It was a nice place for a road trip stop. I believe there were five gravel spots right next to each other and we had to put our tent on the gravel. Glad we were the Only ones there that night. The walk to the lake/pond was pretty and it was a nice spot to view some wildlife. But it was def. Too scummy to swim in no matter where and our girls were disappointed. We like lake swimming too. I wouldn't recommend for a long term camping getaway but fine for a quick stop. Not too far off the highway and near Lafayette.
What a hidden gem!
This little 5 space private campground is just a 15 min diversion if you are transiting north or south on I65 between Chicago and Indianapolis.
Well worth it!
First - the 'goods!'
-Extremely large gravel pads. You can easily get a 40' rig in the spots and leave your tow vehicle attached. Each spot has a picnic table and fire ring.
- Lovely lake that you can walk around and TWO sandy beach swimming areas. Our teens went straight in and really enjoyed the relaxing cool-off in July.
- Walking trails. The owner has cut many paths through this fairly young fallow meadow. These are not groomed paths but you aren't wading thru thigh high grass either.
- pet friendly.
- solitude. You are in the country. No highway or train track to ruin your tranquility. Very relaxing.
Now the 'others'. Not really others but just things you should know.
As of Jul '22
- no water on site. Fill up your jugs or your fresh tank before you leave the freeway. Southbound I65 has Loves truck stop. Notjing at the Rensselaer exit when north bound.
-single porta potty. It was clean and worked as advertised! But it is a porta potty...
- No electric
- Gravel country road to get to the private drive. Just take it slow.
- Drainage on paths around pond is so so. We were here after a lot of rain and had to pick our way around a lot of puddles to walk the trails.
Overall - worthy of Five Stars if rustic private camping is your thing. We hate the commercial grumpy overpriced
Cute but needs a little more work
I love the idea of this place, quiet, and cute. My only complaints is there wasn’t a place to properly wash up, and the water around the edges need cleaned up. Fishing lines were easily tangles and kids stepped on misc (plants, twigs, logs, etc) in the water. Other than that this will be a great place to camp. Very affordable little get away!

The property is beautiful! Quiet and has the whole place to ourselves. The lake and beach area are very pretty, some things I would note is that the sites are very open and I would bring some overhead awnings! We took our dogs for their first trip and this was an excellent choice!

Perfect overnight traveling site
For my small van-camper, Brightstone site is the perfect basic overnight site while van-traveling:: quiet, clean, and comfortable. It’s a bit off main highways, but worth the few minutes and miles. The mile or so walk around the lake is flat and easy. It met my needs perfectly. Eric was text-responsive, which I appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Hope to have you again!
I had an awesome stay at Roaming Wild Hideaways! The spot is beautiful, creative, and tucked away with lots of privacy. There was a beautiful sunset and a great swing. Would definitely stay again!

Thanks a lot. Hope to have you again!
The spaces are pretty close together for the large land area available. There was only one other group camping in the designated spots while we were there and we ended up right next to each other because the camp host said the other spots were booked... even though the other spots stayed empty the whole time. Would've liked to spread out more.
Several other groups were seemingly camped out around the lake, but there was no indication that was allowed-- I assumed it was neighboring land with neighbors camped. Who knows. Nice lake, and a nice walking trail. Porta potty was clean, but there was not much shade around, so it was pretty hot for July.
I loved Eric’s listing. It was easy to find, set up, and pack out. He was very accommodating and quick to respond. The listing has 5 great sites and is nicely cleared and graveled. The dog loved the ability to walk around the compound and along the small lake that is behind the sites.

Thanks a lot. Hope to have you again!
