Come experience the intoxicating beauty and peace of Summer Shoals. Fall asleep to the sound of the rushing waters, rise early and enjoy the sunrise over the river with a cup of campfire coffee in hand. Relax, as relaxation was meant to be. A splash in the river could mean a few deer have come out of the shadows of the forest to play and drink of the cool water, or perhaps that splash is one of our local eagles grabbing breakfast in the morning fog. The Daniel Boone offers 708,000 acres amazing hiking within walking distance of your campsite! Our property offers creekside, riverside or mountain backwoods campsite locations. You may camp anywhere you like. Come experience being surrounded by nature. The shallow and crisp water of the Shoals provides an ideal smallmouth habitat. The soothing sound of the rapids will lull you to sleep as you relax on the bank day or night. We are nestled away within the Daniel Boone National Forest, approximately 13 miles upriver of the breathtaking Cumberland Falls State Park. Come enjoy a primitive camping experience you will not soon forget. There is also a Mennonite vegetable/baked good farm up the street for tasty pies, breads and in season vegetables. A custom butcher about 5 miles up the road can provide your campfire steaks and burgers. Bagged ice and firewood are available onsite and locally. Gathering of dead firewood is always permitted and encouraged. Free fire rings and cooking grates provided. RATES 12.00 PER PERSON, per night to tent camp.. To encourage a quality family camping experience children 12 and under camp with their parents at NO CHARGE. Just make sure to indicate your children's ages when you register. Happy camping! I had taken our four boys (9, 7, 3, 2) camping at some campgrounds, but this was our first time using Hipcamp. I couldn't be more pleased with our experience. We came after Labor Day for two nights, so we were the only tent campers in the regular area. We spent time on the river catching minnows, whirlygig beetles, and a dobsonfly larva in our net. We also hiked along the creek that fed into the river. The boys loved the big hill! And we stopped at the waterfall on private property (with directions from Jim), and it was the COOLEST place for the boys to romp around. We really, really enjoyed ourselves!

We had no cell service (no surprise), but Jim let us use his Wifi so I could contact my husband to let him know we made it there safely. I appreciated that. I did feel safe the whole time, even though there weren't many others around. I was a little nervous about being in bear country, but we were careful to clean up food and keep trash contained, and we had zero problems with any animals. And I was thankful that the porta-potty was clean with a solar-light at nighttime. It's good to be able to spot poison ivy; it's impossible to eradicate on that much land, but we avoided it when we saw it, and thankfully, no one got any rash.

The waterfall on nearby private property (ask Jim for directions)Beautiful! The creek leading into the riverGod's beautiful playground!

It was absolutely wonderful! Jim and Lora were very kind and helpful and we had a great time hiking to the waterfall and on the river. Using the tubes on a hot day was a great experience and tent camping on the river was lots of fun! The cabins were great too, well kept and cool at night. Had a good time meeting their dog and the chickens!

My family had a blast. Property is clean and kept up. We especially loved being so close to the water so our kids could tube and splash around. Great for primitive camping.

When we decided to go camping by Cumberland Falls we knew we wanted something semi-private since we were camping with 3 kids and 2 dogs so we were so excited about Summer Shoals. When reading the reviews we thought there was no way it could live up to what everybody was saying but our experience was better then we could have imagined! The owners were wonderful and just went above and beyond to make sure our trip was perfect and the propery is beautiful!! We loved our "private beach" and our kids had the best time running around and fishing! Caught some huge catfish! Great place to stay! We will definitely be back soon!!
