Casita at Shiloh Ranch in mountains
We stayed in the Casita at the Shiloh Ranch as a stopover on a camping trip, and it was a wonderful experience. It had a barrel smoker, which is my favorite type of BBQ grill, so we made hickory smoked chicken for dinner.
The ranch is remote, and the landscape is amazingly beautiful, with almost no light pollution. It rained when we stayed there, so we didn't get the view of the stars you would normally have there at night. But we did get to see a complete rainbow (both ends and the entire bow in the middle), which was doubled at either end. It was spectacular.
Sandee, the hostess, was wonderful. She has wonderful stories to tell.
Overall, I was sorry that we only booked one night. I'd like to go back and spend a week there, exploring the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert which are nearby, and enjoying the lovely view.

Shiloh Ranch Guest House
Disorganized and double booked.
We drove in from Phoenix, with a carful of groceries and other supplies, ready to stay in a cool cabin in a remote area. Spoiler alert – it didn’t end up working out that way.
The check-in time on Hipcamp was 2, she told us on the phone when we initially spoke that it was at 3, and we arrived at 4ish, we thought we’d given her plenty of time for our arrival.
We called the host when we arrived, as requested, but got her voicemail, followed by a text from the host that asked, “Can you call back later?” - we told her sure. We waited for about 20 minutes before texting her back to remind her that we had booked the guest house for the next two nights. No response. We waited about 15 minutes before leaving frustrated.
As soon as we left her property, she finally called us, and we had to explain who we were and which property we had booked. After being on the phone for several minutes, she realized that she had double-booked the guest house. Apparently, she has it listed on multiple sites.
Our only real option was to drive back to Holbrook, suddenly needing a new place to stay – not at all the relaxing time we had envisioned.
Because of all of this, we caution you if you’re going to stay at Shiloh Ranch. Also, fair warning - the guest house is right next to the main home on the property, so not nearly as private as the photos made it out to be.
Shiloh Ranch Guest House
Our stay at Shiloh Ranch Guest House began promisingly with its easy-to-find location amidst tranquil surroundings. The guest house itself boasted a well-appointed kitchen and restroom both of which were stocked with essentials, contributing to our initial impression of comfort and convenience. The efficient AC and fans ensured a pleasant temperature indoors, which was especially appreciated during the warmer hours of the day.
Upon arrival, host Sandee welcomed us warmly and provided helpful insights into local attractions and amenities. Her friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our stay and made us feel immediately at ease.
However, despite these positives, the cleanliness of the guest house left much to be desired. While superficially tidy, closer inspection revealed a concerning issue with rodent activity. Throughout our stay, we encountered both old and new mouse droppings in multiple rooms, indicating that thorough cleaning had not been conducted prior to our arrival. Furthermore, the presence of smouse traps confirmed that the host was aware of the issue, which was disappointing and unsettling.
While the guest house offers potential with its convenient location, well-stocked amenities, and friendly host, the cleanliness issues, particularly the unresolved rodent problem, are crucial aspects that need urgent attention. Addressing these concerns would undoubtedly improve the guest experience and ensure a more comfortable and hygienic stay for future visitors.

Desert Views
Amazing sunsets, sunrises, thunderstorms, everything! If you love the desert skies then Sandee's little ranch is the perfect destination. The ranch was covered in pieces of petrified wood that was fun to find and there was the cutest little firepit outside to stay warm and watch the stars.
The home itself was super clean and cozy, the bed was comfortable and Sandee keeps a wide array of entertainment! The Petrified Forest was super close by and was really amazing to cruise through.
Wished we could stay longer.
