BIGFOOT FLAT on Willow Creek

We were the only ones there so Shannon allowed us to pick whatever site we like, and we ended up with the site 4. Can’t really beat the sound of the creek. Loved the oversized portapotty, it felt and seemed as clean as possible a portapotty could be. We got some glimpses of the stars which was pretty.

Ok as a stopover site

We considered this camp to be a place to stop on the way to the coast, but not a destination site. The creek sounded nice from the campsite, but it was not very accessible because of a steep drop-off to the creek. The road noise from 299 was much louder than we expected. It is a busy highway at all hours of the night. If you arrive in the dark, the gated entry would be difficult to see. We drove past it in the daylight because we didn't see the Hipcamp sign until it was too late to pull over safely. Also, 299 has a lot of construction, so be prepared for stops and a much longer drive time than GPS predicts. Many of the activities we wanted to do were a bit of a drive from the Willow Creek, so we ended up leaving early the next morning to get to an area with more to do locally.

We were very fortunate to have the whole place to ourselves for 3 nights . Everything was very well looked after with fresh water and great clean toilet. The camp itself is wonderful and I would be happy to return and to recommend others to visit a least once .

This was our favorite hipcamp yet. We had the property to ourselves in mid-September. Our dogs loved it and we did too. Communication with Shannon was fantastic and directions were clear. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. Clean toilet, trashcan and fresh water available. Even caught a couple little fish in the creek before we left. Wish we could have stayed more than one night but we'll return.

No Bigfoot Sightings!

We enjoyed our two night tent camping at Bigfoot flats, we were the only campers there during our stay. Grounds were extremely clean as were the honey buckets. Great communication from Shannon. Property is gated and locked which prevents any unintended visitors driving through the CG. Great location, close to Willow Creek and a short drive to the coast.

Amazing campsite! Communal portapotties and potable water station. Fire pit and picnic table at each site. No wifi but we had signal at the campsite. VERY spacious campground and campsite, we could see but not hear our neighbors. We were able to park our car, set up a 10-person tent, park a <25ft RV at the campsite, and still had PLENTY of space. The potable water is a bit of a walk but you'd already be half-way if you're already at the portapotty. The portapotty was clean and well-maintained by Shannon and campers were respectful. The sky at night was amazing and full of stars! We had a harmless bat flying and swooping in and snacking on the moths attracted by the light from our campfire. The campground is <10mins away from Willow Creek, ~1hr to Redwood National Park, ~1hr to Arcata, and ~2 to Jedediah State Park. The campground is parallel to the road but a drop down into a small ravine, you'll faintly hear passing cars and trucks. It became white background noise so it didn't bother me at all. Shannon is great, super responsive and proactive. If we're ever back in the area, we would absolutely stay here again

The description of the space was spot on! A little windy in the afternoon, so setting up the tent was a good challenge. The ground is hard/compact so staking the tent can be a challenge. Plenty of rocks to help with that. Nice creek to cool off in. When night sky is clear, great star gazing!

What a Gem!

Bigfoot Creek campsite was an absolute gem. I booked last minute looking for a place to set up camp during my motorcycle trip. Shannon was prompt to respond to all of my questions. The location is tucked away off on the side of highway 299 and is a small valley surrounded by trees and alongside a river. It was serene with minimal noise despite being next to the highway. The site has immaculate porta-potties with water trucked in by the owners. It's just five miles away from town and had 5 bars of Verizon cell service. There are several sites but all are spaced well enough apart to provide great privacy. I'd highly recommend stopping here.

Gorgeous, clean, primitive camping. We had no problem finding a soft place amidst the river cobbles to pitch a tent. The porta-potty was clean and pleasant. We slept well, to the sound of the creek, and occasional coyotes!

Bigfoot Flat Site #2

This was amazing! Easy to find. We had a porta potty toilet that was extremely clean, the site itself was also extremely clean and spacious. Regardless of seeing the other campers we felt it was private. The night under the stars was romantic and it felt like the sky went on for ever. They also had two chairs and enough firewood to start a fire! We came here for our anniversary and planned trips to the Redwood National forest. This was a beautiful place to stop in, set up camp, and be on our way to see other sites. You could hear the river when you sleep, and some pacing cars, but the place itself is tucked away to give additional privacy. The only issue was the stakes for the tent that didn’t stay in the ground, but they had rocks available. Get good stakes. We had such an incredible experience being in the camp site and exploring California. Thank you for being available, and making your camp ground so accessible and beautiful. Keep up the great work.

Watching the trees chitchat!

There was construction on the road during our visit which made finding the entrance a little tricky especially at night, however it was well worth the trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, relaxing and enjoying the dense forest around us and resetting in the swimming hole. The local cafe in Willow creek had an excellent breakfast bagel! We will be back!!

Great spot! Shannon was a great communicator, the site was as described and we enjoyed our stay. Site #4 was a little rocky, but we were still comfortable in a tent and appreciated being rich on the creek. We enjoyed the proximity to Arcata and the Trinity River, the security of the locked gate, and the beautiful stars. Facilities were clean and even with direct neighbors site #4 felt private. Would stay again!

Bigfoot Flat Site #2

Such a simple and sweet camping spot! It is located right below the highway, but the noise is really no bother. The campsites are far enough apart that you can have a decent amount of privacy from other campers. Bathrooms on site and potable water are extremely convenient! Chairs, picnic tables, and fire pits make this spot incredibly comfortable! Plus, you’ll be just a few minutes down the road from Willow Creek proper and all the popular river spots. We’ll keep coming back!

We had an excellent long weekend. Camp 6 was perfect. Glad we brought some extra shade. Shannon responds to questions quickly and was super nice. We stayed here last year and can see the improvements over the past year. Will be staying here again.

Amazing isolated wonder land.

Oh my goodness… this was a 6 hour drive for us and I’m I’m considering the drive again just to be here. So much space.. And the amazing creek. The Porto lav, tho used… was clean as a hotel restroom. The host was so so considerate. I can’t say enough. The space is very rocky and wide and exposed but the access to the creek is why you want to be there. And the sites are super spaced out.

Loved the Willow Creekside campground!!! Owner or manager very patient and understanding with our dilemma and necessary late late checkout. Creek was great for kids and site was huge and flat and had Great shade in the morning unlike some other's here that get full sun early on

Private meadow beautiful creek

A very nice Hipcamp! Essentially a private meadow surrounded on all sides by trees and the Creek running adjacent to the property. Creek was fast running and clean with good shade. Good infrastructure with trash cans and portajons. i have no complaints--very good site

This property is a hidden gem. We camped by the river (it was very accessible and we were able to put our camp chairs in the water and relax in the quiet serene setting. The host was very responsive and the property was very clean (such clean portopottys) and she let us stay late/past check out to continue enjoying the river. The camp sites are huge and its a very peaceful location, but is within 10 minutes of a town for supplies. Will definitely return!
