Places to see near Windy Goat Acres
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Such an amazing place tucked away in the Iowa River valley. Friendly, pettable animals; a cozy cabin; whimsical outdoor nooks and hiding places for reading, painting, or contemplation; fun and delicious extras to order; art everywhere - what more could you ask for? And all at a very reasonable price. Worth being a loyal repeat costumer even if prices increase in the future - after all, it takes Jess & Jim a lot of labor and love to keep the place as welcoming and well-managed as it is.
Windy Acres is a fantastic place to stay — if you have the chance to, you absolutely should!
This was my second time staying on Jessica and Jim’s cozy and charming farm. Drive a few miles off a small highway until you can only hear cicadas and crunching gravel, then follow the path to their house and park outside a little cabin lit with fairy lights. Sleep on the most comfortable mattress (that I’ve ever tried, anyway), wake up to roosters crowing and sunrise peeking up over the apple trees. Have some coffee and commune with potbelly pigs, chickens, alpacas, horses, rams, cats, and, of course, goats. Don’t be like me, and eat canned soup for four days straight while driving across the country. Instead, be like Jessica, who can make even simple things into works of art. Ask her to make you fresh-baked focaccia (fluffy! Warm out of the oven! With mushrooms and tomatoes and cheese!), and a charcuterie picnic. I thought I had woken up from a Progresso-nightmare in heaven: the picnic was so elegant, so thoughtfully and beautifully laid out that I almost regretted eating it. Almost.
Jessica and Jim are fantastic. You’ll love Windy Acres. If the repeat-reviews and repeat-entries in the guestbook attest to just one thing, it’s that you’ll want to come back again.
Peaceful + magical farmland oasis
What a fantastic place! Full of fun amenities, mowed trails to wander, and all the animal friends you could ever hope to meet. We loved our stay and cannot wait to come back next year!
Peaceful weekend getaway!
This place was awesome! Jessica and Jim were great hosts. We got to check out all of the animals and get to know the place. The cabin was really clean and cozy. The shower and bathroom were well kept and close to the cabin. The cabin had AC and that was really great when it got hot during the day. The property has trails and all sorts of stuff to check out while you’re there. The area is really pretty with a lot of rolling farm land.
Lots of baby goats this time!!!
Seriously love it here! First time I stayed there were no baby goats, but lots of pregnant mammas, this time there were 12 when I arrived and 15 by the time I had left, need I say more! Doesn’t get much better!
Nice spot for a weekend staycation!
Great little hobby farm to spend a few nights on. Our five year old was thrilled to pet goats, horses, llamas, and pigs. She loved the peacock ducks and chickens. Overall a great little adventure for our family. They had two twin beds and we brought a twin sized air mattress for the kiddo to sleep on. There was a small ac/heater for climate control. We enjoyed a small hike around the farm and love to discover the different hidden gems the host had all around. We had great conversations with the hosts. Looks like they plan on having a larger camping area with more cabins and yurts in the future. We will enjoy being able to return soon!
What a magical place!
What a Magical and eclectic place! I highly recommend a visit if not an extended stay. Within minutes of arriving I got to hold a baby goat just born a few hours prior. Josie, my dog and I, got two roam with horses, hang out with pigs, see ducks, visit goats, spot a peacock, wake up to a rooster call, and greet a sweet dog! The cabin is so comfortable and very clean. We were provided games, books and a record player along with so much more. There was no way of being bored. The grounds have hidden gems, not to mention great photo ops. Everywhere I turn I felt like I uncovered something new and wonderful. The owners were very thoughtful and always available if I need anything. I sadly didn’t get to stay as long as I wanted to but highly recommend stopping by at the very least. I can’t wait to go back with friends. This place has to be shared.
