Larry & Sheila are fantastic hosts. RV sites were spacious enough that we also could put up our tent. Lots of shade kept the heat at bay. Facilities are clean and convenient and the proximity to the water was great for the kids. We are glad to have found this place, enjoyed the seclusion of the camp, and will definitely be back!

Blackwater Getaway LA JOELLEN Cabin
We lucked out here. We had a quiet weekend (as you can with THREE boys 12,13,13). Sheila and Larry were so friendly, they stopped in a bit after we arrived. We were able to chat a bit while we were allowing the boys to be boys… sometimes it’s hard to be able to. It was so refreshing for me to enjoy nature and let the boys do the work and run like heathens for once. We will most definitely be back to this beautiful piece of property.

Camped Valentine’s weekend… Lots of space. When we got there, someone else was in our space, #2, so we had to go to space #1, which is right in front of the pavilion. While I did not care for that so much, it ended up being fine. The owner, Larry, greeted us upon arrival and was helpful in getting us parked correctly. All hookups were great. Clean bathroom and outdoor shower. Loved loved this shower!!!!! Quiet and peaceful. Be careful getting down to the spots as the road is a bit bumpy. Few steps down to the river where you can relax and fish/swim. Pavilion has an outdoor sink/tables/chairs/smoker-grill. All in all a very nice time…..thank you, Larry, for our sticker!

HUNTER’S SPECIAL
A paradise away from the city! We loved at our stay at this beautiful property. The river and pavilion area are wonderful and it is isolated. We especially loved the hunters special spot because it was nestled amongst the trees not far from the main road but far enough to be private. Larry and Sheila are top notch individuals and made sure we where taken care of. Their hospitality and kindness made the stay even better. We highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a getaway or somewhere close to the beach without the traffic and business. We intend to stay again!

Lovely camping spot, and the host was accessible and helpful. Site #1 is right in front of the communal area which has plenty of space for guests of site 1 and 2, as well as a clean toilet and outdoor (but private) shower. Beautiful view of a river bend and easy access if you want to jump in. If you are dependent upon having cell signal or wifi continuously, this may pose a problem. I found it refreshing to unplug, but my companion runs an AirBnB herself and needed to be available. She had to walk up by the hosts home to use the wifi (they give you the PW upon arrival). GPS did not get us all the way there. For some reason it had us stop at 2002 Blackwater Rd. If yours stops you there, you should keep going. Blackwater Getaway is marked with a blue sign with a Sasquatch, and has the address on the sign. Once you turn in you will pass a couple of dwellings before coming to the house where the hosts live. The camping sites are all the way back.

This is an excellent site! We loved the river, the space, the RV FHU spot, and the pavilion! The pavilion was just fantastic and comfortable! It was extremely private and easy to find with the hosts’ directions. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Larry, and I loved my slow meandering morning walk with our pup. Through no fault of the hosts, it rained most of Saturday. However, we had the rain insurance and it automatically paid out Sunday morning! We definitely want to come back and have already suggested it to several others!

HUNTER’S SPECIAL
Beautiful property, we stayed up the hill but the area by the water is wonderful, quiet, secluded. Water was nice and cool on a hot day, we spent most of the day lounging and tossing a football around in the white sand blackwater. I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone wanting to get away and enjoy the quiet of nature in Alabama. I would stay at #2 by the water, great for working from the rv and it's perfect setup for starlink as well. Getting from the top of the hill to the bottom. May be challenging for some low clearance vehicles but I'm sure if u take it slow and have 4 wd should not b an issue.

Blackwater Getaway Whole Site/Cabin
Our group of friends have rented the entire place multiple times, this time, including the cabin (which did not disappoint – it’s very nice). As always, a great experience and fabulous hosts!

We go every chance we can . The remodel of the recreational area is Awesome. Thank you for making the place so comfortable. Always friendly helping any way possible. This is really the Best place to be for outdoor adventures.

Great woodland hideaway The pictures and listing do not make it clear that the listing sits on the owner’s property. The hosts were great but I may have chosen differently knowing this. I double checked after my stay but this isn’t explicitly stated. The remote getaway aspect is dampened by that but otherwise great. Thank you

Stayed there 3 nights and had an amazing time! Campsite was right by the sandy river and the pavilion offered the perfect hang out spot! Hot shower and clean bathroom. The communal pavilion and two campsites are very close to each other but we were the only ones there at this time and had lots of privacy! Larry & Sheila were very communicative and nice. Would definitely come back

What a great spot, and even better hosts! We didn’t get a chance to meet Sheila, but Larry was there to greet us upon arrival, and checked in with us in the morning. Super friendly and hospitable! He shared knowledge about the property, the region, and some of the animals that inhabit the area. Very cool! We had the entire property/ site to ourselves for the night, and what a beautiful evening. Spent time in the field star-gazing, then sat by the fire for dinner. The sounds were alive at night and all around. Insects, dogs, coyotes, and who knows what else! Very pleasant though and nothing to be afraid of! Larry assured us of our safety when chatting in the morning. The river was very calming and we enjoyed breakfast on the “beach”. Larry shared that the tea-colored water (Blackwater!) is dyed by the roots of the Cypress trees, but is safe to play in as it’s tested annually. Was a bit too chilly for us, but maybe next time! We highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a unique camping experience. While we were set up for primitive camping, we did take advantage of the extremely clean bathroom, but not the shower which looked equally clean and inviting. Other great amenities like firewood for sale from their son, a pavilion, trading post, and water and power for RV hook-ups. Everything you need for a great camp! Thank you again Sheila and Larry!

Very enjoyable relaxing stay, we tent camped right on the sand by the creek. Very nice having the covered pavilion, seating and tables, bathroom and shower, sink and electricity! Very friendly and helpful hosts. Beautiful surroundings, our kids loved the creek and the pond full of tadpoles. Strongly recommend.

HUNTER’S SPECIAL
Our stay at Sheila and Larry's land was great. We booked the hunters special site with our 20ft travel trailer which was nice with full hookups. The pavillion down by the river was really nice and we spent most of our time there relaxing by the water. Loved the bathroom and hot water shower and the availability of firewood with an honors box. It was very quiet there too, which was exactly what we needed for the weekend.

This place was a perfect spot for a family to get out and spend time in nature without missing your essentials. Clean, safe and soooo pretty! The land owners came to meet us after arrival and were wonderful people to talk to. We already have plans to come back very soon!
