat was unsecured and had cracks and holes that animals/snakes/wildlife could easily get through--you can see the ground/pit/waste through the spaces in the boards; and in the corner there was a really nasty pile of TP, used and un-used (though not actually usable because it's so dirty), cleaning products, and air-freshener (not sure the point of air-freshener in an outhouse with no roof). As literally the only amenity of the entire camp, it was supremely disappointing and a sanitary hazard. It doesn't take much to make a proper, sanitary outhouse, and it would have been an infinitely better experience if the hosts had made the effort to do so.

Carrizo Sunset
Site was as described. Very minimal. Pit toilet, door was off hinges and doesn’t shut, but better than nothing. Sites were close together so I definitely heard the other campers nearby. Would be nice to have a few more cinder blocks by the fire pit to set things on since I don’t have a camp table I bring along. I went for the wildflowers and they didn’t disappoint.

Perfect place to camp with our trailer. Situated at the north end of Carrizo Plains allowed us to park our trailer then explore by truck & bike. Beautiful property. First time in the area and the super bloom was incredible!

We really enjoyed camping on Cooper's land. When we were there the wildflowers on the property were in full bloom and it was stunning. The sunset was epic, sunrise was beautiful, and waking up there was so special. Also, being right in the plains made our day of exploration after sleeping there easy and convenient, and the fact it's a private camping spot is nice since it's super quiet and no one other than the campers at the other site are around for miles (and the other site was rented by very nice and quiet people). Personally, I found the outhouse fine and in clean shape, though if you're not used to outhouses, I can see what some people find it a turn off. It's better than the ground, folks ;) Fair warning: it has a BIG temp drop out there at night, even bigger than the desert, so fair warning if you are tent camping to pack warm.
