Sedona can be a very expensive place to stay, which makes this place a great option if you’re willing to rough it. What a great location and the land was very beautiful with a great view. Charles was a great host and really helped me out with providing me extra accommodations that I needed. I particularly loved how close this was to everything in Sedona.

Easy to find, nice sites, strong internet, friendly host, could take a nice walk right next to the campsite and see some wildlife. My only complaint was the sound from the highway. I would stay here again.

1 night at A Spark in the Dark Campground

Clifford was very inviting, even cautioning me about being stuck as it had rained for days. (The road is not for the faint of heart, just take it slow). He came out to greet me in the rain, and made sure I was welcomed and taken care of. In the morning the rain had mostly passed if you go you must take a walk and meditate in the garden. I saw a mule deer and later 3 pronghorns on the way out. It was exactly the wilding I needed

Weekend Trip to Naked Skull Campgrounds 21+ Only

It’s fate that you are looking at my review so now you need to follow thur and experience this place. Wow!!! My wife and I decided to go to naked skull to have an off grid experience. Our expectations were exceeded by 1000%. The grounds are simply amazing and breathtaking. Watching the wild horses roam the area from the hill tops is something you cannot explain just purely magical . All of the campsites are different and peaceful we changed sites when Donavin showed us around but would be happy to stay anywhere on the grounds. Campfires under the stars with more stars than anywhere I have camped in my life! It’s a stunning sky. We had just come from Sedona and naked skulls has sunsets that match Sedona.. if you are considering staying here I would highly recommend it in fact there is no way you should pass up the opportunity. We had planned on just spending our nights hanging together alone at our campsite but met another camper that was staying there and had a wonderful time talking by the campfire we were lucky to meet such an incredible guy. We will be back for a longer visit for sure everyone need to experience naked skulls at least once in their lifetime!!!

3 nights at Naked Skull Campgrounds 21+ Only

This was my first time at a Hipcamp and was pleasantly surprised. Actually, this place was nothing short of awesome. The hosts, Linda and Donavin, were over the top helpful, welcoming, and accommodating. Donavin provided an unexpected tour of the property upon my arrival, pointed out the highlights, and enumerated the local flora and fauna, including the wild mustangs. This 60 acre property is remote and relatively untouched which is a large part of its appeal. Adjoining properties are largely undeveloped, thereby giving a sense of the varied desert landscape as far as the eye can see. Some beautiful views are available from your campsite with Humphrey’s Peak (Arizona’s tallest at 12633 ft) to the south and the Colorado plateau to the north. The 7 mile road off of Route 89 to this location is unpaved, mildly rutted at times, but posed no problem at all. To navigate to this property, I would suggest using the provided Google map’s pin to avoid any confusion. As others noted, the stargazing is absolutely amazing, weather permitting. Most, if not all sites, have a fire ring and mine was provided with some firewood. I cannot overstate what a great time that I had conversing with wonderful and interesting couple that shared a campfire with me. All in all, a wonderful experience!

Charles was a welcoming, helpful, respectful and responsive host. It was exciting and rewarding to be a part of the volunteer radio watch program. Also there are beautiful plants and views from the property.

Weekend Trip to Grand Canyon Oasis High Desert Camp

Nice little park close to Wupakti National Monument, Sunset Crater, the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff. Quiet and clean. Right off the highway but the road noise was a non-issue for us. The dog park was a bit overgrown and the only real issue we had with the place was the stickers that got in our pups feet on a regular basis. Not sure how that can be rectified, certain areas are just prone to goats head weeds and other pokey weeds. There is an amazing walking path just outside the fence which was fabulous and went for miles, our fur babies could have walked for days and days into the National Forest! We would surely stay again and recommend it to friends or anyone passing through the area!

