Enjoy a leisurely break from your outdoor activities at Soquel Vineyards tasting room and patio just 2 1/2 miles up the road or Bargetto Winery just a mile down the road. You can bring a bottle of your favorite wine or beer back to your campsite where you'll enjoy the peace and tranquility the forest has to offer. Coastal adventures await you just 2 and 1/2 miles to the beaches in Capitola Village...another mile from there to the 'Hook' surf spot...a short walk from there along the cliffs to famed surf spot and home of Jack O'Neil (RIP) Pleasure Point and the 'Barrel Burrito' at the Point Market, a local favorite. Enjoy some local craft beer and good eats at Nubo (New Bohemian Brewery) on 41st ave just a couple of blocks from the beach. For that fine dining experience, book a ride in a vintage car to the famed Shadowbrook Restaurant overlooking Capitola Village and beach. When you're done exploring all that our coastal communities have to offer, come back to your sweet spot along the banks of Bates Creek and take in the wonderful sounds of nature. Bring your own bedroll, pillow, towels and cooking equipment as well as flashlights and lanterns as this is 'camping' . This camp is in a rural/residential neighborhood, so you will see homes along the road. It is a one lane road with a 15 mph speed posted and no exit as it ends at the Land of Medicine Buddha...you will hear the cars as they drive by.. Named for Joel Bates who settled in Santa Cruz County in the early 1850's. In 1861, three Grover brothers and three other men established a lumber company called Grover and Company 2 miles north of Soquel along Bates Creek. The area came to be known as Grovers Gulch. Bates Creek is one of the areas checked when doing an estimate of the bird population in Santa Cruz County. Our camp spot is situated adjacent to Bates Creek and has access by a foot trail. As you explore the creek, you'll see many birds, perhaps a coyote or two and some fingerling trout if you're patient and quiet. You will also see fossils in the creek bed which tells a geographical story of the land and its relationship to the sea.

Convenient and plus such as a cooler, drinks, and cute area with a table very close to Capitola where it's pretty to bike. Locals were friendly and Capitola views far exceeded any expectations,

Good location close to town and just what we needed for a space to stop for the night. Nice and quiet and while we got in late, we enjoyed waking up to the view of the trees. Responsive and friendly host. Would come back again if we are in the area!

Quiet, serene
This is a lovely quiet retreat area along a brook. There are homes up a hill across the road, but all was quiet and serene. We will hopefully stay here again.

Perfect little hide away near SC
This spot is mainly a parking spot off just off a quite road, we had enough space for two Tundras and tent. We typically just find a quite road to park and sleep in the truck however this was much better and quieter especially when we have a group of people.

Great location!
Great spot to camp for a couple nights. We weren’t there during the day but the place is really close to Capitola which is a cute town. It’s close to the coast and pretty driving. We had a great experience.

Top notch. Christie was super communicative and helpful. The spot is easy to access. My 22 ft camper van for perfect. Right on a creek in a wooded neighborhood with no houses in the side of the street with the site. Nice structures to hide the street and lovely seating. Price is fair too. Close enough to everything in Santa Cruz. I will return!

Creekside, quiet, close to town
Easy to get to and close to town, but really quiet and peaceful. A few caveats: a toilet or porta potti would be nice, and it is on a residential street, so there are houses right across the street from you. That said, the space is large (would accommodate a large rig), it’s full shade because of all the mature tree cover, and the creek is pretty. The host is really nice and easy to communicate with.

Camped out for one night. Directions were great, porterpotty was clean. Camp area was clean and as described. Christine was a great host to work with, didn't get to meet her, but communication was 5 star.

Overall we had a good experience except that the instructions for finding the porta-potty were unclear and the path was a bit overgrown.

Very quiet, very private. Wonderful to camp surrounded by redwoods! Funky, fun chairs and tables. Christie keeps the little site very clean. Keep in mind there is no water and the porta potty is across the road and up some stairs. Blackberries on the path need to be trimmed!

Love it!
Christie was super friendly and greeted us upon arrival. Note that my T-mobile phone had no reception there so you might want to save the wifi password ahead of time. The campsite was right in front of a forest, a creek, and a small road that was quiet. The ground was more leveled than a lot of other sites we have stayed. There are many chairs and tables. Definitely check out the temple 5 minutes' drive away. We will return!

We had excellent communication from Christie. I think we would have enjoyed staying there despite the lack, or maybe because of the lack, of amenities. Unfortunately, it was much closer to our final destination than we’d realized and we just kept going.

Charming creekside spot in woods!
This site was adorable! It is in a neighborhood but it’s still quiet and peaceful. The creek is lovely and a nice private area to sit for morning coffee since it’s down the hill from the tent spot. We happened to meet Christie and she is so sweet and warm. The price is also great for where it is located. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone looking in the area!

I wanted someplace quiet and cool to camp and Christie's spot provides that. Beautiful trees and so green. I admit I paid more attention to the description than the photo. To me this was more of a driveway spot than a camp spot. Also the description says that you will be sharing with another site. So I was aware there could be other people there but I didn't know that they would be mere feet away. So if privacy is important to you then I do recommend you book both sites. Also there was wifi but you do need to maybe put your bed closer to the road as it got a little spotty at the edge. So a lovely spot but it has some limitations.

Christie was a great host, very helpful and friendly. The camper was just what we needed- an easy, convenient place to crash for the night between great hiking areas. It was like camping but easier than pitching a tent and comfortable with an inflatable bed!

Christie's spot was very beautiful and it was just what we were looking for. It was a perfect little spot to pitch a tent for the night. No water or toilet so would probably be better for an rv but we made it work and enjoyed it nonetheless.

Edge of town, unique houses along a woodsy road. My tent site was across the road, next to a ravine. Pluses: shady, beautiful setting, the camping site was set up with a table and chairs and Christie does have the best-camouflaged and cleanest portapotty I have ever used. Minuses:. It is pretty steep beyond the edge, so I would stop in the road and set up a light at the edge so I could tell where I was going as I backed in. Also, it was gravel plus dirt, so a little hard to get tent stakes in. Maybe more suited to an rv or van.

I loved camping in Christie’s place. The campsite was lovely and surrounded by nature. Instructions were clear from Christie and getting there was easy. On arrival Christie met with us. Christie is an incredibly vibrant bubbly and an all round lovely person who couldn’t do enough to help us. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay there.
