Blue Canyon Happy Place
The best part about this campsite is the view during the day and the stars at night. With a little effort it could be an awesome site, but unfortunately it seems not very well maintained. Trash over flowing upon arrival, porta potty not serviced, left over items from past campers. Not the worst but not the best. The train is quite an experience also! It sounds like it is coming straight at you! It’s almost hilarious how loud and long it is! One other thing, the listing says campfires are ok, but then the host messaged me after I booked and told me to look up the local fire restrictions. The Placer county website was pretty confusing and maybe not even active? I messaged the host looking for further guidance, he said it had rained the night before so we were probably good to burn….

If you're looking for dark skies this is pretty good. I recently took a telescope and camera here and definitely plan to come back.
The only thing to keep in mind is the nearby train tracks. They're about 500ft away and trains come by every 3 or 4 hours.

It's a nice spot. Pretty views and very private. There was an angry man who blocked the road and thought we were with some other people who were hiking around his property. Once I explained that we reserved this spot he lightened up and let us through. The spot is pretty flat but is beginning to become overgrown with various bushes and trees. A few would look nice, but a nice smooth roundabout would be preferable so that a camper doesn't scrape against any tree branches. At some point I don't think you could get a camper into the space at all if the trees aren't handled. Based on photos there used to be a tool chest to use as a bear locker but it isn't there anymore. The porta potties and hand washing station are there but the water is empty at the station. It would also be nice to have a couple small spots that are leveled for tents or rvs. There is also a train that is very close and honks very loudly but we only heard the horn for a few seconds about 4 times in a 24 hour period and it never woke us up at night. Overall, if this place was cleaned up, slightly cleared, leveled in just a few good spots, and judt maintained a little better I think it would be one of my go to boondocking spots. Oh, and the host never got back to me when I messaged him so don't expect any support.

My pack 🐕 and I had such an amazing time camping at Blue Canyon Happy Place! 🌲✨ The views were absolutely stunning, and the peaceful vibe made it even better. We didn’t even mind the late-night trains passing by honestly, it added to the charm. At night, we stargazed by the campfire while the dogs practiced their place/rest before bed. The drive to the campsite was gorgeous, and the whole trip was pure bliss. We’ll definitely be booking again! Thanks to Nicholas for being an incredible Super Host!

Great little spot for shakedown overnighter in my new rig. It was nice to have the site all to ourselves so my dog could freely roam. I loved seeing the stars through my window whenever I’d wake during the night. Bring mosquito spray!

This spot was a nice private getaway during an otherwise crowded memorial day weekend at our regular haunts. The train is very close by, but it doesn’t go by often enough to be annoying and earplugs at night helped. I had train dreams the second night but slept like a baby…playing with trains…lol. I would stay here again. The night sky was 💯

Me and some friends wanted to stargaze a meteor shower so we were looking for spots with good star visibility. This was a great spot, the moonlight dimmed the stars a bit but we still had wonderful views. It was a one day one night trip so we didn't have time to explore the area but we had a great time. It's super easy to get there and the roads are good. The camping site has bear box, portable bathrooms, fire pit, chairs, picnic table. Highly recommend!

The location overall was good. Easy to find, about 45 mins from Tahoe, and quite private.
However, as other campers have mentioned, the train is quite loud. The site is around 100 yards from the train line and it is *very loud* enough at its loudest that you can’t have a conversation with other people. It went by around 3-4 times during the night and made sleeping quite difficult. If you’re a hard sleeper, maybe this isn’t an issue for you.
The site did have a porta-potty which was nice but overall the site is not super well maintained. There is trash in places and also found bullet casings.
It wasn’t the worst by any means but definitely enough I’d say I wouldn’t recommend for a peaceful weekend.

We enjoyed our stay at Blue Canyon Happy Place. We had two small trailers and there was plenty of room. Since it is nice and flat and a clearing, that did limit some of the shade during mid day. The sun shade helped and we brought our own too. The railroad is close and the trains are loud as described, but I like the sound of trains. However they did wake me in the night once or twice. There are two lakes also that are not too far away, less than 1/2 hour, but they were crowded during labor day. I loved the privacy of this location and the ability to be away from other campers. I look forward to seeing what else is done with the property. I will definitely return, especially in Spring or Fall when the weather is not as hot.

