Camp surrounded by kindness & love
We were repeat campers this weekend at Hartsong Ranch / Animal Lover's Paradise. This is hipcamp at its best: a lovely spot, with everything you need and more, hosted by the kindest people. Clean, private, at a small lake (bring paddle boards!), and cool, fresh water running right by the camp site. Birds galore. Gas grill on site, several picnic tables, nice gas fire-pit enough for smores.

Animal Lovers Paradise
Camping at HartSong Ranch Animal Sanctuary was a great weekend escape from the city. Kathy & Jim were friendly and helpful and introduced us to some of the animals. The amenities were exactly as described, and the directions made finding the ranch easy. I would stay again and will recommend this campsite to friends.

Idyllic campsite on a farm
We absolutely loved our stay at the Animal Lovers Paradise! The place is so idyllic, beautiful and peaceful! We really appreciated the little touches that made the campsite feel so welcoming - a gas fire pit, hammock, swing, shaded area for seating, and even a rowboat that our kids enjoyed taking on the pond. Our hosts were very welcoming.
While one could hear the geese at night a bit, it didn't bother us (and earplugs help). We found places within 30 min drive to mountain bike. We would definitely want to come back!

This place is the kind of place you don't want to let too many people know about it is pure magic. So many amenities and great for the hub who is not much of a camper. As gorgeous a spot as one could hope for. Privacy as you are the ONLY CAMPERS at this chunk of heaven. Animals lovers delight. Noises do get loud so you might want ear plugs for nighttime as well as bug spray. Without hesitation, if you have an opportunity, book this place and you won't regret it. Love the babbling brook. Loved the blackberries. Love the rowboat. Very friendly hosts. Shade!! Lake. Garbage cans and no need to bring chairs and so many upgrades since last time we came- a hammock!!! Swing for the kids and the best other than the hammock which we loved was the propane fire pit!!!!! Creates such nice ambiance. Thank you Cathy and Jim so much. LOVED!!

A private family retreat!
We took two families including dogs for a weekend trip and feel so lucky to have found this magical place! The added amenities ( shade structures, chairs, bbq, gas fire pit, hammock) meant we didn’t have to pack quite as much. Everyone spent hours rowing the lake, splashing in the stream, lounging in the hammock or sitting around the fire pit. Just the space alone would have been perfect but what a special added treat to meet the lovely hosts and get to know all the animal residents of the ranch. We will certainly be back!

Kathy and Jim’s place really is a paradise. A beautiful private campsite with an awesome view and fantastic amenities. Animals are all around living very happy lives. Peaceful and serene with a small canal running nearby. I would highly recommend this site and will be back!

Animal Lovers Paradise
Great for animal lovers and kids
It was perfect for our preschool's camping trip. It is a beautiful spot to camp and it has been set up nicely. I liked the outdoor gas fire pit that we could use to roast marshmallows without dealing with the smoke and making a fire. This was more relaxed with the kids. The lake was pretty and we saw an osprey catch fish a few times. Everyone enjoyed the rowboat. The animal tour was definitely worth it. It was fun to feed the animals and to hear their backstories. The animals were very friends and the kids would periodically visit them. They are all still talking about the beautiful Sierra, the blind horse. Kathy & Jim were attentive and had great communication. They looked out for us and made our stay a success.

A little slice of Heaven!
Camping at Heartsong was an absolutely beautiful experience! It’s starts from the moment you pull up to that Blue gate :) a pasture filled with wild Canadian geese raising their goslings, ducks, cattle, horses and a pair of American coots! Kathy met us at the inner gate with the biggest smile and welcoming demeanor, she made sure to introduce us to the resident blind horses Cloudy and Sierra as she walked us down to our campsite ( which is beautifully put together and surrounded by a running stream and thickets of blackberry bushes) the quaint outhouse with washing station was very well kept and cleaned. Once we settled in Jim came down to introduce himself and slept us know we had the most adorable camp buddy, if you wanna find out YOU better book this site! Also please please book a tour and meet all the sweet and brave rescue animals that live at Heartsong and listen to the journey Jim and Kathy have been on to make Heartsong what it is today! We will 1000% be back and tell everyone we possibly can to book 2 nights or a week here! P.S. all the residents love apples and carrots if you are so inclined!!!!

Completely Magical Camping Site
We absolutely loved Jim and Kathy's Heartsong Animal Sanctuary HipCamp. The hosts were extremely helpful and yet we only saw them when we arrived, and Kathy explained everything so thoroughly and quickly we never needed to contact her, and we were given complete privacy. The lake is beautiful; we took the rowboat out several times to commune with the many rescued animals on the surrounding shores including Canadian geese, ducks, horses, cows, etc. The animals are obviously treated with such love and respect that they were not in the least bit disturbed by our being nearby. We highly recommend this beautiful, magical, serene spot. We did not want to leave and will return again.

