Back to basics with endless desert sky. Hike giant rock sculptures, gather petrified wood, and splash in a hidden pond. Bathed in the Canyon's ethereal ambiance, powdery views of Navajo Plateau and snowy San Francisco Peaks await. This is “Stone Soup,” in honor of unique geology and a folktale where everyone brings something to make a whole greater than its parts. Built with love during musical campouts, materials are recycled from building sites, including solar panels and composting toilet. You could fit 3 in the house if you want to squeeze a little, and I can provide the extra bedding and also camping gear if more people want to camp (just ask). The site is 40 acres and can accommodate RVs too - the whole 40 acres will be just for your group! Also, possibility of musical, writing, and Earth-based spirituality workshops led by Kate, or to co-organize if you have a leader or idea - reach out if interested. Reasons to stay, in a few words: -Peace, quiet, and total escape -Ecology and good vibes -Solitude, intimacy, and authentic connection -Views! -Artistic, musical, literary creation, rock-gathering, photography, meditation… Away from the touristy side of the Grand Canyon, hike down the Tanner Trail, stop to buy crafts and food from Navajo artisans along the road, and the next day splash in the seasonal Little Colorado near Stone Soup, watch the wild horses, then come home and make a campfire and howl with the coyotes in this unique and sacred high desert spot. The house is 8 feet by 8 feet, so very cozy, sturdy, and weather-proof, paneled with wood chosen for the beautiful patterns. There is a one-person bed that can fold into a square if you want more space, or into a lounge chair. The second bed is a loft that can fold down from the wall under the window, and you can climb up the step ladder into it. Both beds have mattresses, sleeping bags, and pillows, either already on the bed or in a canvas bag in the house. A little red butane stove has two burners and an oven. As it is not meant to be used in closed spaces, you can take it outside or keep the door open when using. Cookware, plates, bowls, silverware, and things like oil and salt can be found on the shelves or hanging. The toilet is out back, a composting outhouse. There will be a large jug of water that you can use for drinking and washing, or you can drink the bottled water. There is also a very simple bag-style solar shower you might try. There is no running water. As for electricity, there is one solar panel with outlet and lamp. There is usually plenty to run a light for several hours in the evening, though this depends on the weather. (Just flick the switch on the black box marked "Jupiter") and turn on the light, and you can also plug your phone into the outlet in the upper corner. Fire-making supplies will be by the fire pit or just inside the house in a box. If any of that sounds confusing, just let me know!

Amazing little home in the middle of the desert. Very basic off grid set up but was comfy for our off grid crew. Be careful coming into the property as you go through native land. They can be a little not kind. We enjoyed rock searching and just chilling. Our dogs loved running the giant sand dunes that hide the home. It was great. We almost turned around at a weird windmill thing but keep going your almost there after you get through the next fence. 😊

It is very peaceful and quiet. Kate was very responsive and helpful because the directions as specific to the remote location. It is within an hour to Grand Canyon visitor center. However, if you have a bad back, are afraid of heights, or not petite, this may not be the site for you. Absolute must to get there before sundown because the site is somewhat hidden. While basic necessities are provided for, we recommend additional sleeping comfort items. The bathroom is rudimentary, so prepare for that.