Our family loved this campsite. It had plenty of flat land for our tent and we enjoyed the fire pit at night. The bathrooms were clean and having 2 to choose from felt like camping luxury. Our van drove easily over the bumpy road so no problems there. We loved the beautiful views and our kids said it was a wonderful camping trip! Thank you!

Nice secluded camp site. Bathrooms were clean and site was tidy when we arrived. 2WD front wheel drive Ram Promaster 2500 with AT tires made it into the site just fine.

I cannot recommend it enough! The natural beauty of this campsite is absolutely breathtaking. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, it felt like a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The remoteness of the location added to its charm, providing a perfect escape with plenty of space to relax and unwind. Nicholas was incredibly helpful and ensured that our experience was nothing short of perfect. The campsite itself was immaculate it was refreshing to find such a well-kept place where we could fully enjoy nature without any worries. The spaciousness of the site allowed us to enjoy privacy and tranquility, making it an ideal spot for both relaxation and adventure.
I can't wait to return to Blue Canyon Happy Place . It's a beautiful, serene haven that offers everything one could hope for in a camping experience & true to its name. If you're looking for a remote, clean, and spacious campsite this is the place to be!💕

We had a great trip! The site is really private and we appreciated the location because it was close enough for excursions, but still felt remote. We were very happy to find that the site was more protected than we anticipated based on the pictures, there was good shade coverage of the site in the mornings and evenings, and we were mostly offsite during the middle hottest part of the day. We had no issues with the road in a minivan, and imagine in this season a sedan would have no problem. The host was super communicative and the place was easy to find!
The main thing I would let other folks know is that the train is VERY loud (and very long- some trains took 7-10 minutes at least to run through), and trains run through the night. We stayed three nights, it seemed about 2-3 trains ran per night between 11pm and 7am. It is not probable to sleep through the trains, they blast their horn right at the bend where the camp is and even without that are very, very loud. Although the kids in our party did sleep through it so who knows. The tracks are about 100 yds from the campsite, it was fun for our son to see them go by. Overall they did not ruin our trip but would recommend folks consider their appetite for this before booking.

The camp site was nicely maintained. You are yards away from an active rail line, so take that into consideration. We had at least 6 freight trains pass by throughout the night and early the next morning.

We had a amazing time at blue canyon. The view was amazing. We loved that we were alone up there. Everything needed was there. It kinda felt like glamping even though we slept in our car. Great amenities. We have an all wheel drive suv and had no trouble. Sedans might be in for a surprise if there is rain or snow. Be advised, there is a train that comes through regularly but after 1 or 2 times you don't even notice it. Super close to truckee and we went to Reno. It was an hour. Great Basecamp for the Sierras. We would rent again.

It was kind of hard to get to the spot with my sedan, but it made it through. The spot has an amazing view, a fire ring, a bear box, two portable toilets, and outdoor lights, but they didn’t work; the cable was cut in half, and the bear box was dirty. Overall, there was good communication with the host, and if you are looking for time to relax and disconnect, you would like this place.

The campsite is tucked away into the forest, offering privacy and seclusion (exactly what we love). The view at that campsite was drop dead gorgeous, a view of the mountains with trees that seemed to go on forever. We were there in fall time so the the beauty of the fall colors made it even prettier. The campsite had everything we needed, fire ring, picnic table, and chairs. This was a great relaxing weekend with the kids. Some short paths to explore by foot or atv, but not too much to do within walking distance. This was fine by us, as we enjoyed slowing down and soaking in the beauty. Thanks for having us Nicholas!

We did not get a chance to stay at the camp as intended unfortunately… the entrance dirt road had a big dip that we could not get past with our sedan and had to turn back.

We had a fantastic time at this well stocked campsite. There was a bear box full of helpful items, including bins for washing dishes, plates, cups, silverware and even a generator! It came stocked with a portopottie, faucet and several tools.
