Grand Canyon Dome (The Launch Pad)
Wonderful Hipcamp location. Very peaceful and well-appointed. The shower and toilet are better than you might imagine. Very clean and safe stop if you are coming through or need a spot to launch your Grand Canyon adventures without being surrounded by crowds in the public campgrounds. We arrived at night and the turn off was a little hard to see. Additionally, road to the spot is bumpy and should be fine for most cars, but be prepared to take it slow. Lastly, if arriving at night like we did, get a good look at the location on Google maps images from above. In the dark of night we stopped first at a nearby dome just across from the correct destination.

Awesome communication! Stars were AMAZING! Dome was clean and easy to access to unlock. Little chilly but the propane heater heats things up quickly. Lots of hand held light devices with extra batteries. The road going in it not paved and a little rough but if you take ur time you will be fine, we did it in a Tesla lol

Overall, we had a good experience staying in the Dome! It was our first “glamping” experience, and it was a little bit more rustic than expected but I thought that it was good for the price. The nights got very cold in the dome so the extra sleeping bags and the propane heater were essential!
The shower and bathroom are a bit rustic (outdoor shack), so if you plan to shower, be sure to get there during the day.
The dome is pretty remote minus two RVs 50 yards away and an airstream just next door. The long dirt roads to get to the dome are a bit bumpy with lots of potholes so a high clearance vehicle is definitely recommended!
Flying in from out of state, it was a bit hard to bring everything that we would have needed. Pack for a camping trip and you should be good to go!

This little dome was the perfect spot for a weekend at the Grand Canyon! The space was clean, the host was communicative, and we loved being off the grid for a bit!

The best part was definitely the night sky. We could clearly see the milky way and even some shooting stars. The dome is simple, but had everything that we needed. Christopher left extra blankets for us which we also used. Be prepared for it to get cold at night!
There was a clean outdoor toilet and a nice open air shower. After 3 people took a brief shower there wasn't any water left though.
At night the other guest who stayed in the trailer on the same property made a fire and we all enjoyed it together. There is also a simple grill that you can use.
All in all, it was a good experience. I would definitely visit again!

Overall I was very pleased with my stay at the dome. This dome is a very cool and spacious camping option. The bed was firm but comfortable. The outdoor shower would have been awesome if it had been working during my stay. The airstream has a very small shower, my boyfriend that’s 6ft tall could not stand up in the shower without bending his head. The dome is VERY warm during the summer days which was fine since we were gone sun up to sun down. There is very little lighting in the dome, luckily we had head lamps with us. Chris was quick to respond and when I had a few issues he did issue me a refund to attempt to make things right. (The space was not as clean and tidy as I was hoping it would be) This location is remote but their are several families living near by in rvs, we could hear them opening car doors every morning around 5:30am. I would recommend someone to stay here but only if the outdoor shower is in working order or you don’t plan to shower and don’t mind using a composting toilet.

Unique stay in this cool dome , but come prepared . Definitely need to take Christopher’s advice of what to bring . No real light in there so bring lantern and definitely bring lots of water . Didn’t trust cooking inside with propane stove so had to move table outside to cook on . Lovely open spot though and we did have good stay .

We loved our stay. The yert was stocked with items that made our trip run smoothly. (Propane, plates, water, paper towels, lights) the only thing is that it was cloudy so the solar panels that run the water pump were not powering it. 8.5/10

Chris was very nice and responsive, and overall we enjoyed our stay. The dome itself was a cool experience. A couple of things to keep in mind, the roof does leak if it rains, so you might have to shift the bed a little to keep it from getting wet. The pump for the water in the airstream worked for the first bit, but gave out, so I would recommend bringing more water than you think you will need in case this occurs again. Chris did send someone out to address it as soon as he could. Overall, we had a good time.

I loved staying at the Dome! The bed is comfortable and Chris provides any other things you need to make your stay comfortable including a fan or heaters if too cold. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. We had some difficulty the first night finding the right dome and Chris was quick to respond and provided great directions.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Grand Canyon Dome. It was easy to locate and not too from a convenience store. Christopher was quick to respond to our questions and made the stay relaxing! Also gave us an amazing recommendation (Bearizona!) on our way out. Inside of the dome was beautiful and had a lot of simple necessities if you forgot anything (paper plates, utensils, coffee grounds, French press, Coleman stove + propane tanks, basic condiments, germ-x). We have decided to plan another trip back out to the Grand Canyon and will definitely be booking this again. Also, the bed was insanely comfortable! We had a friend sleep on the couch (converts to about a full size I’d guess!), she said it was super comfortable as well!
It was so fun hanging outside of the dome enjoying the Milky Way overnight. We can go outside and see it here in Arkansas but have never been able to see it as bright and beautiful as we did staying here. Absolutely stunning.
I will definitely be recommending the dome for any friends and family members interested in going to see the Grand Canyon! I cannot say enough good things about this place!

Great place away from the summer heat of phoenix! We stayed only a night but utilized all the features of this awesome dome under the milky way! The host (Christopher) was great, efficient, and accommodating, considering we booked very last minute. Will be back soon! 😎

This dome was so much fun. Such a luxury after many nights in a tent. Stunning sunset, not too far from population and 2 big beds that fit 4 people easily. Christopher had the dome completely hooked up with a cooking grill, plenty of extra blankets, curtains for the morning and a privacy tent for changing. We loved this place.