Weekend Trip to Grand Canyon Oasis High Desert Camp

We are new to Hipcamp. We are on our first long trip since retirement. We wanted to be near Flagstaff to be close to many places around Flagstaff that we wanted to see, so the Grand Canyon Oasis sounded inviting. Im not going to lie, it said just north of town… and it is… but leaving Flagstaff to the north on 89, we realized it was 24 miles out of town. Just north of town you crest a hill and see nothing but a vast landscape of beautiful high desert an a very long straight away downhill. No sign of civilization at all. So my wife and I are thinking hmmmm! Several miles later we come over a crest and see a couple buildings. Alas, we are here. After some looking we saw the path between the buildings to the campground, plenty of maneuvering room and well marked, we made our way to site #6. We face way from the highway giving us the most expansive view of high desert as far as the eye could see. Wonderful to see that. The campground only has about ten sites or so and many have tiny houses already set up for those without an RV. The campground was covered with 1/4” red lava rock. No mud, no potholes, all good. I’ll stay here again if I ever get back this way despite my initial thoughts. In fact we extended two more days! We day tripped to Sedona, Winslow, Prescott, and of course the big one, the Grand Canyon. The only downside to here would be that if you plan to imbibe in some drinks in town, this is not the place. Thumbs up from us!

Weekend Trip to Sacred Springs

Sacred Springs is the perfect camping spot, minutes from Sedona. We brought our Winnebago View RV for the first night on our Arizona road trip and this place is amazing! Gary and Daren have designed each site with plenty of space and seating areas, and the community room has every amenity you need: coffee, tea, a hot plate, cookware, cutlery, a refrigerator for each campsite, gas grill and so much more! The property itself has luxurious bathrooms, a solar shower, and thoughtfully designed sitting areas dispersed throughout. Then there's the peaceful creek area, again with multiple places to sit and enjoy this beautiful area, plus kayaks, paddle boards and other fun water toys. We wish we'd planned more days here to take advantage of all this well-appointed property has to offer. Thank you Gary and Daren!

Great spot to pitch a tent for a night. Quite, small, clean, nice spots, helpful host, very clean port-a-johns. Host is clear with directions, suggests things to do nearby. All in all a great experience. I would rather stay someplace like this vs. a huge, public campground.

This was my second time there and it was better than the first. Linda and Donavin are wonderful down to earth people that will help any way they can. Donavin comes by every day to check if everything’s okay. The property is so vast you can take a new path every day and see something different. I will definitely return as soon as I can

4 nights at Beall's Bed & Bud's

We stayed at site #2 with a 14ft trailer. The Good: Easy to park the trailer, great views, Paula is a great host, she is working on a structure which we used with a line to hang some towels. The Bad: The road in is very rough! We travelled slowly while towing, but it was OK enough to drive out and back with our truck. We left early due to forecasted high winds, so not a site problem but something to consider for Winslow. The Ugly: The restrooms needed cleaning, we opted to use our own camp toilet.

Vicky's land is beautiful! There are so many things I loved about it. It's only for vans, tents and cars. It's close to Historic Cottonwood, a very cool, clean, and vibrant shopping district. Yet, it's surrounded by nature. The campsites are cleared, level, and separated by trees, like a traditional, old campground. She provides perfect directions and instructions, as well as water, firewood, and VERY clean port-a-potties. The hand-painted signage and the Teepee add to the charm. #7 is the best camp site in my opinion, because it's under a very old cottonwood tree. When it Cottonwood... 😉

I then made fire pit an after that I built an outhouse its a restroom so of the guest don't know what an outhouse is we tell them it doesn't take no water to flush. After that I built a wooden fence around the whole campsite from horses a cows get into our property. So that how I started a campsite. Now our guests love our campsite a some of them came back an we have a short hiking trail to the rims to overlook the whole valleys its beautiful to take pictures from there. The Campsite is 10-15 mins to the Valley View of the Famous Monuments and close to Navajo Tribal Park. Access to Restroom (Outhouse) within the site. Guest can request Navajo Taco Dinner with Navajo Tea for extra cost to enlighten their stay here in Beautiful Monument Valley. Guest can bring pets as well. We are pet friendly and have two well behaved dogs name spike and diamond. Also we rv size will be 25 ft long .. 30 ft. Long is going to button out on the cattle guard.

When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk.
