A spacious backyard offers a private bathroom and fire pit with room for an RV trailer (up to 34 feet), van, or a tent. This is urban camping. Walk or ride your bike to 4th Ave and downtown. Cruise along the Santa Cruz River bike path while the sun sets pink and orange over the Tucson Mountains. Peruse shops, restaurants, and museums, all accessible on foot. For outdoor adventure, Tucson's terrific hiking, climbing, and mountain biking are all available within a short drive, while the best Mexican food is just down the street. This backyard campground is completely fenced off directly behind the main house. It is accessed through the main house's secure gate, down the driveway, and through a second gate enclosing the campground. Currently, the Northern Cardinal is the only site, so the campground is private. Our neighborhood, Barrio Ochoa, is just outside of Tucson's downtown and within walking distance to many great places. It is, however, a normal urban neighborhood, and some of the neighbors occasionally play music once or twice a week that can be heard in the campground until 11 pm or so. Otherwise, it is quiet and peaceful.

We can’t get enough of this place
Yet another great stay at Ochoa — our favorite base camp in one of our favorite cities. As always, Jeff was accommodating and helpful. He gave me a place to store my bike out of the rain, toilet paper just appeared in the bathroom right before it ran out, and helped us receive our packages safe and sound.

Great safe yard, awesome location
This was my 2nd time staying at Jeffrey’s camp. The location can’t be beat for the gem show! Jeffrey keeps the yard neat & tidy, the outhouse (flush toilet!) was spotless, and he’s added a picnic table which is a great idea. I don’t remember if it has a hole in the center for an umbrella, but if it does, I will try to remember to bring an umbrella next time I stay there. This time the neighbor’s dogs were kind of barky, I’m sure the smell of my dog, and the sounds I was making triggered them. But I’m surprised the neighbor allows them to carry on for so long! There is one area of the yard that is pretty bad for goat heads. For whatever reason, that’s where my dog wanted to hang out the most, so I pulled a lot of goat heads out of her paws. I don’t know any way of dealing with them other than waiting until they sprout and pulling the weeds before they have a chance to go to seed. There are some old nails and screws in the dirt in the yard, not on the nice gravel pad Jeffrey made for rigs to park on, but due to the length of my van I have to drive around on the dirt to get to the pad. I threw away a couple dozen, next time I will definitely remember to bring my big magnet to do a sweep before driving in. I think that when it rains, more get uncovered. Overall, it’s a great safe place when you need a spot to park it, and have access to a flush toilet, water spigot, and RV sewer dump. Because it’s fully fenced, my dog could be off leash, which she appreciated.

His place was located close to hiways and downtown and the Tucson Gem Show while we were there. Its functional and well kept with secure gates. Good food within walking distance further adds to its appeal

City Van Life Heaven
Jeffs place is in a very cool part of Tucson. A 20min walk / 5min bike and you’re at one of the nicest cafes in Tucson. Great for working. The best Mexican food in town is here: and also a short bike away is the best vegan Mexican restaurant in the country (according to Yelp) : Tumerico. Jeff’s backyard is a perfectly put together van life haven. It’s safe and gated and has the nicest outhouse I’ve ever experienced. Cell signals are strong, vibes are chill, and Jeff is the man.

Exactly as advertised. This is a very convenient site, walking distance to downtown. Very clean and secure. Warm welcome from Jeffrey and his dad David. We highly recommend.

Great for van dwellers and dogs
This was a wonderful respite from the city. The backyard is totally private, gated, and cleverly outifitted for campers. The host was friendly and helpful. I would definitely want to stay here again, anytime I need to be close to town.