As nice as the listing and photos show. Lots of animals all around the property, mostly in their fenced off areas, though Molly and Bear the dogs were friendly and visited the campsite. Jim was very kind and explained the ins and outs of our stay. The grounds were kept very clean. Porto-potty was clean, not smelly, plenty of soap and sanitizer. Unfortunately we werent able to even use the gas fireplace, which we thought was provided in lieu of having an open wood fire due to wild fire risk, but I guess not. So minor bummer, but we get the reason. This time of year can get decently cold at night (50s), so be sure to bring enough blankets and layers, especially if its around fire season and no fires are allowed.

Hartsong Ranch is a beautiful place to spend a weekend. We brought our 2 year old daughter and she absolutely loved interacting with all of the animals, especially Edward the chicken :). Jim was so welcoming and helpful throughout the weekend. I highly recommend spending some time here.

Animal Lovers Paradise
Loved everything about this place and the hosts! Kathy and Jim is very responsive and friendly. It was a pleasure getting to know them and their farm. It is definitely an animal lovers paradise - our dog enjoyed roaming around making friends of her kind. Though there's a lot of farm animals it doesn't have an odor. The campsite is wide, clean, and flat. Can see plenty of stars in the sky. Their description and pictures are exactly as is. The air quality during this time (early Sept) wasn't smokey at all even with the nearby forest fire.
A note to be aware - it does get loud throughout the day and night with roosters and geese calls (bring earplugs if you're bothered). There are also mosquitos. It is a tent-only campsite where you have to walk from the parking lot down to the site. We didn't know and brought our rooftop tent, but the hosts were graciously accommodating.

Amazing & lovely paradise
Our entire party loved the stay and the hospitality of both Kathy & Jim. The location was very clean and amazing. Having all that space for ourselves with animals all around was very peaceful.
My daughter enjoyed interacting with every one of the animals. She loved and kept remembering all the animals by their names.
We would love to return at the first chance we get based on availability.

Lovely, relaxing campsite!
My husband and I had a magical time camping at this animal sanctuary! Kathy and Jim were both gracious hosts. Kathy greeted us upon arrival and told us about all of the animals and details about the site. Jim gave us some farm-fresh vegetables and eggs, which we thoroughly enjoyed grilling and eating. Our dog loved swimming in the creek and the pond. The blackberry-lined creek is so unique and amazing. We walked along it every morning and night. It was such a great experience to watch the animal across the pond going about their morning and nightly routines :)

Peaceful Paradise
What a wonderful camping retreat! We had a wonderful time at HartSong Ranch. We highly recommend it any group looking for a private getaway. We came with a group of 17 (five families), and everyone agreed it was a fantastic trip. Kathy and Jim are warm and responsive hosts.
Things we loved:
1. Natural beauty - the setting, in between the pond and the canal/creek was incredibly idyllic. Open area with shady trees on the side. No poison oak!
2. Propane "Warming Box" - it was already fire season, so no campfire, but the campground has a long rectangular propane fire pit (like you see in restaurants for ambiance). It was perfect for sitting around and roasting marshmallows. And you can't beat the convenience of turning it on and off with a switch!
3. Provided special amenities - the boat WITH life jackets, the hammock, the sun shade, the picnic table cloth, the grill with grill tools, the handwashing station at the porta-potty, the lights that illuminated with path the porta-potty. All these were so thoughtful and made for a very enjoyable camping experience
4. Meeting the animals! Seeing the ranch animals grazing about across the lake and on other parts of the ranch was special. If you take the tour, you can pet and feed the horses!
Things to be aware of:
1. The canal is wonderfully cool with clear, quick water, but it is not terribly wide for playing in with a group.
2. It won't necessarily be as grassy in the spring/summer as it is in the pictures. Still very nice, but expect some dusty patches.
3. There is only one picnic table down in the campsite. Since we had five families camping, we ended up having to do most of our (camp stove) cooking up near the parking area, where there were two additional picnic tables. It wasn't far, but it is separate from the grill and the tents.
4. If you take the tour with kids in hot weather, bring a water bottle. The history of the ranch and the story of each rescued horse is interesting and heart-warming, but the littler kids may get fidgety and thirsty.
Pro-tips:
1. There is a light in the porta-potty! It looks like an air-freshener, but it's actually a tap light!
2. Kathy and Jim can run an extension cord to the parking area, if you need to charge an electric car.
3. Verizon and AT&T had decent service, but it's kind of dead spot for T-Mobile.

Animal Lovers Paradise
My husband and I have been going there for the past 4 years for my husbands bday. We go with our adult kids. They love to go too. This year my daughter and son inlaw brought their toddler. It just so happened to be Mothers Day this year and my son and daughter in law told us that they a going to have a baby! We are super excited to bring another baby next year. The camp hosts are so accommodating. The camp site is very beautiful. We always catch fish both from the bank or boat. Gotta watch out for Edward the rooster and ? The billygoat. Remember that It is an animal rescue place and some have bad attitudes. We love this place so much!
