Ohana Farms on Pender Island
The Perfect Basecamp on Pender
Wonderfully located in the centre of North Pender Island, Ohana Farms is a beautiful and unique place to set up basecamp for exploring the island.
A former grass airstrip beside a pond makes for the perfect spot to pitch a tent on the expansive and peaceful property. A few steps away is the old hanger, converted into an event space; host to weddings, concerts, or cornhole tournaments. Beyond the hanger is the gardens, stretching nearly all the way to the road, filled with beautiful dahlias and other flowers, plus a plethora of vegetables. At the road, the aforementioned flowers/veggies are sold in a farm stand (try the black garlic on bread!), accompanied by a taco truck. Chickens, pigs, some dogs, and a cow provide company, as do the wild birds rustling in the reeds bordering the pond.
Off the property, multiple restaurants and supplies are mere minutes away by foot, as is a beach and cidery. By bike/car, the island is extremely accessible to explore the many parks, hikes, beaches and other eateries. I enjoyed the sunset views of Mt. Baker from Gowland Point on South Pender, and highly recommend it.
Overall, your friendly host Aaron has made perhaps the best place to set up camp on the Island.
