I tried for a long time to think about how to phrase this in a nice way. The host was somewhat understanding in giving us a refund for the second night of our stay, because we left early, but I don’t think that there is value at this price point. The place is just a shack, it’s falling apart. It is very remote, and that’s nice, but there is no shower and there’s hardly a bathroom. I think at this price you’re better off renting a different place. We had to sleep in the car because the shack is shelter to a colony of bats, which we found out about at midnight. There are several entry points in the shack that should be repaired. We left early. The hike to the river is pretty difficult and long and there are no signs so it’s easy to get lost. Signs would be the absolute least the host could do for campers. The river is blocked by spiky vines and it’s pretty difficult to actually get into. This place could be great but at this price point it is just not. Even camping in your own tent at 90-120 a night is absurd. I was expecting much more at this price point and with the reviews it has.
I tried to give this place a chance with the few reviews but man did it disappoint.
I do not recommend this place if you have children or pets, or if you enjoy not having rabies or bat-carried diseases, or if you enjoy showers or if you actually want to sleep in shelter. IF AND ONLY IF you’d split this cost between 4-6 paying friends, then it might be worth it.

Had a great stay. Their river spot was amazing. It was a challenging trek but was worth it. The host would shuttle you back and forth when he was available.

Our stay proved enjoyable despite initial uncertainties. This property holds considerable promise.
Highlights:
The setting is genuinely spectacular—serene and private (though we were the sole guests), with abundant wildlife including deer, birds, and squirrels. The staff demonstrated warmth and hospitality. Access to the pristine Yuba River, while requiring effort, was amazing and the best part of the trip.
Areas for improvement:
Restroom facilities necessitate walks up to ten minutes depending on site location. River access from our campsite demanded a strenuous 45-minute walk, mostly a descent down steep terrain—manageable once, but the challenging return hike in afternoon heat discouraged daily visits. The pricing feels steep for essentially a cleared parking space with minimal amenities, though this is transparently communicated so not mad about it.
Initial challenges:
Arrival proved problematic: an electronic gate without entry instructions and poor cell coverage left us stranded fifteen minutes before staff intervention. Property signage proved inadequate—a single directional hip camp sign followed by confusing navigation to locate our designated site required multiple phone attempts.
Despite the rocky beginning, once settled, we thoroughly appreciated our time at this promising but still-developing destination.

I came to get away from a busy city life and to celebrate opening a restaurant. This property allowed me to completely disconnect, center and ground myself. As much as a wanted to get away from people and the world I soon realized that what I needed was to meet some truly amazing people who aligned with my core values on nature and passion. Akhi, Borro and Aldo were beyond warm and welcoming to us. They made us feel like family and I soon looked forward to bumping into them. He mentions this place to be Shangri-La and that is spot on the most perfect description of our experience on their land. Surrounded by rugged nature and wildlife with a trail walk to crystal clear sanctuary of river full of adventure and exploration. I stumbled upon this site and now am making it my regular space to recharge.

Quiet, expansive open camping area with beautiful views of the hills. We had a full moon which was beautiful. The walk down to the river (about 2m and 900 vertical feet) is not easy but the payoff is very handsome. Gorgeous swimming holes all to yourself. Akhi was a great host, very communicative. 🙏

Akhi’s place was amazing!! We had such a lovely time, and the campsite was perfect for us. Located under some beautiful tree cover with plenty of shade, we had a wonderful 3 days with our family. Boro gave us a private ATV tour of the property and swim sites, which was so awesome of him. We’ve already booked our next stay!! Can’t wait to go back.

We had a fabulous time at Akhi’s place by the Yuba. It’s about a 25 min walk down to the water (pretty steep) and once you are down there it is breathtaking!! Crystal clear water which was pretty warm and very refreshing on a hot day. Perfect spot for a trip. Worth the price, we look forward to coming back again ☺️

The grounds of this campsite are serene. The hike down to the river is worth the trek to soak up the sun and take a refreshing dip. The staff are very welcoming and will guide you around the grounds as need. The Bali huts are intricately carved and beautiful. We never got the meet the host, Ahki, instead we met Boro and Aldo who made us feel right at home.

Beautiful site. Peaceful, private and quiet. We strolled around and enjoyed the view from the hills. We saw quail, ducks, and a blue heron at the pond. And heard frogs and owls at night. Perfect big dipper skies.
Akhi and the other farm folks were super friendly and helped us get situated.

Absolutely magical! This Hipcamp strikes the perfect balance between comfort and an authentic outdoor experience.
We stayed in Hut #3, a clean, serene Bali hut overlooking wildflowers, a pond, and open prairie. With screened windows and a sliding glass door, the hut felt cozy and comfortable—yet still natural and unpolished enough to keep us fully immersed in nature and connected to the outdoors. Our two dogs roamed freely and even made friends with Akhi’s sweet dog, Sheba.
Akhi and his team were incredible from start to finish—warm, responsive, and genuinely committed to making our stay special. They even welcomed our late 10pm arrival with someone waiting to guide us to our hut and make sure we were settled.
The land itself is breathtaking. A scenic, moderately rugged trail leads to a stunning river canyon, surrounded by untouched natural beauty. It’s a dream for hikers, runners, or anyone wanting to unplug. There’s even a zipline for dropping into a swim hole once the water warms up!
What truly makes this place unforgettable is its story. Akhi once worked on this land for the previous owner. When the owner aged and had no heirs, Akhi offered to buy it. In a fairytale twist, the owner agreed and let Akhi “work off” the land. Years of dedication turned this dream into reality—and you can feel that heart and care throughout the property.
Highly, highly recommend. This place is a gem that lets you feel both cared for and completely connected to nature.

This hipcamp was easy to get to and yet off the beaten path and we enjoyed exploring the secluded stretch of the yuba river that was private . Staying in the Bali hut was a fun experience felt more like glamping . The workers on the land welcomed us so kindly.
