The title says it all this property is truly A Unique Mountain Retreat that will give you the peace, quiet and tranquility you are looking for. An energy efficient Uniquely designed home that is off the grid and has a very green footprint with solar and windmill to charge batteries. Oak and pine tree covered acres with fitness and nature trails around the property. Each level campsite with picnic table is designed for privacy with plenty of distance between sites and mountain views in every direction, along with an optional gas log fire pit and BBQ. There is plenty of clean, non potable drinking water, custom built toilets and optional hot showers, limited electrical use, cell phone charging and low power use devices as I am off grid. There is a fitness and nature trail on the property and Pacific Crest trail is approx 20 to 30 min drive, Mountain park which has many miles of hiking trails and an Indian reservation with hikes to many petroglphs. Things to see are the World famous Tehachapi railway loop, historic downtown, vineyards, mountain spirit center a Buddhist temple, glider rides, bicycle riding and fishing. There is cell service around the property but intermittent at the campsites.

This was our second time at this lovely little cabin. A longer stay and still wonderful. John put a lot of work in the waking paths and it is like it’s own mini nature park. Can’t ask for a better host!

Unique Mountain Log Cabin
We had a great time at John's place and the view's were incredible. He gave us a walkthrough of the property and mentioned he had built everything which is very impressive. The cabin is very clean and has everything you need for a peaceful night's stay. The stars at night were magical. Overall, our family had a relaxing time unwinding with our pups in nature.

Very friendly host. Great spot with incredible views, plants and wildlife. Spots are nicely far apart and well shaded. Some quail came through our site as I was getting out of the tent. Pleasant wildflowers around the property. Will try to book again anytime I’m in the area!

I stayed at sight 1, (I can not comment on site 9.) Site 1 is very close to the restroom and common camper space.. I really liked this spot bc I have mobility issues and it was close to restroom and had solid ground to walk on as apposed to walking up and downhill.. several dirt trails through very beautiful areas that I could see from the mountain top. Host John was very kind and accommodating . The stars were beautiful at this elevation.

We had a wonderful time! It's beautiful and quiet and well-appointed. We went for the fire pit and shower add ons and they were well worth it. John is also lovely and helpful. We're already planning return trips.

Unique Mountain Log Cabin
This cabin is super fun and funky! We absolutely loved it! The host is amazing as well!! But the views!!! OH THE VIEWS - absolutely amazing and on a dark night I imagine the stars are super visible (it was the day after a full moon so not too dark) if we weren’t on the way to move across the country we would totally go back and try out the trails on the property also!

What a wonderful location! The cabin was what we wanted in a getaway and more. The host, John is also the best and you can see he truly respects the land by caring for it. The view of the valley is magical and the intention of how John set the property up shows it off so well. Any spot on this property will be a great time 😊

John has created a really special place here. He is a delightful host with a wealth of knowledge about the local area. He has created a unique self sustaining retreat. The campsites are clean and the amenities are particularly nice. Clean bathrooms, non-potable hot and cold water for dishwashing, kitchen area for food prep. Hot showers are available for a small fee. Each campsite has its own picnic table. Views of the surrounding ridges, morning, birdsong, beautiful old trees, all will delight campers. Highly recommend this site.! We plan to return.

Absolutely unforgettable experience
Unique Mountain Log Cabin
I started my trip tent camping at nearby Jawbone Canyon, but after a windy night, I decided to look for something a bit more comfortable for the next evening. That’s when I found John’s cabin in Tehachapi. I messaged him, and within 10 minutes he replied—super responsive! I booked immediately. Since check-in wasn’t until 2 p.m., I hiked the Tehachapi Mountain Trail off Water Canyon Road (highly recommend—stunning views) before heading to the cabin. John welcomed me warmly and gave me a tour of the property. That’s when I learned two incredible things: a) John had built everything himself, and b) the entire property is completely off the grid. I was genuinely amazed. The cabin was charming, beautifully crafted, and the panoramic view was absolutely mesmerizing. The sofa transformed into a large, cozy bed, and the fireplace made the perfect companion for the chilly, windy night. (I made sure to turn it off before sleeping and bundled up in the blankets I brought.) The next morning was pure peace. I cooked breakfast on my portable propane stove, journaled while soaking in the mountain views, and truly just breathed in the serenity. Before heading out, I stopped by the shower facility—and let me tell you, the water temperature was spot-on perfect, making for an amazing, refreshing shower. Honestly, if I could give more than 5 stars, I would. An experience I'll never forget.

Cozy and comfortable thanksgiving
Unique Mountain Log Cabin
The cabin was so incredibly cozy. The fireplace kept us wonderfully warm and we used the barbecue grill the whole weekend. Nature walk around the property was so fun and we even were able to see the energy systems that John has for it all. Deep sinks with hot water down at the campsites as well as hot outdoor showers really made the clamping experience top notch for us. Spotted wildlife while there and close enough to adventure out to the next neighboring towns. We will definitely be back!!

Unique Mountain Log Cabin
The most perfect little mountaintop cabin. This was my favorite place I’ve ever stayed. The fireplace makes it so cozy and warm while you stare out at the view & millions of stars. Private bathroom attached to the cabin is such a camping luxury & picnic table, fire pit and grill are such a bonus. You can tell John has put a lot of time and heart into this place. Would reccomend to anyone.

We loved staying at the beautiful mountain cabin John put a lot of heart into! The place is just gorgeous. Huge property with a great hiking trails, amazing views and wildlife. Cabin is simple but has all you need! A sink, refrigerator, fireplace, king size bed and a patio with beautiful views. Peace and quiet! Perfect relaxing spot with a lot of space for your furry friends. We’ll definitely be back ,

Great campsite! We were near the toilets and showers which were clean and had hot water. There is also a sink for washing dishes etc. John was a great host and showed us around his property. Would recommend the short trail around the property too!

This is a really cool, fun and unique find. We loved it! Looked at stars, hiked, had a blast. I went with young children so for other moms considering - it’s a gem. But you need to bring pillows, towels, wipes etc. imagine you are actually camping. John is so kind and nice… don’t use waz or google maps follow John’s instructions getting to property. We will definitely be back, amazing experience!

Spectacular Mountain Getaway
Unique Mountain Log Cabin
There are a few basic campsites here, however my wife and I stayed in the mini cabin and enjoyed a spectacular view. The cabin is small just right for 2 people with all the amenities needed. This property is a gem and John is the kindest and caring host possible. I can not recommend this unique mountain getaway enough.