I have glamped before and paid around the same price for a space that was mind-blowing.... this space was dangerous and dirty. Everything was under construction starting with the steps to get the yurt! The toilet was overflowing out the front with what I believe to be urine. There was trash everywhere on the property.
The space seemed to have been a half baked idea that never made it. The camp host didn't send me the instructions ahead of time as he said he would& we didn't know how to get in upon arrival. Or is we were at the right place.
*** I contacted the owner before sending this review. They seemed VERY unconcerned with the missing steps to the yurt, all of the trash and other safety issues. They say they have since 'fixed'the shower & toilet but when we arrived they told us they had just 'fixed' the toilet then as well.
This place was NOT worth more than $30 at the time of our stay.
The wonderful thing about our stay was the view of the sunset. The yurt is not position in a logical way to observe anything but the road& home across the street. It was a full moon that night & we could enjoy it from inside. You have to be outside to enjoy.

What an absolutely AMAZING experience this place was! Christopher has created a wonderful space that has the perfect balance between camping and comfort! The dome has everything you need, even a toilet! There were blankets aplenty for the freezing nights, fire pit amenities, and a restful, comfortable place to sleep for the night! We had one of the best nights ever here!

This was a fun unique place to stay. Beautiful landscape. Our family of 3 was comfortable and the place was cozy.
The front step inside the dome does not seem complete and in the dark could be a bit dangerous, we had to be very careful because there was a huge gap between the step and the floor of the entry to the dome. Shower that was offered in the description wasn’t complete when we were there but the host communicated promptly, offered other options and answered all our questions.

The dome is a fun and unique stay, with lots of details designed to help guests have a comfortable stay. However, a lot of these details are overshadowed by the composting toilet which creates an unpleasant smell in the tent. I knew to expect this based on other reviews, and it sounds like this was not the original set-up, but I would have much preferred it to be detached from the dome

Overall this was a fine place for our one-night stay. Chris, the host, was very nice. There was an issue with the space that was out of his control that he warned us about and handled well.
However, the space was not exactly as described in the listing. There is not a shower despite the listing saying there is. We were counting on there being a shower since we had a long hike that day. Instead, Chris gave us the name of a nearby facility with public showers, but it closed before we could get there.
There is also not an outhouse or toilet separate from the dome as described. This was due to a recent storm that damaged it. Instead, there is a compost toilet inside the dome with just a fabric privacy tent around it. While this is maybe more convenient than going outside, having the toilet right by the bed with limited privacy doesn’t make for the best ambiance and was a little uncomfortable.
I believe Chris is doing his best to make it work after the outside facility was destroyed, but we were not informed of these changes until the afternoon we checked in. If we had known about the inside toilet and lack of shower from the listing, we likely would not have booked it.

I gave this an average rating. Overall, the host/Christopher was very responsive and attentive to our needs. A+ on communication. When we raised issues, he did everything he could by phone to make us comfortable. He is a fair host.
What could make this listing better is an accurate photo and description of the dome and bathroom set-up. For e.g., few photos are outdated. Before booking, we were unaware of the toilet inside the dome. We traveled in a hot month and found that the entire dome smelled of toilet. Perhaps the dome was closed and unused for a long time. In cooler months, the issue may not exist. Seeing the other excellent reviews, this was surprising to find. (Disclaimer: I have never used a compost toilet, so if a strong smell is expected, disregard this note, and read the positive parts of the review :)...). however, the host was gracious enough to offer us an alternative stay, and refund part of the booking.
This place is excellent for campfire, and we stayed out at night enjoying the desert clear sky and stars! The host provided lights and flashlights to navigate the area at night which was helpful as we arrived after sunset. While there are other domes in the vicinity, the place also provides enough privacy as the other locations are not too close.

We loved staying in the dome! We only had one nearby neighbor and tons of open space! The starry night and sunrise make me wish we could have stayed another night! The dome is a such a unique camping experience! Highly recommended!

For a true camping experience in a desert location, I recommend this site. The bed was comfortable and it was nice having many camping amenities in the dome (including a compostable toilet with no smell!). Lovely view of the mountains, the night sky views were beautiful and 30 minutes from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. There is cell phone service as well. It gets cold in the desert at night so plan to use the propane heaters or wood pellet stove in the dome. The road to the dome is rough. We could get to the dome in our rental car but a 4 wheel drive is a better choice. A fun experience if you like glamping!

This was such a fun and unique experience! We loved the openness of the site, and at night the stars were breathtaking! The propane heaters did wonders for a comfortable sleep at night. I would recommend bringing lighters/matches and some headlamps/flashlights. Just an FYI the portable little toilet is inside the Dome.

Love the dome, the amenities that came with it. We used to telescope to watch the full moon and brought our woods to start the fire at the fire pit. It was a cozy night with 3 heaters on even it was 2C outside. We enjoyed the night as well as the gorgeous sunrise. Just the toilet outside the dome fell down so we had to use the one inside the dome. Not a big deal for our 1-night stay. 10/10 would be back again.

Nice stay in the middle of the distance from Williams AZ to Havasupai Indian reservation. Middle of nowhere, I stayed warm with up to 60 MPH winds, Christopher was a great host, answered all my questions! Would highly recommend if you are comfortable staying in the middle of the great vast Arizona! Will come back for sure!. This is the middle of the country, and if you like solitude, this is your place!

Truly a unique experience. Dome was clean and well stocked with propane to stay warm at night and other various things (like lanterns and bedding) to make the stay comfortable. Secluded, other than neighbors across the street (tended to themselves). Christopher was responsive and an excellent host.
