Located right on the Cumberland River Bank with approximately 212 picturesque private acres to explore. This river cottage provides exclusive access to the Upper Cumberland River and only 13 miles up seam from Cumberland's Falls State Park by kayak or canoe. This cottage is uniquely located, providing privacy and peaceful enjoyment of acres of forest and the Cumberland River. Weekend getaways or longer stays on this property provide opportunities for hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and fishing. The opportunities are truly as endless as the available trails traveled in search of deer, black bear and elk, fisherman returning to camp with a Kentucky Spotted Bass or "tall tale", and nature enthusiasts still stunned to have witnessed the American Bald Eagle while canoeing or kayaking the Cumberland. Nearby rock walls and steep inclines tempt adventurous hikers and welcome both amateur and skilled rock climbers. On land or water, you'll be greeted by a host of colorful birds, see sun soaking reptiles, spook wild turkey and other game birds, witness the American Bald Eagle and other predator birds and spot black bears. Access to this cabin is by a dirt/grass road. If the weather is rain or snow the access will be muddy. We can take you to the Hideaway by 4x4 if need be at no extra cost just as a service. A sturdy Sawmill Rough Sawn Bunk Bed, picnic table, trash bag and fire ring is available on site. You may harvest the "dead trees" for firewood.  We are located on The Peaceful Side of the Upper Cumberland River, the side that is known for relaxation, hiking, horseback riding, fishing and photography. We also have a golf course in our little town! Our goal is for our campers to have a great experience while experiencing our National Forest, Cumberland Falls State Park and so much more!  The Hideaway is off the beaten path, out of the way, not central, private, not public and away from the touristy area. Covid-19 is a major concern in the touristy campgrounds and this site is WAY-OUT of any of that. When you arrive, we have already used a disinfectant on all high touch surfaces in this cabin, including bunk-bed, doorknob, picnic table, etc.. Due to Covid you must bring your own sleeping gear. “People are so cooped up inside, getting the mental break outside is so important." Shinrin-yoku is the name given to the Japanese art of “forest bathing,” contemplative walks through the woods that reconnect the individual with nature and can lead to decreased stress, natural mood elevation and even a stronger immune system. This means of mobile meditation has been recognized by the Japanese government since 1982 and has been endorsed by the Forest Agency of Japan as a means of improving quality of life. The practice can be a natural way to combat the toll of stress and anxiety, and this holds equally true for COVID-19.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway River Cottage a week ago! I know we were a pain because my husband and I had different arrival times and both arrived much later than anticipated but Patrick was so pleasant and kind. With the cold temps I'm so glad we brought a propane heater but I hear you can also rent one from the hosts. The shack and pit toilet were both clean and the shack was insulated. There was plenty of deadfall firewood around and we enjoyed a drivable sized hiking trail that lead right from the shack along the river to another hammock shack camp site. The other site was far enough away that our dogs could run and play without me worrying they'd disturb anyone. The river was beautiful but disappointingly hard to access. Even though the campsite is right next to it, the bank drops off steeply in both directions so neither we nor the dogs could just climb out of bed and jump in the water like I'd imagined. The wooded area is just gorgeous but you do hear traffic from the highway pretty clearly. We'll be back I'm sure but may try a different site and bring kayaks to be able to enjoy the water (I hear Patrick knows some great routes!).

I enjoyed my stay very much. Patrick’s hospitality was more than exceptional! The hideaway is a great place to disconnect and feel like you’re off grid but not actually be off grid, It’s secluded by the river. I did the 12 mile kayak trip and it was amazing!(4.5 hrs) Patrick’s trail suggestion and directions were phenomenal when it came to going to Cumberland Falls. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away. This is a quiet place to relax and not be around a bunch of partying by the river. I’m grateful to be able to have stayed there.

The hideaway was exactly that: very private, peaceful, and quiet. They were very hospitable, and having a built shelter with the expectation of rain was so much better than sleeping in a soggy tent. All amenities were available on property, and the fire wood was a life-saver in the rain.

It was very close to the Falls, and right on the river. Highly recommend if you want to see the sights but also be able to retreat from the crowds!

Wonderful young couple, very nice and polite even with all the lightning, thunder, rain, heavy winds and the rising river. You two are more than welcome to come back anytime. Take Care!

LOVED IT! I felt welcome from the time I arrived. Patrick is a great host and the property is awesome. There are many trails and easy river access. There are many things to do in the area and Patrick is more than happy to give you recommendations. The cottage is no frills, but has river view from thenfront door. It was exactly what I needed!
