The original "campground" on our property, this site is a lovely clearing among cedar trees with all the undergrowth and low branches removed. Plenty of space, a picnic table, and a private fire ring make this a quiet, peaceful, and private camsite.

Secluded and peaceful.
Our camping spot was very secluded and spacious which was nice. The closest building to this site is up the hill a bit and has great restroom amenities. I thought we would be able to see the lake from the site but it is around the bend from the lake view. The site had a lot of broken glass scattered all over it so watch out for that if you have pets or young children who hate shoes. Overall, it was a good experience and I would stay here again! Bonus: the stars were seriously amazing.
Aug 2020 trip
Overall, we had a good experience at this site as what we were mainly looking for was a peaceful place to get away. The site is private, only neighbors were those at the ORV trails and those staying in the lodge (where the restrooms are), though neither ever came by our site. The site has lots of trees (perfect for hammocks), a nice open space around the fire pit for star gazing, and multiple flat spaces for tents. The only downside to the site is that there is glass everywhere. So much so that I’m honestly not sure what could be done to remove it. This poses a problem for little ones that like to explore freely or maybe that drunken friend that can’t stay upright.
The walk to the bathroom is probably farther than you want to make in the middle of the night, but it was so nice to have real toilets, showers, and toiletries at our disposal. The host was very responsive when one of the toilets went down and fixed it and notified us immediately. Make sure to keep the lights off and the door closed when not in use or the bugs will take over.
The only disappointment for this trip was that there really was no safe access to the lake. We chose the site partly because it listed swimming close by and it was really hot. However, we tried several of the local state park sites within 10 mins of the site and were never able to find access to the water. Maybe at other times in the year with higher water levels, it’s more accessible, but the only thing we found were huge drop offs and pretty swift water.
Overall, I would camp here again, but my expectations of activities would be different. If you’re just looking for a peaceful place to relax, this was great, and if you’re coming to the ORV site this would be an excellent base camp.
Hammocks for days
The campsite is down a small dirt road from a lovely venue with beautiful prairie grasses and flowers (my little Hyundai Elantra had no issues on the road). Lots of cedar trees for cover and perfect hammock spacing, but there was broken glass around the site. Bathrooms on site are a short walk uphill and really nice, outfitted with everything you need. No lake access from the site, but the state park is very close. Host was very responsive and kind. You may have neighbors at the venue, but the camp site feels nicely secluded. ORV area nearby was not bothersome and respected quiet hours.
This campsite was everything we’d hoped it would be. Drew was responsive, friendly, and informative. The site was spacious and we were able to relax during our one-night stay. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and the best part is the view that you get when you take a short hike around the property.
This site was perfect for me, just about half an hour off I-70 so close enough not to feel like I was going out way of my way but far enough that I felt like I was actually camping, not just sleeping next to a highway. The host was great, met me right as I arrived and took me straight to the spot. The property is beautiful! It was quiet and peaceful, really private. The bathroom was a short walk away, sparkling clean and with hot water- amazing!
Peaceful pit stop
Perfect spot to camp while driving through the area. Ton of space and total privacy. Drew met me upon arrival, was very responsive made me feel safe and welcome. I’ll be back for sure!
This was my first time using Hipcamp and it was terrific. I was desperate to avoid staying a hotel as I'd been traveling cross country and camping the whole way. Drew was extremely helpful and the site was beautiful, private, and very safe. As a woman traveling alone this was really important to me. The setting near a reservoir was lovely.
Stayed with the family at the site. Very quiet on a weekday, just what we were looking for. It is a primitive site but there is access to a good bathroom and shower just up the hill, handy if you have kids. The site is about a 30 min drive from the dam.
