This picturesque campground has secluded campsites, all along an amazing horseshoe bend of the Saline River, each with direct river access. And, we're only a short drive north of Hays, Kansas, and very convenient to I-70, being only about 20 minutes away.
This listing is for our primitive sites, which do not have power or water (water is available on request). There are a total of 9 sites, grouped into three different locations:
Sites 20 (South Beach) and 22 (Lucky Lady) - These sites are located right at the sharp bend of the Saline River. In addition to being picturesque, the has deposited an immense amount of sand, creating a wonderful beach area. These sites are perfect together for larger groups traveling together who don't need powered sites.
Sites 30 (Raccoon Run) and 32 (Twisted Sister) - Located on the river near the house and historic blockhouse and rock corrals, these two sites are secluded and private. Best access is by a car, but we can get an RV down there too. Bring some river shoes to go wading!
Sites 40 (Limestone Echo), 42 (Cedar Grove), 43 (Battle View), 44 (North Beach), and 45 (Custer Crossing) - You say you want to be on the river, right at the foot of 150' tall limestone cliffs?? You will LOVE any of these 5 sites. See the pictures for a glimpse of what to expect, but you'll still have a hard time believing your eyes when you pull up. Absolutely the best camping spots in Kansas!

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We had such a relaxing & peaceful time camping on Chad & Cynthia's land. Our primitive site was so absolutely beautiful. We woke up the first morning to cows drinking nearby from the river. They were so much fun to watch!
The directions were spot on & they were both very kind & responsive to our needs.
The restroom is a porta potty, but it was seriously the cleanest, non smelling porta potty I have ever experienced. It's a bit of a hike so plan accordingly 🙂
There is a beautiful lake & state park nearby, & we explored the town of Nicodemus as well. It's a walking, reading tour & 2 of the buildings were open to go in. We were fortunate enough to be there when the descendants of the town were having a meeting. They made us feel very welcome. The history of Nicodemus is inspiring. We learned a documentary is underway in about a year. I would highly recommend it!
Remember to keep food packed away...we forgot & were sitting at the campfire when the cutest raccoons helped themselves to our blueberry muffins. They left the package behind the old cottonwood (I think?) tree. As long as your food's put up you won't have any problems.
We had a wonderful time & booking for next year!
Relaxing spot in kansas
Great space just as described. Had a quiet evening with a beautiful sunset followed by the calls of many nearby coyotes. Stream was running pretty low, and frequented by cows (it is a working farm after all) so not really a swimming area, but still nice setting. The limestone cliffs with the resident Rock Doves was picturesque. It was a little buggy at night, but nothing the smoke from a small campfire (free firewood provided) could not handle. Chad met us on arrival and got us quickly to our selected site.
Very open and peaceful!! Loved that we were able to have our dogs. Chad and Cynthia were so nice with getting us firewood and even filled our solar shower a couple times. Definitely can’t wait to go again!
This was a great spot. Beautiful, clean, fun to explore with my dogs. Check in was easy. I didn’t actually wind up staying the night because I arrived earlier than anticipated and was wide awake so I decided to keep driving. But this was a nice way to break up the drive and would serve as a great place to camp in the future.
We had a great time camping and exploring! Chad and Cynthia were very accommodating, we appreciated the check-in process/getting aquatinted with the site. We’ll be back for sure - gorgeous scenery and a quiet place to relax.
Enjoyed our stay! Chad was very responsive and met us to show us to our camp site. Beautiful view of the limestone and river. Other camp sites are nicely spaced so we didn’t really see or hear other folks. Overall an easy camp stop on our road trip from the east coast to Denver.
Quiet, beautiful and peaceful
What a beautiful place! Very quiet and peaceful. Chad and Cynthia met me on arrival and showed me the campsite. I stayed at site 45, Custer Crossing, and especially loved the colorful critters in the trees. :-)
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
