Such a nice spot and a wonderful host! We really wish we could’ve stayed longer but had to be on our way. Are hoping to come back out to visit again and would absolutely recommend. The host met us at their property and guided us to the site, provided ample firewood, prepared the fire pit for us, and had ice water ready and more ice available. It was a nice stay for the dogs too!

A serene and very well maintained campsite. Each site has ample privacy, and Jon is personally invested in ensuring each guest’s stay is enjoyable. We arrived to a campsite with a full 5 gallon container of ice water, a box stocked with firewood, a table and chairs, and a fire pit ready to roll. Definitely recommended as you’re centrally located on wine and hiking trails…perfect for a long weekend in Southern Illinois.

Absolutely amazing experience staying at Jon’s Hipcamp site! From the moment we arrived, Jon went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The peace and solitude was amazing. As we slept, not one car passed. We just hear the bard owl and an occasional whippoorwill. It was like being in a bird sanctuary, day and night. The entire area is clean and was pristinely mowed for our stay this weekend. The water Jon brought us was delicious! A big plus for us was its proximity to The Little Grand Canyon- a great hike.

Wow what a special place! Who knew Illinois was so incredibly beautiful? (Probably plenty of folks, but I did not!) The hosts were extremely helpful and kind, making sure I was all set in their beautiful campground. I initially chose this place simply because it felt “on the way” but I will absolutely make a point to come back in the future. Absolutely could not recommend more.

The place is amazing but the hospitality puts the best bed and breakfast to shame. Arrived and greeted by Jon who welcomed us like old friends. Cold water and fire supplies were waiting.
We stayed by the grain gazebo and right by the toilet which was nicer than any other place like this! We had the meadow to ourselves but even if there had been other campers there was plenty of privacy.
Can hardly wait to go back!

Jon's wine trail wilderness was awesome. The gazebo alone was an amazing feature, not to mention the bocce ball court and the awesome outhouse. My wife, our dogs and I were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves during our stay but I honestly don't think having neighbors would've been bad at all. We arrived pretty late in the evening and it was no problem for them at all Carla greeted us and showed us to the site and how to work everything. They already had 5gal of water ready for us and we added in the firewood extra and it was enough to last us 2.5 days, way more wood than a normal bundle you'd get anywhere. They also had a gas grill for campers to use. The location is awesome right on the shawnee wine trail, within walking distance of a couple wineries. Very glad I stumbled upon WTW and will definitely be going back for a future adventure!

Jon runs one of the most well thought out and accommodating hipcamps we have ever stayed at. You will have a relaxing no worries experience staying on his beautiful woodland in southern Illinois! We don't stay anywhere else!

Wow! What a beautiful place to go camping! The hosts were very welcoming and gave us a link to all of the resources we might need, from hiking spots to restaurants and wineries and advice on how to deal with emergencies. The property has several camping sites, but they have plenty of space between them. We would definitely return!

Jon was super responsive and helpful throughout our stay. We ultimately had to cut our trip short due to weather since we were camping with little ones and Jon was very understanding. He offered a few different options to try to help us be able to stay, but was gracious when we determined going home early was the best choice for the kids. The location was perfect, with plenty of room for running around and having fun. Our site was close enough to neighbors to make friends if we wanted, but far enough away we didn’t have to worry about disturbing anyone. Will definitely be back to explore some more!

Jon was great and communicated well. His friend Jodie met us and we followed her to our spot. Jon brought by some good water while we were at the winery and that was a welcomed touch. We walked down the trail and road and to the winery. Enjoyed the Norton amongst the blooming Wisteria. Dogwoods were in bloom. We enjoyed our stay at the Outpost. Only one other couple was there at the Grainzebe and they were great neighbors. We could see them but it was not like a state park where campsites are next to each other. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was. The full moon surprised us and we watched it and the stars while we enjoyed our campfire. Everything was clean and tidy. I could see care to the grounds with paths mown and others areas left to be grown prairie-like. News trees were planted for shade in upcoming years. We felt safe which was important. Firepit, picnic table, trash can, and recycling can were provided. Bathroom was fun and creative. It was by Gainzebo campsite so a short walk to it. We used electric for blankets to keep cozy warm. Oh, and our two small dogs were happy too. It was only a 50 minute drive from our home in Cape Girardeau so made for a great quick overnight out. We are familiar with the area and there are lots of nearby outdoor opportunities to visit.

This is the best Hipcamp I’ve stayed at. They have thought of everything. Our stay was so amazing. There is so much to do in this area and Jon provided us with excellent recommendations. Wine, music, food, peace and quiet, hiking, amazing views, and bright stars shining! We’ll be back ❤️

My husband and I had the best time van camping at Jon and Carla’s place! We’ve stayed at quite a few different Hipcamps, but their space was truly unforgettable! We loved being able to use the Grainzebo to hang out, cook meals, and sit around the fire! It doubled as an extra space to utilize during some rain storms, and kept us dry and comfortable! The sunset views are spectacular too! The location is wonderful, and made for getting around to our favorite spots easy! Though we had the middle camp spot, we felt like we had plenty of privacy! Everything is set up well! All of the extras they provide and think of really set this place apart from others. Attention to detail is amazing! They were so kind and attentive as well! We really enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back in the future for more anniversary trips! Jon and Carla, thank you for making this a wonderful trip for us!

We loved camping at WTW! It is a beautiful camp site with enough privacy for each camper and with every detail that its owners have taken into consideration. Each campsite has its own tables, chairs, fire pit, and wooded area. The owners so kindly have set up waste/recycling baskets and provided us with fresh and delicious water when needed. They have a really cool restroom with an impeccably maintained compostable toilet and a sink to wash hands. Little details with huge impact when you’re camping with young ones and staying more than an overnight. The grainzebo is a cool place to hangout if you’re interested in chatting with other campers and if in need of an electric outlet. The bocci ball court is the ultimate hangout after a meal or a long hiking day! The owners also provide each guest with great resources as far as places to visit. Needless to say, one of the best camps in Hip Camp and a true gem in Southern Illinois. Thank you Jon for all your kindness and hospitality, we hope to come back again!

We had a great time camping (really it was glamping!) at WTW! Our host met us at our arrival with our pre-ordered wine (and even real wine glasses), which was a real treat after a long drive. The campsite had everything we needed and more, and Jon was responsive to every request. He even lent us a local guidebook for Snake Road (a must visit in the area, if you are into those sort of critters). And Jon gave us really good and useful recommendations for local hikes (like which way to take the Little Grand Canyon hiking trail). We loved the "grainzebo" and the property overall and definitely would come back again. The composting toilet/outhouse was really quite nice and way better than any camping toilet we've ever had access to! The bocce court was so fun (and an unexpected surprise!) and the lights around the grainzebo gave us the perfect hang out spot, even in the chilly weather. Loved the area and would recommend WTW to everyone.

Jon and Carla have a beautiful Hipcamp. This is the first time we have gone camping with our toddler girls (ages 3 and 1) and we had a blast! I am so glad we chose WTW. We loved that the campsite locations were spread out from one another, so that our girls could run around, play, and hopefully not disturb anyone with all the laughter and yelling that comes with young children. We stayed at the Dogwood Site for two nights and absolutely loved the location. It’s perfect for our large 10-person tent with plenty of room. Each site has a firepit and a table with chairs. We appreciated the 5 gallons of ice cold water that was provided. There even is a nice outhouse on the property. Just beware if you have T-Mobile you will not have cell phone reception in the area without having to drive into a major town. However, we enjoyed having less cellular distractions as we could focus more on quality family time. Overall, we had a great experience and are looking forward to planning our next trip here!
